Wow! What a toy. There are so many of these trikes that I've never seen before. Does anyone know of a good reference that has a list of a lot of them? I saw the tricycles thread here that B Flynn started in 09, but the pics have been taken down.

I am surprised at the end price for the Osato Eleking too. Considering most are pretty affordable, and the cheaper versions of these finger puppets are, well, cheap, that is really quite high for one of the rarer ones. But if you need to complete the collection. It would sure be great to see them all lined up beside one another.

Also surprised by the Eleking. Garamon is the really rare one from that series, and the only one I am missing, not counting paint variations.

    Any thoughts on this:

Ended at 50,000 Yen. Looks to be on a flesh base. Not sure about that rectangular hole on the neck. Air bubble? The blue looks like repaint. Seller could not say for sure if it was a repaint.

I also saw this Red King, the seller said he bought it many years ago in a Hong Kong market. But the pattern of painting is different than the Hawaiian and as you say, seems to have been repainted.
It seems to me that the base of vinyl is yellow ... but who knows, the pictures are somewhat poor.

I don't know anything about that Red Kind, so if it is something special, would be interesting to hear. But for me, personally, that is a hefty price/gamble on him. The paint looks far too garish and heavily applied to be production to my eyes, and it is a bit of a different take. Certainly looks like a vintage figure, but there is almost no way to tell for certain the base vinyl colour without seeing it in person/having more pics. Almost looks like someone did this up in a Hawaiian scheme from memory or something, to have that great toy which they probably couldn't find. Interesting variant, but not one I think I would drop all that money on without more details.

Lmao! I also rushed home from school when I was a wee lad to watch Kimba, Marine Boy, then Speed Racer all in a row. Weekends it was Ultraman,Space Giants, and Toho movies. Later on when I was older it was Star Blazers. No wonder I'm addicted to Japanese toys, exposure has gone on for a long time!

I had written a while back about my "deal" to pass up any Zone Fighter talker that appeared on any YJ Auctions after scoring the giant-sized Zone nodder, the grail of grails, back in 2009. One came up just two months later, one last-minute bidder, $500. The whole fish in the bucket thingie. This was hard to forget, but it's seven years hence, wow . . . Well, after some digging I found the photos I saved for bitter reference. Yep, it was as minty as I remembered . . .

Hi Paul, this is the other colorway you mentioned before?
I also saw the B-CLUB reproduction pink and silver, it looks nice.

@Alebrije I think that one is actually the same version, just with possibly a but darker spray, as it looks like it's the red (or maroon) vinyl. I haven't seen the rarer Magular colorway in awhile, but if I see one, I'll post here. Not a bad price at all on that one you posted. I'd love to pick one of these up sometime.

The more I think about this theme song and the renaming of the show for the US market, the more racist I'm thinking it is. Who lives down in deep dark Africa, who's the one who does good and right? Kimba THE WHITE Lion is the ONE? WTF? My childhood is ruined lol.

Michael long time no hear! Good to see you posting. Yeah that Zone Fighter talker is a beautiful toy! I long for even a standard sized removable helmet version at a fair price but it never seems like that will happen. $500 for this talker back then? I'd say that would be a steal these days!

Yeah, that Zone Fighter is such a real beauty. I think a lot of us have [probably a few] of those deep vintage regrets that we justified one way or the other at the time, but never really forgot or got over, nor do we forgive the error in hindsight. Glad you managed to save the photos from the auction, even if it probably pains you to go back and see them. Thanks for sharing them here, and the tale of this one that got away.

@Alebrije Well, I just consulted The Beautiful book of Monsters and I was totally wrong about the color way of the rarer version. The rarer one is on bright red vinyl (as opposed to the maroon or reddish brown of the regular version) and has blue and silver sprays. I do still like the regular version better, personally. I guess I was just thinking of the Butanohana version of this character that is navy vinyl with black spray. Not the first time I've been wrong and won't be the last!

Edit: found pics of the 2 vintage variations and the 2 modern ones here:

I think this one of the best things about the forum; It is that we always learn something new or there is always someone who knows more about a subject and can help us with our doubts.

^^^beautiful Magular. Was that the one with the slight crack at the back of the head, or was that another auction I'm getting confused with?

Chris, believe me, there were so many shows that aired back in the day, that would never have aired today! I was just talking to someone about all of the old shows (Adam's Family, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Lost in Space, Bewitched, I Dream of Jeanie), and he said you can catch a lot of them on syndication now, except for some, like McHale's Navy, he pointed out there were so many politically incorrect things and references to be rerun today....

Hey, thanks guys, I was being a little flip. But I do like the sentiment and appreciate the camaraderie you guys keep alive; thank you for "mourning" with me! These toys have cast more than one gloomy spell on me and my humble wallet. Sure, it's terrible to willingly lose out on a $500 Zone Fighter talker, but let's reflect on the upside - I got the 10-year grail (that's ten winters!) that's sitting right here. Indeed, the Masudaya Zone Fighter sculpt is about as good as it gets. However, for me, the Nakajima Giant Zone Fighter sculpt IS as good as it gets. I am a complete sucker for the Nakajima nodders, they are why I got into this. And the Giant Sized Zone is my ultimate. As I am thinking about it, Chris, while I believe the mask/head is a fixed sculpt, B-Club reissued the standard size Bandai Zone Fighter a few years back. Those come up occasionally for 80-100 clams. I will guess that you already knew this, but I rarely get to post/talk about this stuff so I like being complete. I don't think the vintage removable mask is impossible to find, either, unless this stuff just completely dried up. It is something to hunt for!
Quick thank you to you guys, particularly Chris, ultrakaiju and Alebrije, for keeping the discussion and the excitement going. I also have to thank Paul Kaiju for just keeping the beautifully-warped inspiration flowing and sharing the passion; you are killing it, man! [IMG]

Amazing Michael! I was hoping you would be inspired to post some shots of that guy. Well, no question among this crowd I am pretty sure it is safe to say - the giant nodder is indeed the grail of the lot. A real stunner; the size is of course superb, but for me it is the expression on his mask on this one, and the star 'twinkle' in his eyes, that really makes it just on a whole other level. Really a wonderful toy, and if I had to give up a shot at the Masudaya, for anything else this would be it. So much belated congratulations on that guy. He is wonderful, and a real cornerstone in any collection. The standard size removable mask has gotten harder to find in recent years, strangely enough, but a lot of the masked vintage toys are heading into more permanent collections it would seem. The B-Club repro is actually very well done, even if you can't unmask him, and makes an excellent placeholder (or even just an addition) to the vintage fellas I think.
