    love it!
Everything from the 80s King'esque logo to the heavy synth mood sound track.
    Great show. Recommend.

man i can't wait to finally sit down and watch the first few episodes of this tonight.. I was sold after seeing the first preview! I love this aesthetic - I'm sure there will be hair-raising goosebumps during some scenes in this miniseries :)

Posted my thoughts so far in a couple different threads.

    After two episodes:
Started watching Stranger Things on Netflix, and 2 episodes in it's pretty decent. A tad better than most stuff on SyFy or Fox (or FX or whatever the hell it's called) but it's not earth-shatteringly good. Ryder is annoying, but the kids all perform admirably (although one's performance is pretty forced). And it definitely has the "if Speilberg directed King," vibe that's been tossed around. Hell, the first scene is a pretty hard riff on ET. Didn't even recognize Matthew Modine till half-way through the 2nd EP. A few things I dig are the score and the credits. And they do nail the look and feel of the '80s pretty dang well.

    After four episodes:
Watched four episodes of Stranger Things yesterday, and it's okay, but seems almost like something a kid would write after seeing ET, Firestarter, Poltergiest and any other number of Spielberg and Stephen King movies. And hasn't this stuff with electricity as the conduit for the creature been done to death? I'll finish it, but so far I'm underwhelmed.

Hopefully my opinion doesn't keep going down after additional episodes. Also, I wish Bear from Fargo season 2 was in it longer. :(

Every time Ryder enters a scene as 'hysterical mom' for the millionth time I want to shoot myself in the face. So annoying, it's like listening to babies crying while having your fingernails simultaneously ripped off. It's mainly because of her and the whole little girl with superpowers that I've tuned right out.

Well, this is a little disconcerting, considering she was the primary reason I wanted to check this out.

Anybody know if there are plans to release the great soundtrack to this show? I had a quick look in Google and couldn't find much information.. Maybe someone has heard something.

I'm loving the synth score. It sounds a lot like something from a recent movie, but I can't think of which one? It Follows isn't it I don't think. Anyone know?

And I think if anyone was planning on checking it out, they definitely should. It's a fun little diversion if nothing else.

I think maybe Mr Robot has had similar pieces during some scenes.. Could be the same guy working on both soundtracks?

I've never watched Mr. Robot. It's a movie I'm thinking of. It'll come to me eventually.

The music reminds me of the Tron remake.

Disasterpeace did the music for It Follows. The music in Stranger Things doesn't really sound like his stuff.

I may give this one a shot after I finish ESPN's incredible 7.5 hr "OJ: Made in America" doc series (I'm about halfway through... strongly recommend). I've read some pretty mixed reviews, but four of my favorite creature fx people worked on the show. If nothing else, if the series doesn't grab me otherwise, I want to see their work... I may just skip around and look for the monsters!

I've found an IGN article and a Bustle article that credits Michael Stein and Kyle Dixon as the composers of the opening theme, though neither said anything beyond that and I was having trouble finding anything else about them beyond that when I stumbled on a brief reddit thread that says they have a synth band called Survive, and links to their bandcamp page. Both these dudes have IMDB pages which list Stranger Things (and nothing else, so apparently this is their first professional gig!) and both link to the same BC page, so it's definitely them. And it sounds like some good stuff so far, if you like the show's soundtrack, you're bound to like at least some of this stuff. (I've been accused of "dumb Googling" elsewhere on the board recently, I hope that isn't the case here ;))

As far as the show itself, I've only watched the first ep so far and it's decent, but there's so many magnificent shows out there that "decent" doesn't usually cut it for me, but at this point I want to see where it goes (I know that's exactly how they get you with these kinds of shows) so I'm going to hang in there a bit longer.

The music is ace for this ... couple of similar soundtracks are turbokid by Le Matos and the guest by Steve Moore

This is the first thing I thought of too. Sounds just like daft punks theme from Tron

Don't mention it! If you guys hadn't raised the question, I probably wouldn't have been pressed to find out more. Let us know what you think of the Survive project.
    @scobot
Haven't seen The Guest, but yeah, same kind of esthetic as the Turbo Kid soundtrack. Turbo Kid was so awesome. I don't usually rewatch stuff, but I may need to see that one again at some point.

Might be The Guest that it made me think of. I just watched that a couple weeks ago. It's just that little motif in particular that sounds familiar, they pretty much play it at the end of each scene.

I thought the journey was a lot of fun, even if the destination was a little meh. After the first couple of episodes Winona didn't even bother me. Really enjoyed the kids, and the whole D&D campaign parallel was fun. Made me wonder if D&D put any funding into this because it sure made me want to play!

Also thought the overall packaging of the show was terrific. The soundtrack/theme reminds of a lot of current movies that are throwing back to the 80s. The Guest and Drive are two that I immediately thought of. I thought like it could have been done by Johnny Jewel of Italians Do It Better/Glass Candy.

I'm digging it after 3 episodes. I see it as The Goonies X Fire Starter X Poltergeist. So I thought that was kind of awesome reading that you feel almost the same Letter Prsd

Thanks for bringing this up. I did not know about it. Anything with jr high school age adventures makes me happy. DnD! It's kind of a supernatural sci-fi Freaks and Geeks, imo, so far.

I should post a review I read last night. Mentions all the King and Spielberg stuff that's been mentioned here, and a few others. I'll probably finish the series today and chime in with final thoughts.
And I think the score that I have in my mind that this is similar too, might actually be from another show I watched recently. Good Lord if I'll be able to remember it, but now this is starting to drive me a little nuts.

EDIT: It's getting pretty dang good, on episode 5 and just had to note the usage of Elegia by New Order. If that doesn't make you think EIGHTIES, I don't know what will.

Maybe you are thinking of Drive or Ex Machina?

At least whoever is doing the soundtrack is using good songs by New Order, Joy Division, and Echo & The Bunnymen.
