@Lixx - I posted a full shelf shot in the whole collection forum.

@Sanjeev - One of those dark navy blue Mechanikong was yours that I bought here in SB for $200 several years ago! Thanks! ;)

@deafmetal - MechaniKong is definitely a favorite character of mine. Missing only this one Marusan 450 to complete it.

    Robot Gorillas are fun!

Love the clear painted Marine Kongs also. Always seeking others. :)

Mark, beaufiful Hedorah. The paint on it looks fantastic. I still need to grab the mini Hedorah and hopefully one day the standard Hedorah Hawaii version.

Based on some of the beautiful toys above (especailly those clear Marine Kongs) I'd say you need a trip to Ikea for more detolfs!

Anthony, I trust you were preordering all those 'Kong 450's? As others have mentioned, they seem to be incredibly popular and go for big bucks now, even more than some of the vintage OG's! I'm obsessed with the Marusan Classic Godzilla 450's, but I quickly realized that they will make it impossible for me to collect all the versions. I missed the flesh vinyl test shot, and the first release alone seems to be a tribute to the multitude of paint variations of the classic '66 goji. I have seen about half a dozen of those figures, and they all have vastly different spray styles of silver & blue. It's both exciting and agonizing at the same time... :dam: and then I saw the 62 completely different versions being released... haha, sigh.

Those Marine Kongs look rad too, great stuff!

I was preordering the majority of those 450's Mechanikongs. The Godzilla 350 sizes starting in 2014, Marusan has been spitting about 50+ color variations each year. The majority of releases are for the Godzilla Generation event.

Thank you @Sanjeev ! He really looks more like a cross between a horse (subjected to intense radiation) and reptile. I found your post re. the weapon Doku Utsobo uses
    http://skullbrain.org/bb/index.php?...s-and-their-weapons-project-post.46047/page-2
He's depicted with a sword and there is a close up of his snake paw. Really weird looking villain!

Found a hint at the episode he appears in - Disc 1, Track 1 (shame there isn't a version with sub-titles!)
    http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/DSTD-7105
It must be a fun episode!

I think Doku Utsubo is supposed to be an eel. Doku Utsubo would be 'Poison Eel'.

Thank you Daniel! :D:D:D That all makes sense now! That "horse head" is really an eel snout. And that twisty windy "snake" body is really a leopard moray eel!:D They are quite vicious though!

Ok, this isn't exactly vintage (if you object, please let me know and I'll delete it), but I ordered the Mandarake Zenbu #37, specifically to help me identify those vintage pachi and non-pachi tiger toys. The pics are a great reference! For those that love tiger toys I highly recommend it, there are fair number of pages, so I'll just show a few (sorry for the crappy pics)

Pardon the box of lollipops . On the left side of the page is some sort of Tiger Mask kiddie riding machine. You can see the coin-operated gizmo too! I would've liked to see this contraption in action!

So many goodies! The Tiger Mask rocket friction toy (lower right) is so nice, and it's great to see all of the original boxes too!

There goes that Takatoku watering toy (bottom left), wish I could actually read the catalog! :x

That is a cool catalog, Grace. If you have a smartphone, I recommend the Google Translate app. You just take a photo of the text you want to translate, and selectively choose it with your finger. It's not perfect, but it's better than nothing.

@Mr. Humphreys - I recommend bright light and get as close as possible, especially for small text. The app has trouble with tiny/blurry text.

OH man, some crazy hauls in here lately! :D Love seeing the superb vintage toys come in.

Roger - Gorgeous man, going to be so nice in your collection. As Daniel already said, definitely think he is an 'eel'-inspired frightful fella.

Anthony - Dang man, you are killing it. I am glad I wasn't fighting against you for those MKs this time man. At least now that your collection is approaching orbital status, I know I will have improved odds in the future. And until then, there is no question which place to pay a visit to to get my mechanised ape fix! Stunning man, but you know that already, and my shared love for this particular delight. I really love seeing them all lined up like that too, thanks man! On the Devilman, that's a tough one. While I am in the 'open' camp generally, I appreciate everyone's got their own take on it. They aren't particularly rare, so these is always a chance at another one, which you can choose then or just chase a loose one if you like (but damned if you will ever match that price again even for a loose fella :| ), but for me, there is nothing like playing with examining a toy in person, touching it and really experiencing the joys of it just like a kid.

