Originally posted this over on Japan Toys but it was suggested to post here instead: Was wondering if anyone had any further info on this one. 70's vintage that pops up pretty regularly but I can't find any reference to this super robot mecha in anime or tokusatsu of the time. Thinking maybe it's just a custom character (loosely based on Danguard Ace) but what company produced? Manda has it listed as SS Hikari Toys Seisakusho Seigi no Mikata which I'm not familiar with at all. Any further info would be great. Header card shows the red X1 and possibly a blue X2 (has anyone seen one?).
It doesn't have a brand or licensing sticker on the front of the header card, so I am guessing it's a "pachi" design that's not from any particular manga or anime, just an original design meant to evoke the popular super robots of the time.
Yes, Hikari Toy produced maybe 7-8 pachi super robots and tokusatsu hero vinyls, from what I have seen. They are unlicensed designs, many of which bear a passing resemblance to more popular licensed characters. You can see most of them if you Google the company name in Japanese: ヒカリトーイ
I think X-1 is the most interesting out of the bunch. I love that he has a faux missile fire chest and the elaborate details on his torso and head make him look like he should transform or is composed of odd abstract vehicles.
There was an X-2 on mandarake not too long ago. The Hikari toys are pretty common and affordable. Keep looking and you'll find one I'm sure.
