@Alebrije - I did get the winning bid on the figure. It's a cool-looking piece! I dig the custom paint job regardless of what it turns out to be. Also, I pulled out my Marusan 1999 J-tail reissue last night for a close comparison to these YJA photos... and I'm not seeing an exact match. The vinyl on the bottom of the feet looks different. The Marusan has a totally flat almost hard-vinyl surface, but the auction photos show some soft indentation. I could be wrong though. The reason I think it's a possibility is that the Marusan only has an ink-printed stamp, which could be painted over, and not an engraved stamp. Marusan started using an engraved stamp again with their revised 2008 J-tail mold.

BUT :dam: - since this is turning out to be a crazy week (and now also expensive), Grace just tipped me off to an unpainted flesh vinyl bootleg that just popped up at Mandarake, which I have also just ordered. :dam: Hoping they still have it:

Thank you, Grace, you're the best! :) I do have a huge pile of '66 classic gojis, as it's the primary focus of my collection. I do not have an entire room full of toys, but I have a decent Godzilla sofubi collection, with a focus on specific figures and sculpts. I am working on getting some good photos of everything. I might buy a few more matching risers and try to show all the '66 gojis in one shot (or one stitched-together shot). It would probably looked quite insane.

@deafmetal I could say that this flesh color goji is one of my favorites and during the short time I have collecting I only saw a few on sale, but this one is in excellent condition, very clean and without graffiti. Many congratulations Mark is a great addition to your Gojis collection.

Nice grab Mark on the bootleg Goji. My flesh bootleg MechaniKong was made of polyurethane. I am guessing yours will also be made of the same material. Also mine was overall bigger than the OG version by a few millimeters. Let met me know if yours is the same. :)

@deafmetal , well Mark, when I saw him pop up, it wasn't hard to figure out who would give him a good home! I hope you received your confirmation of adoption by now. Please be sure to post pics of his arrival! Can't wait to see more pics of your herd :D

If that King Joe and Barugon are original and not busted-up they are each worth way more than that end price.

The auction description mentions an antenna repair on the King Joe, but wow, what a toy pile that is.

@Mr. Humphreys - I forgot to mention how cool it was to see you pull the first post from this thread along with that recent Red Baron auction, nice!

There are very good pieces in that pile, but most are broken or incomplete, for example the head of the devilman is not the one that corresponds to him, if I am not mistaken it is the Moonlight Mask made by Bandai.I think it's a lot of money to take the risk, but if you have some incomplete pieces would be a good batch for parts.

Grace thanks for sharing that 'refresher.' What an incredible toy, and what an auction. Very fitting indeed to see the cycle come around. And, it also tells me I am not completely insane in imagining the hiking of prices in vintage toys over the last few years. It is becoming a tough market to me a poor collector. :(

Anthony that is indeed a really nice lot of toys. Sure, the condition is not great on some of them, but you do get a whole lot of joy there in one go. I would certainly be very happy with a lot of those beaten up 'reject' toys, and you'd have to pay a lot more if you broke down this by figure, even in the state they are in. A great price if you ask me, but obviously a grouping that wouldn't appeal to everyone.

Mark really glad that you ended up snagging this guy, so sincere congratulations again. I toyed with him too long, but not at all for lack of appeal - he is certainly a fantastic toy, and one with great history. I have a particular penchant for fleshy toys, and when it comes to vintage even more so. So when you couple that with a classic Goji sculpt it is really like the perfect storm. That is one excellent figure, and I really love that he has one of the sharper up-turned tails (7-segment I believe?). A wonderful variant and really nice shot at a classic bootleg. I can't think of a place better suited for him to come home to. As I said, and Anthony mentioned, I am interested to see (i.e. hear) what the vinyl quality and size of him is like when you have him in hand; the bootlegs seem to be hit and miss with 'vinyl' type and consistency, but I am really hoping this one turns out top notch for you. Thrilled to see such a nice toy for sale, even if it didn't come home to my humble abode.

@ultrakaiju - Steve, you are a scholar and a gentleman, and I appreciate your understanding and well wishes. I would have been happy as well to see the figure appear and be adopted into your museum of flesh vinyl monsters. I will be preparing a full report after the arrival of not just this delightfully unpainted specimen, but also two additional custom-painted "supposed" 80's flesh vinyl bootlegs. It will be interesting to the compare all three for size, vinyl type, and consistency.

Speaking of flesh vinyl monsters, I just watched this stunningly beautiful Bullmark King Maimai end at auction for 51,500 JPY:

That was a gorgeous fellow too, I agree. I know most collectors prefer as mint as possible, but for me, I really like it often when the paint is worn to a degree on these, and allows you to see that beautiful flesh-coloured vinyl to shine through in parts. This guy especially is really nice with that blue, one of my all-time favourite colour combos in a toy (I long for more than a couple in this pattern). The spots on his back were odd though, not really sure what was going on there; it doesn't look like mere surface stains to me, but rather something sunk in a little, but not sure that it is magic marker either. A bit pricey, but I do love K. Mai-Mai and his very odd dino-wild goat style.

