How heartbreaking is that -- I literally don't know what I would do if I left for vacation and my dog immediately died. Unthinkable.

As some of you are aware, if you follow me on Instagram*, I abruptly quit my job yesterday. This coming summer would have marked my decade of working there but I couldn't go another day. For the last several years, I have been the only graphic designer on staff, basically the sole person overseeing the entire art department. I had a lot of daily responsibilities including working on every custom design order that we received (some days juggling up to four or five different clients' designs, anything from a business card to a logo design to a trifold brochure, and everything in between), while also simultaneously handling prepress (checking print orders for quality before they go to print). In theory, it's not so bad, and I stayed busy for the most part. Being tasked to create a nice design for someone is a challenge that I genuinely enjoy -- I like to make people happy and when a client loved my work, it made my day. That is, until the next annoyance came along. Because my workload fluctuated, I had downtime now and again, and I did work from home for the last ten months or so, but those perks just aren't worth it to me anymore. I won't air too many of my specific grievances here publicly but suffice to say, I was overworked. I was also underpaid but management and the owner justify that by saying it's 'the nature of the business' which translates roughly to 'hard-working employees that have been with you for nearly a decade are not to be appreciated.' And I never really did feel appreciated. None of us got any sort of holiday bonus this past year. The owner is someone I would never even consider associating with outside of work. Some design clients drove me to feel homicidal. Other staff members made mistakes often, including the general manager, while I had to be the responsible one and point them out. I was overly frustrated and overly stressed out on an almost daily basis, and that poison seeped into my personal life bigtime. I am incredibly relieved to be out of this situation. If you feel like you are in a similar situation, please consider doing what is best for you, as a human.

Fuck me for my toy addiction. I am always waiting on some shipment and always hunting for more to add. I drive myself nuts with it. Yet it brings me such joy.

 

I totally understand the feeling. I am absolutely addicted to the thrill of having something arrive in the mail, opening the box, photographing the toy, putting it on the shelf, being excited about the new addition to the collection... I had to stop buying though with the new year. I just can't keep buying when I currently don't have any real income. Just going to live it up through other people's photos and joy until I can get shit sorted out.

F U to people that think this board is all haters and snobs. its so easy to just chill and chat about toys but theres people out there that need to make everything an issue. i showed interest in a single toy and had multiple people reach out to me showing me where to get stuff and others guiding me to the more rare stuff of the same company. not an ounce of hate. i made my fair share of mistakes and will realistically make a couple more, it comes with being dumb. BUT i see no problem with apologizing and fixing it.

no one is being forced to be on this board, dont like it? stick to ig. this place did just fine before us newbies, it can do just fine without us. i see nothin broke so i aint go'n try an fix it.

Fuck this store brand tortilla chip bag. I went to finish off the crumbs and salt at the bottom of the bag, tilted it back and it tore right at the opening so I got chip crumbs all over myself. I'm glad no one can see inside my apartment because everyone would look at me like I'm some kind of chip licking freak....which honestly is totally true.

 

Fuck time-wasters and people without a realistic viewpoint on anything.

An acquaintance of mine contacted me saying that they're secretly working on developing a video game with a group of people, and they are in need of a dedicated person to be their concept artist for monsters/enemies. Of course, I'm excited, and say sure. I'm not amazing, but I can definitely draft up some enemies and monsters for someone else to convert into a 3D model.
They invite me into a group chat, and it seems pretty legit. My acquaintance is the designer for human concept art, her husband is doing armor/weapons and plot writing, and another guy is doing the 3D modelling and programming. Things are looking good.
AAAAND then things start to become pretty apparent that NOBODY KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT WHAT THEY'RE FUCKING DOING.
The 3D guy? He's made a turret and a cup in a 3D program before. That's it. He has NEVER made anything else. Never made a character model, never animated anything, never done any work besides basic shapes. Acquaintance quips "I'm going to be learning 3D in school lol!" How helpful.
...and their game idea?
OPEN WORLD SAMURAI HORROR SKYRIM.
This. will. never. ever. happen.
They have ZERO grasp on how much work and labor it takes to make a video game.

I straight up told them that I don't think this will ever come together but I'll still draw shit for practice. Still fucking pathetic that a bunch of people in their mid-20's still don't have an ounce of common sense. They should be making a 2D pixel art RPG or something.
