Found these guys indirectly through MVH hashtags. They're brothers out of Canada getting into the scene after years of being collectors. This is their first toy, "Dungeon Beast". He's as tall as Ollie and as wide as Krawluss, so "beast" is a fairly appropriate title. One of the brothers is in a death metal band called "Tales of The Tomb" and they're even going to release songs for each of their monsters! I've been talking to them and they got a shitload of really awesome ideas to flesh out their toy universe.

A big snooze for me, but this toy isn't made for me. Carry on, gore hounds!

Not my bag but I can appreciate the sculpting! Looks like they did a great job with the toy.

At first it reminds me of Tri Klops from Masters of the Universe.

Its as if McFarlane saw Skull Head Butt and started making sofubi. Not ragging on it.

Difficult to decide if I like a toy based on just odd angled photos and close-ups but from what I see the proportions look pretty neat. Stuff that doesn't instantly remind me of other vinyl figures is usually fun. Hope to see more pictures. Google did not help me.

Hey everyone, thanks for the interest in our first toy!

Just like kid_miracleman was explaining, we're two brothers out of central Canada. We're _king_gloom and _king_doom on Instagram. We're making separate accounts to post individually, so we'll be using the King Hideous account to post about new toys and answer direct questions.

We've lived a life of lurking, collecting robots, monsters and super villains from a young age. We wanted to make toys with nods to punk culture, extreme metal, 80's gross-out splatter films and North American horror. All of this came about through a crazy-ass double idea about wanting to make toys, from a couple of years ago. I (King Doom) have been to Japan a couple of times, and got a massive exposure to sofubi while in Den Den Town in Osaka. Since that first trip and subsequent second, we've started working with a toy producer over there and are moving along through the process. Our first toy, the Dungeon Beast, is in the wax process right now. All we've ever wanted to do was to make toys that our younger selves would have been scared to play with. We both have been lurking on skull brain for a while now and decided to bite the bullet and jump in.

Rich; that made my damn day!

Fusta, that Tri Klops comment gave us a good laugh! Looking at it now, it still makes me snicker.

ToothAction and Michael Beverage; thanks for being honest that this guy isn't up your alley. We totally understand, our design direction isn't going to be for everyone. Stylistically, we figured we'd stay out of the Kaiju and Yokai world. That stuff is being covered by some amazing artists already and we didn't feel that we had much to contribute to it.

IronPaw; hahaha, thanks for the very interesting take on where our stuff is coming from. I had lots of McFarlane stuff when I was younger, I guess on some subconscious level it must have snuck in there ;)

Truslithers; hey, we hope that every new sculpt is better than the last!

Waterbear; we have a very small, little presence online right at the moment. Check us out on instagram. Our page is a bit quiet, we're tuttling away on new things.

So, this guy is the first of our stuff! There's some more stuff creeping down the pipe, hopefully it'll be at the very least interesting. We are looking to include our love of music into the future releases, because hey, noise and monsters are what life is all about. Thanks again everyone!

Not 100% my cup of tea, but that post above makes me support your venture into toy-making. You guys sound humble and genuine about this, which is refreshing... We've always had the occasional person strut into SB and basically hawk their wares at us, and some of them are just downright disrespectful. (Is that some kind of selling point? "Oh, the maker was an asshole to me. I now definitely have to buy their stuff.")
Good luck, and keep us posted. I'm personally intrigued by the fact each monster is getting music. Sounds like a fun mashup of the arts.

Two questions though, are all your monsters from the same universe, and can we get a full-body shot? Kind of hard to get an idea of the toy from just angled photos.

    Hey everyone, King Doom again.

Hellointerloper; thanks for the honest input on the Dungeon Beast. Certainly, we're aiming for a particular feeling and style, which won't always hit the mark for everyone. In the end, we appreciate any sort of input. I'm very glad to hear that you are sensing an honesty in what we are trying to project with our approach. We very much want to respect the community that we're relatively new to, and only want to contribute in a way that will be positive and fun. Our ideology about our approach comes from the local music communities that the two of us grew up in. We come from punk and metal, moving more and more into extreme realms of music as we grow. Even though the medium changes, the mind-set stays the same. We want to take that ethos of community and understanding, and approach this world the same way. The very last thing that we would want to convey is some smug, self-righteous attitude that we're the next hot thing. Again, the parallels to the independent music world come forward; new bands show up with a bad attitude, no one comes to the shows. Rather than hack out a place in a "scene", we'd like to participate in a community. We ourselves are collectors. We've long since collected toys (three boys in the house, we had the gnarliest toy room on the block!), and it's something that has stuck with us. We're excited that now we are working on -making- the toys.

Indeed, our toys will exist in a larger universe, with backgrounds for characters and a story arch. The Dungeon Beast is the first of these characters, and he'll set some ground work. The Dungeon Beast and forthcoming other characters based on the same platform are sort of...err....the badder guys? Really, in our storyline there isn't necessarily a "good guy" and a "bad guy". What seemed more interesting to us was to have two opposing sides, both comprised of monsters. Sort of a "terrible vs horrible" idea. The next toy that we are working on will be from the other side (other team?) and will be very different in nature. The next character is a bit more light-hearted, though still a monster. When the Dungeon Beast is released, he'll have a section of the story pertaining to him included. This is a trend that we will continue as more toys come out.

