You want to feel true pain? My dad tossed his record collection in the trash because he thought no one uses them anymore. He had everything from the Beatles to 80’s new wave. Many first edition releases. BECAUSE HE THOUGHT NOBODY USES THEM.
Love that attitude man. Especially about sparking the neighbourhood kids to start And the line about the wall of plastic trash that brings me a dopamine hit a few times a week
Marry a hoarder. They'll never pitch your stuff, they'll just "borrow" it. Of course, either way, you'll never see it again.
I know this is a sales thread, but have to quote this for posterity and really I should copy and pin it in the FAQ section [.... not that anyone actually reads any of that....] because this is absolutely the right frame of mind to have for toy collecting. Everyone has their own take, but I could not agree more that, as passionate as we are about these things, they are silly plastic dollies which 99.98% of the general populace would not care about nor do they have any instrinsic value. Buy and collect stuff because it makes you happy, and for no other reason. There should never be any assumption of investment or return, either financially, or, sad as it is the norm now, in some sort of social status/approval. While I hope, if I go, that someone out there might pass on these things, it is not a guarantee, but the best I could hope for is that they end up continuing to be enjoyed by someone, or better still, inspiring a new generation to even just learn what a kaiju is, watch an old tokusatsu show or Godzilla film, and just have fun doing so. And if they get used in play battles, beaten up or end up forgotten in a sandbox, so much the better. Toys should be toys, first and foremost.
What is the reason you would suggest that, Bryce? (genuine question) With all the bs that actually does take place on this board, this seems like an odd one to take a stand on. As far as I can tell, this post was from a person out of the hobby for many years, genuinely looking for help and advice as to how to give back his collection to the community. We all know things change, and people can come and go in this hobby over the years. Real life also happens. If this place isn't for helping each other out, with information and toys, then the entire function of the board seems moot. Happy to take criticism and feedback, but I genuinely don't see what anyone could be complaining about here. Other than maybe having expectations and excitement, which thus far has gone unsatisfied. It would be a different story if toys were sold or promised and never delivered; which we've also seen plenty of. Near as I can tell though, that is not the case.
I suppose for anyone actually interested in buying toys, every post here has been a disappointment, but you gotta keep checking. Just in case. It probably would be best for this thread to be deleted and the seller just post a new one when he's ready. This is like a new Nag thread, full of random crap that has nothing to do with the subject of the thread. I couldn't care less BTW, but I can imagine if you like order and everything in its correct place, this kinda thing could grate!
I guess my read on this post is totally different than, because I am not seeing it as a Sales post. It is a post looking for help/advice with sales. As the Marketplace only has two sub-forums, For Sale and Wanted, I think it could be argued it equally fits - and doesn't fit - into either. I could think about making a third, general sub-forum, but that might just have the effect of confusing matters further. Suffice it to say I interpret [purely personally, everyone has their own take] that when the sales are ready, they will appear in a new 'toy sales' post, if that makes sense? So if @conqueror is okay with that, I (or he) can retitle this discussion to be Help wanted: looking for advice on full collection sale, or something to that effect, if that would appease everyone? As I said, I am genuinely looking for, and welcoming of, feedback and ideas on the forum, we all want to make this place the best it can be. And I am definitely in the camp of very well-defined order (many would say too much so!), for anyone that knows me.
Well, an uninteresting thread takes a turn! Whats next??? Seriously though - there’s nothing for sale here…
It could also very easily be argued it shouldn't be in either. I would suggest most people who see the title 'Looking to sell (most of) my collection' in the 'For sale' sub-forum are going to expect a thread selling toys (with photos and prices.) ... they won't be expecting a thread asking for help/advice on how to sell ... because that's not a sales post.
If this thread should be moved anywhere, it should be moved to Whatever. Because if there ever was a Whatever thread, this is that Whatever thread.
I think this thread would have been fine, if everyone had not felt the need to jump in with their “witty” comments, taunts or other nonsense. At this point, I agree it would probably be better to have this in Whatever, and let him restart on a fresh sales thread.
Agreed. I think, to minimise any further apparent disruption to people, as for whatever reason this is causing, going to curtail/make it clear about the expectations from this discussion. Thread has been migrated to Whatever. Though I don't see this necessarily stopping people from coming in to check/add their two cents. Hope that appeases. Please direct any disgruntled opinions appropriately, and constructively.
When I sell off there’s only one way I’m going out. I’m hiring Steve Agin and his all caps hype man listings.
Mebbe lock the thread because it's getting sour and stale in here. Sour and stale isn't fun. Toys supposed to be fun.
