Lovely sculpt; he bares an uncanny resemblance to the 'maquette' Goji, which is an all-time favourite. Take away those arm wings, and they could be brothers. Phenomenal texture work, I love this guy. I think I would have preferred it to extend all around his torso, rather than the cross-hatch pattern, and it seems a little crude in an unfinished sort of way, in contrast to his other parts, but that is the most minor of complaints. The way it is really harkens back to so many other toys, M1, Toygraph, and the Marmit VP line. Excellent stuff!! As an aside, where are those giant Mothra larvae? I definitely will need one of those in yellow. Talk about an amazing rendition in jumbo size, of a figure I hadn't even considered. Fantastic.
I'm sorry if this has already been covered but was this new Goga version something that has been in the works for a long time? It's pretty interesting.. like the OG Goga is the cartoon version and this is a more realistic take on the character?
From his blog update last Saturday. First mention I saw. Good point @ultrakaiju on the maquette! I love the crosshatch though. I assume we wont see this intensive treatment on a large release, which is kinda a pity.
The Goga proto sculpt never did much for me, but seeing it painted I have a much different perception of it. I love the head, it is sculpted perfectly. And it has sort of a classic dino feel a la Buta dinos. The giant Mothra larvae just look like fun toys. Good stuff all around.
Seeing him painted definitely changed my mind on proto-goga too. The only thing that still bugs me is the abdomen. It just looks like lines carved into the clay like a child might do first learning to sculpt. Ultrakaiju's suggestion of bringing the texture all the way around would have solved the problem perfectly. That being said, I'll get one just to check it out in person.
So the new goga will be part of all the medicom releases that are happening at the moment? Love how damaged and realistic, if it ever could be, the textures feel. Totally see the goji resemblance.
Sooooooooo. I think it looks great. I'm really liking the collab with medicom. The new dino looks cool but I hope the tail really isn't that long. The proto thing's tail is gynormous.
Man that proto- goga looks cool but the colors scheme is not so happening....hopefully they will have better colors.
Looks like they've already sold and many are up on YJA right now, with one up on Mandarake. So, to answer your question, as long as they are around on the secondary market and then sporadically after the first wave has sold, I am guessing? I am kinda curious as to the run size compared to the preorders. With a little patience, luck, and due diligence you should be able to pick one up for close to retail. My humble opinion only (which is not worth much)..... I am very stoked they did this colorway.
Oh wow, yeah, you could buy one right now. Slightly pricier, but there are a bunch available. I'm surprised no one took it upon themselves to hike the price way up.
Wow they're actually not far from retail? That's rad! Maybe I'll try for one in a few weeks and just limit myself to a single drunk boy .. Maybe..
My understanding is that the white (with GID I hope) Gogamejira was a Medicom Toy Plus release only. No 3rd party sellers. The proto Goga (or whatever it's called) looks amazing IMO as is. The yellow larva is sweet too.
I really do like the proto-Goga, but I agree on the belly... The crosshatch pattern almost seems a bit lazy when you compare it to the rest of the sculpt, and the way the paint is laid out makes it looks like he's wearing some kind of body armor/bullet proof vest.
