No shit. The $515 price point is ridiculous by itself, but now you gotta practically blow the dude to get his toys. Who the fuck does he think he is?

I'll give him some credit, though. His marketing is pretty brilliant. A few months ago people he was getting booted from art shows. Now he's got his own multi-media campaign, art show, and he managed to flood my Instagram Discover tab with his shit.

....And other people I respect are painting runs of his figures. That's pissing me off. So you do not even have to pay dues anymore? It's like rap nowadays. Mumble Like you have something to say and you don't even have to actually rap. It's all image/hype. I mean people like Rich payed his dues. There was a time when you could buy an Ollie for $150 on the aftermarket, it was not really popular. But his scuplts and hard work over time created the deserved ongoing discussion of his work and subsequent popularity. Everything I have heard about this tan man has been shitty. I don't even see what is cool about the Mimi monster. No back story, no homage, nothing that makes it Kaiju at all. He is the lil Uzi Vert of toys. Why do people work with him? I just don't get it.

    I'd pay $85.

Not so long ago there was a run of 3 foot fiber glass sculpts for less, as I recall.

Really makes me appreciate the artists running old school pricing.

This is why Yamomark is one of my favorite artists right now. Standard-size, painted, AND glow-in-dark original figure for 7500 yen? Heck yeah!

This toy is not even CLOSE to being worth $515 in my book.
You're not paying for years of experience. Who is this guy? He just walked onto the scene out of nowhere. I can understand Izumonster/BloodGuts being expensive because he has a background in tattoo artistry. Some fans of his work want to buy his toys too. Some fans of his toys are now into his tatts. Makes sense to me.
You're not paying for size. This isn't a "giant shelf-hog" like a Rotten Rex or one of the GEEK! collabs. Those are over a foot tall, heavy, and HUGE chunks of vinyl.
You're not paying for excessive articulation or parts. Okay, so it has "elbow joints." Big deal. So does Velocitron's much cheaper Kuchisake-onna. There are a lot of toys with WAY more articulation, parts that need to be casted, etc... Just look at Jetturre's new pieces. That's a lot of parts, dang. Heads, legs, wings... Each piece takes a lot of different parts to make up one toy.

So what are you paying for? Paint?
Or maybe it's hype. Stupid, stupid hype.

I admittedly like the original Telebobo. It reminds me of a specific look Marilyn Manson used to do on the face, and I do genuinely enjoy the morbid Teletubby rip. I see the Hitler - esque stance with the toy's hands, intentional or not, I can easily work around that with different positioning. I'm not one to go looking for something hard enough until I find it, but I do understand the disposition. However, the price tags are beyond fuckin' absurd. I legitimately don't think these should be more than $150 for a standard run, *maybe* $200/$250 for a collaboration run. But $400 right out the gate, $555 for secret blank releases that came in tin foil, and now $515 for a terrible new sculpt(it looks like John C. Riley to me)...I don't get how artists can comfortably gouge their fan base like this, while also being bewildered that the fan base is so quick to shell out that kind of monies, just so they have the clout to say "I got one". I recently rocked $500 for a one off, and I was very comfortable with that, because it's a one off. It's beautifully painted. It's a large scale figure. It came from a more than established and personally well respected artist. And it's got lights inside of it, that very much expand the appearance and awe of the toy and character. These things...what the fuck.

The pigman. That's him too. Why you would want to stare at that horrid thing everyday is beyond me, and for the price I could track down a Boss Carrion, a DX, or about 5 full sized yamomark.

    Or a $400 blister pig.

Absolutely not. I don't wanna drag the artist's name into this thread, innocent enough as that may be, but it's in the American artists section through an aquatic based character.

Didn't see it brought up here yet, the name of this 1st version of the new frumpy Muffin top, dirty underpants sculpt is "white truth" Definitely sounds questionable! Lol

Has it been clarified whether the new stuff was actually pulled in Japan with Japanese style articulation points or just marked "made in Japan" like his first figures?

I would like to hear from artists still choosing to work with Tan and their reasoning behind it... I'm interested in hearing what a good enough reason could be; perhaps something I hadn't thought of... Cause as an outsider, I can't help it, but my opinion of some of these people has changed for the negative because of these alignments...

There's SO much that I'm sure I don't know, but from what I do, no matter how attracted I may be to one of "his" toys or however "nice" he may seem, I could never support or work with this guy...

This dude doesn't have fans, he has suckers, and that's what he thinks of them, not me.

I hate to say it, but I'm right there with you on that one. I don't think I want to buy from these "continued collaborators" anymore... which is a damn shame, because I was looking forward to one day having enough money to afford a piece from them.

    It's a fuckin toy.
    And a stupid one.
All of them. And this thread too,
    Maybe especially so.
I can't believe this shit is controversial to you.
He's a huge nag fan, followed the blueprint (pretty well I may add) and this thread reeks of 2008

Rinse and repeat for the new wave of collectors that missed the NNN shenanigans first time around!

Just gotta wait for Mishka, Coop or Kozik to start swinging from his nutsack and it's a done deal!

Of course I agree with that
And people should do their homework
Read the fuckin stupid old threads instead of creating stupid new ones
About toys no one seems to like
But everyone wants to talk about

All you nerds getting your panties twisted over some dude in China having a laugh (rewatching extras) need to reevaluate the things you chose to get worked up over.

This is not edgy, it's not controversial, and there's too much fucked "irl" offensiveness out there for me to care.

Lastly, just so there's no confusion, my posts come from insomnia fueled boredom, not any real interest in this toy other than to laugh at all you chuckleheads

Except for you, Andy. I heart you Andy.

    So much for Hitler-"esque"

At the rate in which he is increasing the price, he'll start offering installment plans and layaway service by 2018.

Hmmm.. yet I spoke about the Utsugiyo beshimi being a run of 50 or more for $900 each and no one wants to shed light on that.

    Confused.

@eckotyper I didn't want or like that one at all, so I didn't really speak on it. As mentioned with the 'Bobo, I dig it, but not the price tag. So I figured an opinion was valid for the conversation.

I think at the beginning they were being pulled in Japan, as they were stamped that way, but it slowly went away from that. I don't think they are stamped with anything anymore so who knows where they are being made.

i think with Utsugiyo, they tend to only do a single release of a figure and then never touch it again. So even though yes that seems substantial for a run of 50. Those may very well be the only 50 figures ever made.
