Has anyone started watching this? It's a Robert Kirkman show but it's on cinemax so it doesn't have the same restrictions as the walking dead. I caught the first episode and I was actually really drawn in by about the halfway point. It is a little confusing and utterly creepy. I will be tuning in again for the next episode.
Been reading the comic since the beginning and love it. Probably too soon to judge but overall I think the translation to TV looks very successful. The actors playing Kyle and Fr. Anderson look very close to their graphic origins and the show's look and feel clearly quotes the stark look of the comics without overdoing it. I'm very happy about the adaptation happening. Things I love about the comic series so far: Despite the theme of possession, the weight of the Exorcist legacy doesn't really bear upon the series. I like that you can either be religious or atheist or somewhere in between and still thoroughly enjoy the story ... the authors are intentionally not "taking sides" in a way that would alienate anyone. Definitely gonna stick with both the comic and the show.
I'm going to wait on this one. I haven't read the comics yet, but probably will soon... I'm just a little wary and need to wait to see how much this show veers away from the source material. The Walking Dead went way too far out of the way for my tastes, to the point where it became frustrating. I just eventually stopped watching because it was getting too ridiculous.
I think the fact the show was being developed before the comic was even published should mean it can stay true to the source material. Honestly I think a great deal of the problems the walking dead suffers come directly from AMC itself so this show being on cinemax is great. It's already renewed for a second season as well which is cool.
I like it so far. Read both of the trades and it was entertaining. It's amazing to me that we are getting shows like Breaking Bad, Walking Dead, Preacher and Outcast. When I was younger you might have been able to find something like that only on HBO or Showtime.
I want to watch Outcast, but Frontier bought Verizon's interweb and cable operations and it has been a clusterfuck ever since... Their customer service has been outstanding too
I'm enjoying it too but I hope they explain something in the next couple episodes. It's fun and creepy but I am not up for another mysterious unexplained long haul like Lost or The Leftovers. I want to know at least a bit of what's going on.
Kind of interesting while nothing great is on (Mr Robot season 2 soon!!!). Made me wonder about demons. What's it like their first time possessing someone (I mean for the demons first time not the person)? Are they lost and confused? What is time like for them? If they break a body by twisting the spine around do they mend it after or is that person automatically dead once the demon leaves the body? Is there an adult satanic coloring book for christians? What if there aren't any red crayons?
^^^ Mr. Robot has been on my radar but the premise just seems so forced. I understand that it has great reviews but am holding out.
^^^ I don't imagine you'll feel that way when you watch it. It's both hardcore and subtle, worldly and personal, hopeful and tragic. Very smart and fun. Probably my favorite tv show ever. If you liked Utopia and Fight Club it's like a stir fry of the two.
This show really is picking up and turning into something I look forward to watching. Spoiler I like the fact they skirt the religion issue so well. The priest seems to be the most selfish guy in the show at this point and the way the monsters(or whatever they are)co-exist within the hosts is pretty interesting. I was pretty stunned when the fire chief guy was explaining how he liked his wife as the half demon more then he did when she was just his wife!
Almost no chatter about this one since it began... odd. I'll refrain from commentary on specifics, but I've been quite impressed so far and, after the events in Sunday night's installment, can hardly wait for the upcoming finale. Is anybody watching? I want to dish!
Gah! I need to watch a couple I think. Or maybe just last week's. I like it, but I'm not blown away. Hope it ramps up a little bit toward the end here.
Not to oversell it, but it does build - if you're going to check it out, don't skip ahead. Besides, the whole season is barely going to clock 8 hours, so it's not a huge investment of time... even if you hate it!
Yes! I am all caught up and I am totally entertained. The balance of understated drama then out of nowhere violence has me hooked. So many characters to like and hate. The Sheriff is played so well I wish he was my neighbor. And that kid is such an ass I hope he gets what he deserves. I am excited for the finale but sad it's almost over for the season.
Reg E Cathey is a national treasure. He played one of my favorite characters in House of Cards. I wish he could get a leading role in a series. He would do a great intense creepy role like Lance Henriksen in the old Millennium series.
