Nothing like packages from the other side of the Atlantic as opposed to the Pacific. Fresh from the UK:

Had to actually go abroad to get a Ebbets Field Flannel crew sweatshirt (US Company based in Seattle) from a japanese baseball team (Tokyo Giants 1953). Terry crew sweatshirt with embroidered lettering. And of course Sci Wax pressure. New BKey!

Ebbets is my jam. It's a bit pricey, but they have good sales a couple times a year

Lots of funky drums and fuzz guitar on this album. Killer tunes by Shunsuke Kikuchi.

@deafmetal - I'm definitely hearing a little Morricone in that one. The kind of staccato, almost shouted stuff? They do say if you're going to steal, steal from the best. This video is hilarious, btw. I'm assuming this was unintentional:

@Odibex - I agree, and I believe Morricone inspired a lot of composers in Japan and elsewhere in the 60's/70's and onward. If you listen to Shunsuke Kikuchi's music for the anime Neo-Human Casshern, it also has a lot of western/gunfighter themes as well.

@deafmetal - Interesting. It's funny how certain things will resonate in other cultures. Toho studios actually successfully sued Sergio Leone because Fistful of Dollars was pretty much a retelling of Kurosawa's Yojimbo. And Yojimbo was basically a western set in samurai days, so that stuff is pretty closely interwoven!

Speaking of westerns and non-vinyl stuff you got in the mail, Playmo is about the only non-vinyl toy I buy with any regularity. These two guys were a blister pack, and everything else was from an "add-on" pack, which means it doesn't come with any packaging, just a plastic bag. It actually cost slightly more than the dudes. They're the only western things I had (well besides Indians/Native Americans), so I thought I'd get some stuff so they didn't look so lost.

I am sure we might have had a more relevant thread for this, by way or art or books, but anyways, here is as good a place as any I suppose to share this. A really amazing - and I mean that, this tome is just chalk full of illustrations I find completely engrossing - collection/Mook book of artwork by Hikozo Ito (伊藤彦造), I happened to dig out from a used bookshop in a small seaside town. Truly, the art is just mind-blowing to me, of both a style and subject matter I truly enjoy. Simple, black and white (for the most part), but completely inspiring and gorgeous. Each image really contains an incredible amount of detail, and the scenes convey so many stories - which, as an illustrator for Shonen-Kurabu magazine, is entirely appropriate. Such a collection of Edo-era images, conveying incredible sword-fighting (Ito-san was a descendant of a master fencer and himself a serious devotee of swordsmanship), samurai and working class, women, the exposure to 'foreigners' of the period, heroic tales, mythology, history... just so much to take in. Apologies for going on about it, but I am just really enjoying the glorious content of these pages. Some photos below, for those that are interested in his work, but these are pretty atrocious copies from my point-and-shoot, and don't even come close to doing justice to the master. The book itself has seen some love through the years, but was wholly a brilliant find in my humble opinion.

Amazing stuff there D, I am feeling as colourful as that backdrop, looking at your new additions. Time to make a visit to the Hartman Library, take a few hours browsing through the card catalogue and see what's available on loan. (I wonder if my membership card is still even good there? It has been ages...)

So, I have never been a fan of Minimates, or even Kubricks, or any other of the various Lego mini fig-esque products out there, but these I had to have. I mean these guys were pixelated to begin with, so it works for me. I believe this lot are from Final Fantasy III? They're really fiddly, you're lucky to get them to stand, let alone get a pose going and random limbs will just fall off about half the time you pick one up. That's cool with me, though. I'm surprised I thought to but the mage at the back, I haven't played a JRPG in a couple years.

I am glad that you are enjoying your mini peg family, D. Nothing like the simple, cheap, pure pleasures of toyjoyment to bring that welcome smile and childlike feeling back to your 'real life.' Congrats on the new addition to the smiling family, and once it gets into the realm of playset, be sure to post us those action scenes of your 'FP' playventures! ;)

Alright, I'm actually posting this 'cause I need help and there doesn't seem to be an appropriate place to ask. I bought this hunk of keshi a while back and it's been sitting in a drawer since May, because, apparently I'm supposed to drill holes for the eight wheels that came with it. (spoilered pic). Which I did not know. I saw that it had holes, I did not see that the holes were only about a 1/16 of an inch deep. I mean, it took me a while to even work out that I was probably supposed to drill them. I am just not handy with power tools, and definitely not familiar with using power tools on keshi. I don't even own a drill, though I suspect I might be able to get one for what I paid for this thing. I just.. you know what I don't even have a question. Anyone know of any keshi forums? :|

Ah, Johnny, a man after my own heart. You need to dig through some of the threads here and check out SLM's amazing collection. I'd love to build up an army from the various vintage lines, but unfortunately the market on these toys over the last few years has gone a bit bonkers, so it had to take a back seat.
