The listing didn't seem to specify anything in the description... https://order.mandarake.co.jp/order/det ... 5&ref=list I like this version, as it's finish is very glossy (it's shiny! ), compared to the semi-matte finish of the medicom version
I'm slightly underwhelmed by the DBs; guess I was hoping for wilder colors and more paint. The yellow one looks so flat it might be milky yellow vinyl?
They do seem to me milky, semi-translucent vinyl. It is a cool effect, but does allow for less overall paintwork to be used, so I get that reaction completely. Still very nice toys mind.
Agreed 100% The black stands out more, and it makes it just look messy or incomplete. The paints on the OGs were more subtle / blended. Here, they look slapped on. Like you all said, maybe its the combination with the flat (non-glossy) vinyl. While this was definitely one of my greatest vinyl wants over the years, I would have liked to see these done differently. Still can't pass them up, but hopefully the finished products will be more... special? http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5011/5436185430_6745655a39.jpg
I think we are just seeing Anraku's mock-ups again, and the eyebrows will look more finished on the preorders. At least I hope so.
^^^ Haha. There seems to be a lot of subtle paint on the db's but those eyebrows...wow. I'll wait for other pics but I am excited that these were released.
This was my thinking too, since it seems to be the way of it with these Medicom releases. The eyebrows don't really bother me all that much, but I see what y'all mean. Doubt he'd drift from the original paint styling in these areas, but I guess ya never know.
Have his mock ups been that different from the final result? That would be such a strange way to market the toys- "these eyebrows are HONKIN right now, but wait for the final version they'll be waaaaay subtler."
The eyebrows don't bother me at all. I actually like the dry brushing and they match the hair paint on the back of the head.
So glad to finally see these! I freaked a little too, but again like Michael said, I think its just the mockup. It will look much better coming from the factory. I have to have them both!! Wish the horns were painted on the yellow though.
^^ Pretty sure they are & it's just that you can barely make out the gold paint on yellow in the photo...
Oh man. I am so excited. Also I actually like the way the eyebrows look, especially on the yellow.. his name is drunk boy he can look as wild as he wants!
Finally DB !!!! Love both version and also the much said eyebrows does make it look more fierce looking
"Hiromi Mr. showed me the ability (Dream rocket) is in charge. " is Dream Rocket in charge of the paint jobs? Does anyone know what the linked text says? http://sofvi.tokyo/160624-anrakuansaku/
More dismayed by the vinyl than those eyebrows (they're definitely rough tho) and the seeming lack of paint on the yellow's horns. Wish they'd been painted in same fashion as the claws
As much as I love the color scheme of the red DB there's just been too many shades of red in the Medicom AA releases for me to consider adding him to my collection. I like as much visual variety from each maker on my shelves, so I'll have to go with the yellow, not that I mind him at all. Also I'm really glad I skipped out on the yellow Nue now
Underwhelmed too. Yellow/gold reminds me of the original, down to the vest, which I have. Red, maybe, eyebrows look somewhat better (even if its a mockup) but still bother me. Oh well, I had hoped for a kaiju or vader style paint. Not to be. Bummer.
I prefer the speedo's DB used to wear as opposed to loin cloth look. Red would normally be the more eye catching color but it has too much of the oldschool devil thing going on and the color doesn't bring out the character in the face. Yellow has a bit more character and the DB face I remember.
I think after seeing the back of both Drunk Boys, I definitely prefer the yellow. Looks milky yellow and I've never been a fan of red/turquoise combos, too close to red/green which immediately screams "Christmas colors" to me. Yellow/fuchsia however... Kind of nice! I was really hoping for a more "cool" than "warm" color pallete though. Oh well, beggars can't be choosers! It's still Drunk Boy, and he's cute as hell.
I'm not sure what the technique is called - but the "crayon drawing" style of distressed/rub paint that AA has been using on the pre-order samples seems to be loosely applied on the actual releases. My Nue for example had nice rough crayon details on the arms which came to a point on either end. The final product had simple sprayed lines along the arm - no pointed ends and no rubbed effect. With that in mind, I'm guessing the eyebrows will look quite different on the final release of DB.
I dig he new paint apps... they look like paintings come to life. I'll go for the red if I can, but i'm liking the yellow a lot too.
