Who cares as long as its good right? There is some American hybrid Manga that can be considered equally as good to.

Again im not a purist when it comes to stuff like this or sofubi in general as long as it gives me something interesting.

Besides we wouldn't get hilarious shit like South Park tackling Yaoi manga. X'D

^^ Yeah, you gotta give them credit. They've published a great deal of
more obscure & interesting Manga over the years.

I've been aware of, and read, some of the online Kitaro 'scanlations' over the
years but there is something about actual paper that is much more satisfying.
You cant beat holding an actual book in your hand and turning the pages . . . .
call me old-fashioned, i dont care. I have an actual Shigeru Mizuki book in
my hands and it feels good.

It was so much fun reading about Kitaro's origins, in English, in a nicely
produced paperback. The translation is tip-top and there is a history as
an introduction, with descriptions and info on all the Yokai that appear
in the stories. There are also a few pages of games, for example there
is a maze entitled 'Help Kitaro save Yumekuchi from the nasty Makura Gaeshi'.

These are the stories in the volume:

    The Birth of Kitaro
    Nezumi Otoko Vs Neko Musume
    Nopperabo
    Gyuki
    Yokai of the Mountain Pass
    Makura Gaeshi
    Hideri Gami

It would be really cool if enough people bought Kitaro in English,
D&Q could keep publishing them for a complete set of the Manga.

I have been yearning for more Kitaro since finishing the first D&Q edition a while back. Even considered buying Japanese volumes just to look at the art, so the continued publication comes as excellent news.

I just added volume two to my amazon list, and noticed they mention there will be seven volumes !

    Rejoice :D !!!!

    Rejoice indeed :D

I really hope so, but I won't count on it just yet. Its all about numbers, innit. I've been promised runs by publishers many times in the past and they cancel that shit if it ain't selling.

A good example is The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec . . . early stories - then Fantagraphics pull the plug. Same for NBM years ago.

Bambi and her Pink Gun (so cool), DMP scrapped it after two books. The Legend of Sister Sarah was a fraction of the way into its arc when it was scrapped . . . the list goes on

Anyway, I just hope enough people buy Kitaro in English to make it worth their while to keep translating and publishing books . . . :)

Kitaro is so much fun and yet it doesn't pull the same numbers a lot of the less traditionally Inspired manga do. I enjoy learning about Japanese folklore with this series (what little I've been able to piece in this dull head of mine) and just crave the stories.

I was reading edowaga rampo a few months ago and couldn't help finding the story telling quite similar to the earlier Kitaro stuff I've read. greatly recommended.

I have some various pieces. Some in complete Japanese which i cant even understand but its cool looking at the art work. Actually i have allot of incomplete collections i should really buy the rest of the books for.

The first one is a Hentai Manga in the form of American Comic book style!
I really like the 80s feel to the cover of this one.

And i do have the complete collection of FLCL but im surprised its only 2 damn books. Its a great two books don't get me wrong but i feel the Anime did the surrealism much much better.

MAR, which i REALLY need to finish getting the rest of the books lol. Cause its pretty damn good. Lots of funny moments but its really neat and creative with how it does things plus the talking weapon.

This is an American manga full color. Its pretty much like steam punk with 17/18TH century stylized clothing, air ship warfare, a giant race of insects that want to enslave humans and it has some Japanese influence sprinkled throughout the entire comic as well.

Priest is quite an awesome series with wild west elements, demons and undead.

I think Bride Of The Demon is mainly a series for women but it has horror elements it seems? Im not 100% sure anyways. Its got some really nice art work in it.

I personally think Tekkonkinkreet is an idiosyncratic little gem. The feature-length anime is really good, too.

Priest was a great title. The mix of western, biblical and demonic stories really work well. The art was kinetic too with heavy line weights and great angles.
Did it ever finish though? I have the first 12 volumes. I think it went to 14 before Tokyopop closed shop.

    Obviously ignore the movie.

I'm always a fan of Junji Ito. Viz Media released two excellent hardcovers for Gyo and Uzumaki. Beautiful books. I hope they do more. Either any compilation of short stories or Black Paradox would be awesome!!!

Im not sure to be honest. I REALLY need to get to buying the rest of the books which i will probably do once i get my check on the 24th. I would love to see an anime based off of this to!

Appleseed is another favorite of mine. Lots of mecha and its just drawn with so much intricate detail!

And i like that the books from this series are much much bigger so i don't feel like im tearing the damn thing trying to open it up and look at the pictures.

Okay. 20th Century Boys is amazing. After the first book, I was a little underwhelmed but got hooked after that. It's a classic. So many different timelines and characters and it's just incredibly well crafted.

I was anti for a long time. The title seemed lame. The first book meh. But after book 2 and 3 I was hooked. I went on a binge today and finished 16-22. (eagerly awaiting the final two.)

Yeah, Appleseed is a classic. Right up there with Ghost in the Shell, for me.

I've been curious about '20th Century Boys' ever since i read 'Pluto'. I recently found books 3 to 8 in a charity shop.
As soon as i grab the first two i can see if the series lives up to the hype. I think 8 books will be more than enough
to decide whether its worth carrying on with . . . .

I also found books 1,2 & 4 of 'Attack on Titan' and i read the first one. Have to say i really liked it. It was better
than i was expecting . . . . has anyone read all of them? What did you think of the whole series?

Thats the only problem with these long running series - a lot of dough needed to buy them all. I'm still stuck in
'real book' mode and i cant really enjoy online editions . . . i need a real book in my hands.

I was VERY hesitant with 20th century boys. I loved Pluto but 20th century works on so many levels.

Two recent books i've bought and looking forward to reading. I've been flicking through
Die Wergelder and it looks really good.

    Wolfsmund Vol.7

    Die Wergelder Vol.1
    [IMG]

    Die Wergelder Vol.1
A mysterious murder takes place in a shopping arcade in China, while in Japan a yakuza gang discovers a large amount of money is missing. These volatile ingredients will combine to set off an explosion of violence on a remote island, which will eventually grow to consume more and more lives across the world! Fans of the classic kung-fu and exploitation films of the '70s will find plenty of kick-ass action to love in Die Wergelder.

Wow! I did not know about this. That's incredible and probably friggin' heavy!

Speaking of hardcovers, I ordered the collected edition of Tomie by Junji Ito. It'll go nicely with the Uzumaki and Gyo releases. Fingers crossed for Black Paradox next. (I'm sure I've said this before.)

This looks cool, but i'm not sure if its worth me spending $200 on it. I already have the 6 paperbacks including the older colourised
version of the first book as well as the hardback of the Akira-Club book (which is awesome).

That means i would be spending $200 just to have the books in hardback with un-flipped pages and Japanese sound effects etc.
Obviously that would be an improvement, but maybe not one i could easily afford . . .

They are described as large-format. Do you know if this is larger than the Dark Horse volumes?

It doesn't say how large and yes 200 is hefty for a series I own already. All the info seems to have been from last April and no updates. It just says 2017 release.

Didn't know about Tomie by Junji Ito. I'll have to check that out today.

I don't have the Akira series so this is tempting, but there's no real current info to go by. Even Amazon doesn't have a pre-order yet. (Although there is a spanish box set listed from 2013 with the same pic shown above.)

Has anyone read Biomega by Tsutomu Nihei? I grabbed the first book but haven't started yet. Blame! and Knights of Sidonia were both enjoyable. I'm sure I'll like this too.

Yes, i own the series and i liked it a lot. The artwork is consistently great and i remember the story did not disappoint me.
Its a nice, gritty and dark manga. There is lots of weirdness and its quite action packed and fast moving . . .