Mark - That is a really lovely Hedorah. Gorgeous paint on him, and barely any of that 'nose' wear they so often suffer from. And he is just extra lovely all cleaned up like that. I am so happy for you that one came along your way after the earlier miss, it must have been meant to be. This particular toy is a bit of a soft (and sore) spot for me, as he is sort of a grail I have chased many times through the years, missed out on many occasions, and even had one snatched away from my grasp after I won a 'perfect' version. Time, I know. Us vintage collectors sure measure things in a different scale, haha. Glad you got just the right 'look' on him you were after.

Grace - Excellent catalogue! I ought to snag some of these Zenbu issue myself. They are a wealth of information as you said, not to mention some simply gorgeous photos of wonderful toys. An easy substitute (and addition) to the toy books that we all can ogle for hours on end.

Very nice Michael. Those midsize villains are getting harder to track down these days, so one is impressive enough, but seeing a whole grouping of them is a real treat. I would say you had a very successful trip indeed! :) And I am sure it was a blast besides, in addition to the great toys you came back with. Did you part with the remainder of that YJA lot already, or this special guy is just a highlight?

Oh wow @michael forgot about your trip (for some reason I thought it was later in March). So how was CKA? Did your head immediately explode as soon as you went there? Pics of those cases still make me dizzy, if I were to see them in real life I'd probably have to have someone bring me outside for air to try to stop me from hyperventilating.

Obviously the next question would be how was Mandarake, and finally did you sneak any pics at any of the stores?;)

@michael - Nice picks, and I am envious of your Japan trip. I would also be interested in any toy shop photos or stories. I hoping to go next year with my brother, but we are very early in the planning phase. I'm not familiar with all the characters in your photo, but the batguy with the big belt looks really fun.

@ultrakaiju - Thank you, and I know how you feel about chasing this figure. I must have bid on over a dozen different auctions over the last year or two, but they always seem to go for 20,000-30,000 JPY no matter the condition. I was looking for one without the heavy nose damage you describe, but I also wanted one with just the dot of black spray on the top of his head, not the heavy black spray line across the top of the head or down the face. Those are harder to find, and seem to draw out the larger bidders. Here is the one from a month ago that I felt was just perfect, but it was almost too perfect condition-wise, and I ended up getting totally crushed on the price:

At the end of the day, I think I just may like mine even more, which is the best possible outcome. :)

@ultrakaiju thanks! i was having a blast tracking these down, i was really hoping id find a "reasonably" priced frankenruge, and it actually happened! the rest of my YJA lot stayed in japan, i ran out of room in my pack, and they helped fund one of these purchases haha. you'll see them on mandarake soon im sure, i had a nice conversation with the older guy who was the buyer from vintage toys.

@Lixx CKA was amazing, some insanely nice quality toys in great condition. i would have to say that Third Uncle had a little more of a selection, but they were both insane vintage stores with amazing cases of everything. also, both with very nice owners. Yoda gave me one of his zines of Longneck designs, and we chatted about making toys a little bit! i didnt snap any shots, secret or otherwise, i tried to be respectful and just enjoy the stores, i was also a little scared to ask haha

@deafmetal - dont hesitate to reach out if you have any questions! i mostly used the tokyo underground book as a loose guide. also, the bat guy with the big belt is an osato finger puppet of the bat villain from kamen rider, i had the same one and sold it here a while back when i needed some quick cash!

@scobot ! indeed, i will have to thank the US government on getting me my tax returns before my trip, those popy barom 1 are not cheap to come by! i got a steal on the silver bug because he had an air bubble on one antennae, resulting in a slight defect and paint flaw!

@scobot , so nice! Was that the Nakajima Triceratops winder with the broken foot, or the earlier perfect one? I've been looking for the same! Daniel has three beautiful Nakajima winders. Can't quite tell who the orange monster is in the baggie, can you elaborate please? Nice treasures! :D
