^right. And iirc the prices only got higher and higher for retail..:?

Haven't they always been priced as such? As far back as i can remember i saw a price aroud $100+ and have never had any interest in these since. PK painting on them just recently has absolutely no effect on original pricing..

If this is how the entire scene is going, it should be burned to the fucking ground.

You know I've been following this Mimi for a bit and I can't say yay or nay about it. I know some collectors love it and some who hate it. Personally I don't like to judge until I can see it in person. The size is a huge part of the throw off of the price. To be honest from a far I like the little guy. Tons of texture from all angles, however I'm way more drawn to blanks at this point. The paint apps I've seen on these guys are not that appealing (not all the paint apps ) but what I'm getting at is the eye. Its a huge part of what brings this character to life. The way the eye specificly gets painted Is what give this guy his character and I have not seen such great execution on them (my opinion) Paul's has been the best so far. I'm not an expert on painting and I'm sure it's extremely hard to get eyes right in general but I think with time We will see some better versions. The price point is a bit high but along with every new monster comming out and the ever growing popularity of the hobby, it's to be expected. Good luck to any going for the violence toy versions. I think however I'll sit this one out.

I won a Halloween Pigman Monday. Ill post some shots of it once i get it in the mail. This is my first piece from the artist in general. I wasn't a fan of the original Mimi Monster but the new Mad Mimi Monster the with face sculpt is badass.

Most of his stuff seems to sell out relatively fast. His pieces from Creepshow UK sold out lightning fast.

I won the Halloween MIMI lottery with the new head sculpt, it will be my first Tan piece.

I noticed the Mimi with hair from the creepshow event was like $200 more than no hair, thought that was pretty drastic.

Yep it was the same with the Pigman to. Not sure why unless the hair super hard to put in?

Maybe I should have re-phrased that or posted it in purple...

Did you read it as "No, hair is that hard to inject"? Because if you did, you may have the wrong idea... I was joking, saying that even if there was a heavy pour of vinyl and the wall thickness was half an inch thick, no amount of hair - one strand or a thousand strands would be worth charging an extra $200 for.

Charging $200 extra for a chase version with hair is taking advantage of clueless cashed-up collectors. Hair is not that hard to inject.

Man, I cannot justify paying that much for a toy that I kinda like... The price jump is just insane to me.

Hair plugging is a total pain. If you're not having a doll hair factory do it for you, it's a very timely tedious process. You basically have to punch each hole one at a time, take your hair plug tool, insert the hair through the needle, plug it in and do that 2 times to get enough hair in each hole. Loose strands fall over the place, and you are spending time trying to get the strands even before the plug, so you don't have a bunch of extremely long or short strands. The few times I've done 1-offs with hair, I've never done a full head of hair, just some sparse clumps. but even doing that seems to take at least half an hour. I could see doing a full head like that taking a good hour-2. I'm not weighing in on the price or his own value of his time. I'm just saying it can be a timely process.

Yeah i misread that. Simple mistake.

I agree that charging 200 extra plus is insane for a version with hair.

I have the Pigpigman from previous lottery and I think that is fair price for him, he is a good sculpt, has great paint and is pretty limited. However the ones at Creepshow.. I do not think Tan priced them that way as his lotto one-offs are same priced. Could be organisers etc? The price is ridiculous.

Personally, I think $280 for PigPigMan is pretty hefty, considering more established and (in my opinion)more well painted toys are half the cost. Don't get me wrong, there's collectors that obviously feel the price is worth it, and I'm not judging that at all. But for me, I can think of at least a dozen bigger/same size, more intricate sculpted/painted toys that are equal to or far less costly than this guy. Hell, runs of this dude are the cost of one off toys that are equal in size. But he's clearly got a market, much like all heavily coveted makers do, and it's awesome it's workin' out for him!

But again, it's all subjective, and I'm just one nerd's opinion.

i think mimi monsters should be in the $80 range for a run. funky little toys but some of these prices are crazy! paying $500 for a one off dualbat by pk imo is suitable for the size and the years of expertise behind the sculpt and any paint application by him. there are alot of novice makers demanding the same amount of respect and money as those who've been in it for years

I'm not a huge fan of the mimi monster to be honest. I agree about the paint jobs being part of it but think it just is clunkily sculpted, and maybe that's why the paint just doesn't look great most of the time. Idk, the drips, the eye, it's okay. I could take it or leave it on my shelf I guess, and for the price it's a leave it unfortunately.

I'm actually wondering if anyone will chime in about Unoblab... something obviously went down over night. The Chinese collectors are all reposting the same image. Unoblab to me, even though they look like they are trying to be a secretive nameless company... put the sculpt next to pig pig man and mimi and you can tell there is a connection.... if that's not enough put the paint apps of those said
Sculpts next to each other and there is a connection. Something is going down in that little world based on IG, they have the balls to half weight call someone out publicly. Kind of high school honestly. If you're going to call someone out publicly then say it with your chest. Don't halfway call someone out. Also I too am not digging the pricing on any of these 3 sculpts. Self hyping your toy to a "nag" status is not okay with me. I hear the quality isn't even all that great if you compare it to a true sofubi pull. Which makes the price tag even more confusing. I did enjoy the mini sculpt. I was trying to even acquire a blank for the collection, when I was told $175 for a blank I passed. It's your product so you can do what you want. Releasing in low numbers with high retail price, you will woo over some collectors that chase it for the "rarity and exclusiveness" That doesn't mean the time, work, effort, dedication is even close to up to par with PK, MVH, Blobpus, etc... who have been doing this for some time, and still manage to keep prices at a highly reasonable rate for the craftsmanship you get with their product. Blank Mimi for $175, blank Sam Heinous DX for $145... hmmm. I know what gets my vote if I had to choose from the two.

The stories I heard from multiple people yesterday are pretty screwed up.. it's one thing to overcharge for a toy and take advantage of false hype.. but to hold back toys that people have paid a crazy amount of money for to sabotage somebody else's business is pretty screwed up.

I guess I'm not involved first-hand so I don't want to outright be specific and I don't want to give away who told me what I've heard.. maybe there's two sides to the story (although I doubt it). Could even be some guerilla marketing bullshit to get people talking about the brand? I'm only thinking that because the shared image contains clearly displayed email/paypal info for Telebobo.. kind of weird. But there's a sofubi exhibit/convention thing happening in Hong Kong next weekend so maybe more news will come out of that if everybody over there is in the one room.. It's called FUCKAIJU or something like that.