We can certainly post a full shot. We'll set up to take care of that in the next couple of days, and get it up here. We'll get dimensions by measurement too, to help with visualizing.

Lordmasterprince; thank you for always being so damn kind and decent to us! It means a lot, we aim to do anything but disappoint!

Again, thanks everyone for any sort of interest. We want to be respectful of the community, both on SkullBrain and at large. We're open to any feedback that people may have, as we're always wanting to improve. Constructive critiques, comments, questions, please do let us know. We don't want to become complacent with what we're making. Both King Gloom and I hold that sentiment close, that we can always improve. It's the same as our approach to our other artistic outputs. We can always improve as artists, whether it's our toys, our visual art or our music. I've been committed to playing bass for around 16 years, and I'm always wanting to improve. I've been granted praise in my musical community because of my skills, though that doesn't mean I need become arrogant and ignorant of an ability to grow. We take this same approach to our toys.

Okay, enough babbling, thanks again guys. We'll get those pictures up in the next couple of days!

    - King Doom

Haha, well, no, surprisingly enough. But thank you very much for that laugh, Kevin! I try to limit my sock accounts to badmouthing toys and/or persons, and '+1s'; i.e. nothing nearly productive. :¬

But, while KH might not be in line with my usual thing, I fully endorse this project based on what I have seen and the humility of what seem like a couple of cool dudes. I appreciate people coming here with honesty and a developed story and background in collecting, and particularly since this was brought up by someone else randomly. Seems like it is build on passion and a sold basis of thought and inspiration. Ah Den-Den town, you've sucked away many an hour of my life (and not a mere few Yen), and I regret none of it. ^_^ Wish you guys good luck on your endeavor, and I hope to hear more. Stop by the intro thread and let us know a bit of your own story/collection if you like. Always nice to see some Canucks on here, especially unusually from the flatlands.

    Bryn here;

Okay guys, here we go! Colm and I snapped up some pictures earlier today. Please keep in mind that:

A.) we are by no means good photographers. This was a set-up done balancing three lights on the dinner table, and fumbling with the camera. Damn our Canadian caveman hands!
B.) this is a resin copy and as such has some issues. There are some bubble marks and the joints don't 100% line-up. As we were drilling the arms, the peg's didn't line up correctly (we rushed, it was exciting to get a painted copy up and standing!). You'll see spaces between the shoulders, stuff like that. The final vinyl toy of course will not have such issues, it's just this resin version.

So, there you go. We didn't want to take a crappy phone picture, we tried to do a bit of finessing. All in all, these are still fairly raw. Please, enjoy!

EDIT; Okay, figured out the issue. We're foolish and don't internet as well as we should, considering the generation we belong to. Here you go!

I am digging the overall look and shape. Has a Silent Hill vibe while still looking enough like a toy to be fun.

Hope to see some outlandish colors in the future.

I have to agree, it DOES remind me a bit of Silent Hill! Color me intrigued!
My favorite part has to be how the hand and axe are fused together as one. Something very creepy about a flesh and bone hand axe that literally is a hand.

The head got a lot more interesting with all those shots! It looks like depending on which side you're focusing on he has a BIG shit-eating grin.

My only recommendation would be on the paint job. The white border around the shoulders and chest is fine, but then it just sort of ends when it turns into an upside down cross with hard edges. It looks less natural, but aside from that I LOVE it. I love the eyes randomly placed all over him as well. Might be a good idea to have them in different states of open vs. closed, though. I think it would make him look more alive.

And I like how as I see more toys with dicks you guys just chopped his off. Maybe he'll come with severed dick omake?!??!?!:lol::lol:

    Bryn here;

Hey guys, thanks so much for the kind responses and constructive criticisms!

Waterbear and Hellointerloper; hahaha, definitely, Silent Hill characters played a part in some of the character design. Other things that played into the design were ideas like monoliths, 80's serial killers who don't have a lot of facial expression (Jason Vorhees, Michael Myers), Golems (the Yiddish folk creature, not from LOTR!), stuff like that. We wanted the Dungeon Beast to appear heavy. We wanted him to appear indomitable, very much a lumbering force rather than a rapacious predator. That's why his proportions are thick, give him that "bigness". Haha, thanks Hellointerloper, we're happy to hear you dig his creepy axe hand! The next monster based on this body platform will carry that idea for the most part. Waterbear, for sure we'll be doing some big and bright colourways in the future!

Kid_miracleman; thanks so much dude! The grin ended up being unintentional, though we feel it makes him a big cheeky and maybe more fun looking. Afterall, these are toys! This paint colourway was meant to a little more "designed", maybe even a bit ornamental? The upside cross has to do with -how- this guy comes into the human world with our story. That's also why his colours are so dark, we wanted to make him corpse-like, though like a corpse being used in some straight-up black magic hoodoo! Hahaha, the sewed up dick area wasn't to slight any makers that are putting dicks on their toys, we just thought "hey, let's make this guy that much grosser", so we chopped his off! That was Colm's idea, it was a good one!

    Thanks everyone!

For a debut release, this thing is wrecking-ball huge. The details are crazy cool! That axe hand, though....that's brutal. Can't wait to see what else you have in store! Just makes me eager to reveal more on my own debut release! Keep it up!

I think with the right colors, this guy could take a marbling insanely well. Like some of the marbles I've seen from Autopsy Baby.
