Check out the press release that I linked! "ANAHEIM, Calif., March 9, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- After a convention made possible by innovative virtual programming, DesignerCon is thrilled to announce their return to an in-person model in 2021! From November 12th-14th the largest Art and Toy convention in the United States is back at the Anaheim Convention center."
Oh. Do’h! Wow! Well that would certainly be nice. We’ll see where things stand hopefully by August-September. Hopeful but doing my best to stay realistic.
The key to the success of this Dcon is that the virtual Dcon last year was so bad people would rather die than do it again.
Ill go if I can. I care not about my safety. I got ppl every day in my face not caring about covid as I work. So its not going to be anything terrifying thats for sure.
^^^^^^ Yeah, unless Dcon is where your luck ends and you die... I'm sure if Dcon were still being held in Pasadena, this would be a non-starter. But since it's in Anaheim, Orange County, FTW. The promoters don't give two shits. All about the $$
Considering what happened to the "virtual version" and the VIP ticket holders getting screwed and offered a less than acceptable fix for it i,e. "Oh we will rectify by offering additional (insert) deals for VIP." That never really materialized in something satisfactory. Like issuing a partial refund was some sort of blasphemy and not an option they wanted to consider. The least they can do is offer discount pricing for previous VIP holders from last year to this year but will they do that? Doubtful. ...and with our very specific hobby, will the toy companies we follow especially Japan-based be even in attendance? That's what's gonna determine the risk for Nate and I.
Get vaccinated and wear a mask. I'm feeling like November is enough time to get enough people vaccinated that this will be a non-issue. If health is still an issue I'll avoid. My biggest issue with DCON is pretty famous collectors abusing friend's vendor badges to get on the main floor while VIPs wait in line for hours. That is nonsense. This was rampant in 2019 and pretty ridiculous for people who have some of of the biggest modern sofubi collections in the world to be doing this.
Some people appear to make the cheapest shit to sell just so that they can get vendor passes and line up before VIP.
By “famous” I didn’t really mean famous people but rather famous in the sense of having extensive collections that are known.
The only way that would happen is if I trip on some steps and break my neck. Steps are my mortal enemy!
2019 was actually better than most years as vip were given a wristband. Security and vendors were supposed to be kicking people from lines or turning them away. This did not stop people with double badges(vendor and vip). I believe this will be fixed as the price for extra vendor badges was going to jump significantly in 2020, so I'll guess it will be similar moving forward.
Unless you collect poorly done cartoon illustrations or hello kitty butt plugs, wasn't creature bazaar supposed to be the alternative to dcon?
I got one of my favorite toys of all time at the Creature Bazaar "booth" at Dcon. The goofy VHS montage between drops was fun. Really looking forward to what shows up this April.
There is a lot of junk at DCON no doubt. One word of advice if you are going. Do not under any circumstances stay at the surrounding hotels. They are utter garbage and taken over by Disneyland tourists. Absolute filth. Within 15 miles there are resorts, hotels and rentals available for way cheaper. There are enough true makers and great stuff to make the trip worthwhile.
I stayed at the Embassy Suites, about a 10-15 min walk to Dcon, and it was great. Right by Joes Italian Ice and Roscoes so that made it even better. What I wouldn’t give for a number 3 and giant glass of lemonade/fruit punch from Roscoes.
I stayed at that castle looking hotel. It was cheap and nice. I'd rather be less than a mile away so I can take my hoard back to my lair. Have a nap, burrito, poop. Then head back for more goodies.
Last year i went to SDCC i spent 11 am to 1pm in the pool and hotub. Felt like a new man when i returned in the afternoon
In my mind it's never official until I buy my plane ticket. It's done. I'm in for DCON 2021. I'll be there in person, with a table in the Creature Bazaar circus tent. At my boof I'll have releases from Rampage Toys, Grumble Toy, Apos Toys, and maybe something from Minji or Club Babo. I think I'm going to roll under Grass Hut Art Market since GH is starting to have toy/art shows again soon. Oh... I'm also trying to convince Martin Ontiveros to come sit with me for a few hours one of the days. No Sunday, why bother.
