I don't think there is a thread yet for these guys and the first ones in the wild should be showing up soon from CB. Another incredible release! These pics are from the Shirahama IG:
Pretty cool to see. I wonder if Dennis is pulling the inspiration for these from another vintage horror toy (there are a lit of typical similarities). Interesting regardless. It seems like he has already pulled quite a few colours, Dennis is such a machine. Hopefully that means a lot of availability for wider fans. Not sure if it is filtering, but man does it pop in that bone creamy colour with the marvellous sheen!
I know the toy itself is based on a drawing he has for the Shirahama Seikei logo, though I don’t know if the logo itself is inspired by the aforementioned. Dennis is a machine, indeed! It’s always such a treat to releases of his own figures because of how hands on he is with the entire process. Also lovin’ that we once again have a fantastic mascot toy to add to the ranks. The last couple painted run of Kumon he’s done were certainly in greater numbers, so I think he really is wanting to cater to a broader spectrum of fans. A buddy of mine scored one in the recent drop, so I’m very excited to see it in hand!
I think seeing one in person will sell me on it. The size looks very fun but I'm not feeling the overall form yet. No doubt Dennis will pull some wild things with the vinyl bases too--bottle green with gold flake, anyone?
As far as I know just Dennis loves skull and spider combos haha. Yes with the logo mascot there have also been enamel pins, stickers and patches. I'll try to grab some pics of those too. Also if you're buddy isn't feeling it and it's different than what I get, send it right this way haha.
I totally agree that bone one looks nuts and I'm sure even tually these will come in pretty much every flavor. The first release are mixed parts. Only the flesh and sparkle red have been shown but I believe it might be a blind assortment with other colors as well. I guess we'll see when they ship out.
Shiiiiiiit, if he’s not feelin’ it I’m goin’ first dibs! And Dennis definitely is just a huge fan of skulls and spiders. I just meant that this mascot toy was originated out of the initial sketch that did become the stickers, patches and pins. It’s such a great design, though. I can get a generalized size idea from photos, but I’m very curious to actually hold one! Lookin’ forward to a painted version!!!
I love this new toy! The dream for me is that he'll do some kind of crazy marbled lucky bag release like the lucky bag kumons from so many years ago, as that release was before I got into the hobby. And nobody marbles like Dennis!
Kicking myself for not getting one of these guys now. They look fantastic, and the tower is such a great omake. Dennis does it again!
I was hoping we'd see some more posted here. So far I've only seen this one and the red glitter top which is amazing too.
I sadly missed out, but a local buddy of mine came up! So I’ll be borrowing his for some photos to bring here. It’s way bigger than I anticipated, but a great size in hand! Very balanced sculpt. The Japanese on the skull cap is a really cool bird’s eye view detail, too.
Yes it seems way bigger in hand. I'm really hoping we get a lucky bag style Kumon packed in the cavity of one of these someday! Thanks in advance for the pics
I had the privilege of borrowing the new Shirahama Seikei skull mascot from a good friend of mine. First and foremost, this spider skull is a lot bigger than I anticipated. I actually thought it’d be around the same, general size of a standard Kumon. Clearly from the photo, a Kumon can stand inside with ease. Great, great size. It sits wonderfully, and having the skull cap and “body” being the only separating pieces makes for an awesome two - part figure. The skull is anatomically correct and precise, and the spider legs have a slight cartoony feel, but in a good way, that looks like they’re shaved tarantula legs. The legs themselves are solely the only arachnid element of the mascot, but it’s more than enough to give the intended look(didn’t need multiple eyes or fangs or spider butt). Smooth, two - part, two - element visual toy that comes with a smooth, slick, perfect presentation. The tower making a comeback is just a fun omake addition. But the red lamé vinyl for both the tower and the skull cap is insanely vibrant. I can’t wait to eventually see painted versions. Spoiler
Nice! It's designed to fit a kumon in there. Fingers crossed for some sort of lucky bag kumon packed in a spider skull!!
Well, that would certainly be special. Just be that much cooler than the pumpkins with the Halloween glitter Kumon inside. Lucky Skulls.
@xSuicide Squadx Killer photos as always Robert, that Skull Spider it´s amazing but that marbled kumon it´s a winner, I´m in love of that Kumon. Let's hope in the not too distant future to see more versions of that Skull Spider, I'm waiting for a gid marbling.
Beautiful photos Robert. Thank you so much for sharing those here. I think I was in the same camp expecting the skull to be a considerable size down from what it is - a pleasant delight. Though I also would not say no to some smaller versions down the line.
Thank you for the kind words, guys! This was really fun to shoot and handle and look around. It’s such a great mascot!!! Painted versions and Dennis’ signature, untouchable marbles will be insanely awesome to look forward to.