This made my morning, thanks Steve. :D
I want to develop my own dino-wild goat style now. Not sure what it would look like, or if it might get me arrested....

And yes that King MaiMai is gorgeous. The patina of wear on him is perfect.

All too happy to oblige. :)

Nothing super special in this grouping, but again, like the one posted a bit earlier, you really get a hell of deal for a major grouping of toys. So thought I would share it. Short of Moog's incredible bargain steal, this is an ideal place for someone starting to get right in on Tiger Mask collecting. Even with the condition some of them are in (admittedly not great), you get a few boots in there, some really great and fun toys period, and frankly, if you break this town on a per-toy price, I don't know how anyone could complain. Heck, just for some wrestlers to be all rough-and-tumble with, and just plain enjoy as the toys they are meant to be, rather than 'collector's items' I can see a lot of value. So, rare for this thread, a cheap auction by comparison.

Yes, some of these have seen better days.

I believe the splotches on the back of King Maimai to be something like oxidation of the metallic sprays. Oxidation is probably an incorrect term, but I believe there is some sort of chemical reaction going on. They are quite common where there are large areas of metallic spray. You will see it on Hawaii sprays and also on Kamerking. The ones I've seen were not indented. They appeared to be "inside" the paint and some were much larger than those shown above.

@Mark K - I always refer to it as oxidation too haha. My frankenruge mini is dull and nonexistent almost where the gold spray was, and I remember a bootleg devilman of mine had weird splotches as well as some metallic paint still apparent. The fun patina variations of vintage toys

That's what I was thinking too, but it was difficult to judge and I didn't want to jump to conclusions. Most of the cases of oxidation I have seen is much more uniform, but it's interesting to here this 'spotting' is actually more common on some metallics. Might have something to do with poor mixing of the paint components at the time of mixing.

Here's another one I thought I would share. These Bandai Thundermasks are - or at least used to be - not all that uncommon, I myself have a 'junk' version. But to see a complete one with a mask was a real rarity these days. I know of at least a couple folks just among us who would love to have a masked version of this fella, so for one to come up for sale, with all of his accessories, and in pretty excellent nic too, is something very special. Really nice paint, a great face, good lustre on the metallic, and not even a hint of tearing on the back of the mask - pretty impressive stuff. Those lovely ruby gloves look so nice and bright you'd think he could slip them right off. This guy couldn't have seen much play at all I am guessing. Going back a few pages one of these ended last year much higher than this guy (and in significantly poorer shape), so I'd say this was a very good buy for a lucky person.

No idea when the next one of these will come along, the vintage market being what it is, so taking one of these home would be a real thrill. I am one of those fellows who just loves the Thundermask design, for whatever reason, and there aren't unfortunately a wide range to choose from, so a Bandai figure, let alone a fine example such as this, would be very welcome in the collection.

Who's the bigger fool, the one who spends the money on it, or the one(s) who just wish that they could! (And seeing what else classifies as 'high-end' toys on the sofubi market these days, this is practically peanuts, and sooo far better.) B-Clubs are really great, and I am still in the camp that thinks they are highly underrated among most collector groups, but there is no question the 'real thing' tops it all.

That Bandai Thundermask is a big want of mine. For some reason the human head is really goofy but the removable mask is one of the best for that character. I don't think these are rare at all- but I will say it's a rarity to have the boots (in good shape and not all torn up) and for the silver paint highlights to be in that good of shape. That one looks almost fresh out of the bag!

I wish Medicom would reissue this guy, the giant Thundermask version (I could finally get a mask for the one I have!), and fucking zone fighter (with removable mask not like the other reissue that has no removable mask). That would make my day. Oh and throw in a giant removable mask Barom One also!

I can see someone falling for that when they are new and don't know better. Hopefully I don't mess up. I did get a marusan450 gorilla for only 100yen more than retail so I'm happy with that but I can't help thinking i'm gonna pay 500 bucks for something that's 100.

Not sure if you misunderstood what I meant or I am misunderstanding you. But just to clarify my original post. The King Maimai that sold for 50,000 yen + is an original vintage Bullmark and not the B-Club reissue. I was trying to make a joke that the buyer who paid $500 for an original could have saved money and bought a reissue for much less.

Yeh I missed the joke lol.
Check out this auction tho. I've really been into gorillas lately and I spotted this skyrocketing. Can anyone give me more release info like make and manufacturer? Is HxS the company or just a tag? Wondering what makes this guy so rare...
