Does anyone have a list of all the Marvel, DC, and Star Wars 10-inch vinyl figures Medicom has released so far in the retro sofubi series?
Re: Medicom Star Wars + Marvel retro sofubi And for Marvel, I think you can view them all here: http://www.medicomtoy.co.jp/prod/3/16/158/ (though see robin & the penguin snuck in on that page somehow) spidey ghost rider venom vision ultron iron man
Re: Medicom Star Wars + Marvel retro sofubi That link skipped my favorite: http://www.medicomtoy.co.jp/search/9481.html
Re: Medicom Star Wars + Marvel retro sofubi ugh yes, I really want an Iron Man, and I wouldn't kick Ultron out of my collection either. EDIT: aaagh! I hadn't even seen Vision & Ghost Rider!
probably not complete, but: batman robin joker harley quinn superman bizarro batgirl catwoman swamp thing
I saw pics of an Incredible hulk figure, anyone know if that came out? I just ordered my first 2 Retro Batman and the Joker! Stoked.
The next wave of Marvel Retro Sofubi is the Hulk and Rocket Raccoon. The DC list I've updated in order of their release: Batman The Joker Superman Bizarro Swamp Thing Batgirl Catwoman The Riddler Harley Quinn Robin The Penguin Black Suit Batman Deathstroke
Really love this line! Too bad the Star Wars figures aren't sold in the US. That Boba Fett cost me way too much. I've got most of the DC figures and a few of the Marvel pre-ordered. While I'm not a huge Spider-Man fan, it probably turned out the best of the figures so far.
The Spidey is indeed one of the best in the line. Actually these figures are priced quite reasonable, and the Star Wars line is at ok price in Hong Kong
Actually I think they are also not considered cheap at retail in japan which I assume is due to the cost of licensed products. On a sidenote, I am glad to see the chewbacca is made in japan. Hopefully this is the trend going forward with these series.
The complete lines, as far as I've seen: DC: Batgirl Batman Batman (black suit vers.) Bizarro Catwoman Deathstroke Harley Quinn Joker Penguin Riddler Robin Superman Swamp Thing MARVEL: Deadpool Deadpool (X-Force vers.) Ghost Rider Hulk Iron Man Rocket Raccoon Spider-Man Ultron Venom Vision Vision (SDCC clear vers.) STAR WARS: Boba Fett C-3PO Chewbacca Darth Vader R2-D2 Stormtrooper Seems Medicom has moved on from retro-tizing these 'merican properties. Too bad. I wonder if the decision had more to do with licensing issues or actual sales. Seems like they could have kept producing new characters from all 3 licences from then until the end of time... Some of the biggest surprises --- No X-Men? Missing Avengers? And SW is a cow who's milk never runs dry!
I was surprised to see so many of these guys were made in China. Not that it actually matters, but the whole "it's not real Sofubi if it's made in China" angle that people tend to take, coming from the biggest toy company in Japan. Y'know?
DC BATMAN line: SUPERMAN line: SWAMP THING: MARVEL SPIDER-MAN line: The rest of the gang: STAR WARS ...because what is time for if not to be wasted?
Thanks for compiling the list David, great work with it. For me, the biggest omission has always been the X-men too, though I would shell out money now as well for some New Gods. [Yeah, my tastes cross the big brands, sowhatyouwannafightaboutit?] I could easily fill a whole shelf with the Medicom heroes, makes little difference to me at all where they might 'come from,' though I do agree it should be made very clear. The price has been all over the place, with some heavy bargains available stateside, but, like so many other things, international for these is killer. Even if I could break the shipping barrier somehow, it irks me to no end that I would have to pay a 70% premium on a lot of them (IF I could find them), than what an average American could just pick up with a click and a couple days of patience from Amazon. So yeah, end result = no toys pour/poor moi.
I dunno mate, i'm pretty sure Medicom have never made a secret of the fact most of their toys are manufactured in China. Much like post-80's Bandai. Does Mecha-Elvis count?
All the Star Wars ones are pretty great, but the Chewie in particular is a thing of beauty, to be sure. For those of us who remember them, this is most certainly an homage to the vintage Takara Chewbacca. Sadly, they are almost as hard to purchase. My only thing is, where is DOOOOOOOOMM??! I really hope this line has not died out completely (as I fear it might have, due to the lacklustre response it has had so far) before the realisation of so many other excellent comic characters. Like David or JP said I believe, it unfortunately is straddling a middle ground between sofubi fans and comic/action figure fans, but seems largely non-fussed over by either group. Which is a good thing for buying them [now] but does not bode well for seeing more made; especially in the wake of so many Funkopopgoobs selling like mad.
