That is all just to say that, I know there is not much crossover between the people who are into 'popular' [cough] toys like HxS, PH, etc., and vintage/classic kaiju, but I for one really appreciate seeing these connections. People who are only in it to chase the latest thing, or buy themselves a sense of worth by shelling out big for a limited toy won't care, but I like that we can still draw these parallels in Hirota's work.

I think what you are talking about is one of the greatest aspects of this hobby, Steve. The amazing history the classic kaiju characters themselves on the big and small screens, the toys that came after, and all the cross pollination from various sources are perhaps THE most interesting facets of this hobby to me. That's one of the main reasons I keep coming back to this board. I always get really excited when I make connections between recent toy releases and their licensed or pachi predecessors.

The new Kraken is pretty awesome. I am happy with the influence used in sculpting it. Titanosaurus is one my favorite Goji villains. Though chances of me ever winning one seems very slim.

Same here. Titanosaurus is the first thing I thought of when I saw that tail.

    +1

I would love to sit down on the floor with all the Monsters HXS has made
and revert to a 5 year old version of myself. That is the sense and aspect
these dolls plus TE, CKA & several other Japanese makers revive in me.

They are nostalgic and really capture an era that in the USA has been extinct
for several decades. Not to sound negative but rather just to reflect on feelings
growing up in the 1970's when there was so much Monsters related ephemera.

I would dare say I never got into the cycle of violence that saturates the world
we all live in, thanks to my appreciation of Monsters. I feel most fortunate that
I had a Dad who also loved Monsters and spent time explaining them to me.

We are all in this world by chance, these Monsters are no different. I am so
thankful to ALL Monsters fans I have met thru this and other internet venues
for the simple fact that while WE are a minority, Monsters bind us together!

I got the chance to meet HXS at Year 35 and was so thrilled that he was just
what I expected- a Monsters Fan. If the affection of Monsters does not last a
lifetime one needs to reconsider what it is that draws them into their world.

I know how you feel John. And I am sure many here can relate. Meeting Hirota-sensei must have been a real treat and what I consider the real highlight at the event than his toys.

I dunno, I am thinking Reptilicus could have provided some inspiration...and would surely be sympatico with Hirota's b-movie monster influences.

Posters like the one above really have me excited that we might see another poster release to go with these new guys. Very excited to see what is on the horizon!

What was up with the way tickets were handled for this show. Alot of people were pissed they couldn't go, and then guys who did were leaving with 7 HxS figures?

That is so strange, cause the pictures I saw, they were leaving with 8 HxS figures.

Re: Hirota Saigansho: Gorilla-ju, Mecha Gorilla-ju, & Tyrann

I don't think anyone who was there will speak up publicly because they don't want to get blacklisted. But last night I was told (I don't know how many) itamus were sold by silent auction. And one dude won 5 of them.
I'm sure I'll never get into the club after posting this, but I don't care. This leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It seems like people are targeting and taking advantage of one or two rich guys with no limit to their spending. Not just at this event but the crazy pricing on Mandarake as well.

The Pushead event pics are always great, but kind of like throwing salt in a wound. "Oh...another Cococroc I will never own"

The HxS blog has some of the best pics around too. The various photos from Instagram are great to see, but the closeups on the blog really show off how incredible these pieces are from the various artists.

If there's any good news to be gleaned from this, the caption to the post of the new Pushead Sour refers to a Pushead x Medicom release. So hopefully a few of us can get some version of it.

I agree with you Joe. These guys are taking the fun right out of collecting. I don't want any part of it.

I feel like the pus events were secret and invite only before to cater to their hardcore fanbaseand create a mystery but now ur seeing new collectors simply with fat pockets accepted into the fold simply because the greed. Silent auctions are u fucking kidding me?? What a joke. No thanks. How did anyone attend this and watch some dude win 4 itamus and still think it was a cool event?? Shit if i was invited i wouldve have wanted a chance at a figure not be teased with it on display and see the price skyrocket to unattainable levels. BUT At least this was a true "secret" invite only invite and they didnt pretend to make available to the public like last years where they picked and choose which toys they would sell to u even though there was a numbered line... some may say im bitter, maybe i am, but im also not their fanbase so i just angry on principle...

Maybe I'm reading this wrong ...

So Pushead didn't even try to be fair regarding who could attend the show = sent out secret invites to a privileged few & also , by silent auction , allowed the rich guys to win multiple toys instead of limiting one per customer ?

If that's the case , does seem a slap in the face to average collectors + other toy artists , who make every effort to have fair lotteries / sales / etc.

Surprised Hirota would want to be associated with a event run this way ... or is this all Pushead ?

Well said, Josh. I'll stick with my uncool toys, thanks. Maybe I'll score a Mecha-Ju when their "value" drops down the road. And wasn't Hirota at the event?

Yes, from what is being reported thats exactly what happened. But in a way this is nothing new, well maybe the auction part? Pus has always had a secret fanclub/inner circle. Secret buying events in hotels, figures stashed in the back for only the "worthy". Shit theres uncut itamus out there!! so the secrecy is nothing new. The fact thats theres even pics or coverage is of this event is surprising!! Haha

It's not a proper toy release unless someone feels shafted.

The only one from the event who should feel shafted is the guy who spent 25k on robot monkey dolls :D
