    Aside from some trade-off "tossery"...
I know for a FACT and appreciate that there are some fans that travel pretty far to attend those shows as well, hence many pieces that end up further overseas. In which I find strange sometimes.
Let me add another  to cement the irony. ;)

Don't twist it like that.. following the trail of the thread it doesn't read like that was what you were trying to say. And the attendance at Australian shows has been 99% from people based in Australia.

I swear I think this thread is cursed. It always starts arguments.

There are too many shows now. Next year I’m gonna pick two and that’s it. I find myself painting more for shows than I do regular releases then nothing sells because it doesn’t look like everyone else’s stuff.

Oh and 4 eyed OG Nag is the only one that matters in my opinion.

Hi all, Aussie collector here. I never post on Skullbrain but thought I'd chime in. I have clarified this is how you feel within your local scene in America, yes Rob? I doubt anyone would wish us down under ill will for forming our own scene over the past few years. With Japan manufacturing all the great sofubi and being closer to in distance to our country than the USA it's about time we all did something for ourselves! We are all super appreciative to the artists supporting us here as well.

Which continent is this? Would just like to confirm as it sounds unpleasant. I still have all the pieces I bought from shows you have supported here in Australia Paul, as do my friends who live here and collect your stuff as well. :D

Like I said, I know a few good collectors in Australia. Perhaps my sarcasm was extreme. I'm a very cynical person in my old age.
Just let me say It's a bit disheartening seeing a few pieces intended for a "small scene" such as Australia end up going elsewhere even if they end up with Hype beasts with $$$. I'm wondering why I don't just sell direct to those people like some others do lately and skip the gallery fee? What's the point?

It happens everywhere to be honest. I'm preferring to be at the shows lately.

Good luck finding them without opportunities like exhibits to introduce your toys to new fans.. that's what the whole purpose is when it comes to exhibits in places like Australia. At least that's why we started Soft Vinyl Mayhem. We want to help sofubi artists build their customer base in areas that are unaware of the awesome artwork you guys are making.

The gallery fee allows us to present the toys in a nice space, pay rent for a central location, renovate the room to accommodate for toys, print flyers, promote your work.. but hey if you want to be ungrateful about it then that's your mindset.

I haven't been in one of your shows, so maybe you should just quit firing off like I effing owe you something.

You don't.. I asked the first year and you said "No" so I left it at that. No harm no foul... but the shit you've posted today deserved to be called out on. I'm not butt-hurt in any way about not having your stuff in SVM so don't label me as feeling like you owe me something.. you're doing great by yourself, you're hyped enough and I don't collect your toys personally.

It sucks if you do decide to make an example of our country by consciously not supporting future exhibitions thanks to someone who did the wrong thing and the fact that you can't attend the shows here in person. In your words the same thing happens everywhere - I can jump onto ebay dot com or Yahoo Auction Japan at any given moment and find your pieces flipped. On the Australian market: not so much. It is your choice at the end of the day and I mean no disrespect but I find this reaction to be a shame.

What a tolerant and well informed bunch the online community is here on Skullbrain. Cheers!

Holy titties, a lot came from my initial statement. For clarification, I meant shows in the states, and I personally find SVM to be one of the better and more legitimate shows. As far as their demographic is concerned with flippers/trade flippers, I’m not to know of any directly involved with the shows that align with that ilk, but I do recognize that every, single scene has those patrons.

I also don’t personally find anything Paul said out of line, particularly because an artist’s aspect is much different than curator/consumer. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve asked artists to be a part of a show, only to be ignored or respectfully decline, while they participate in other shows. That’s at their discretion, and I’m sure they’ve got their reasons, none of which I’m privy to. Shig is a great example of this, being that he’s a repeated artist for SVM, yet he shows nothing else anywhere, except *maybe* NYCC(the last time I was witness to this was 2014). Sometimes it takes one bad seed to ruin it for everyone else, and it can sting when an artist/artists refuse to partake because of those bad seeds. But realistically, the finger should be pointed at them, rather than the artist(s). They could easily disregard a few bad apples, but I also have to respect their desire to protect what they put their time and effort into.

Appreciate the well thought out response Rob. A few chain posts spouting vitriol is what led me personally to be offended. I think that for anyone, when their country at large is being insulted it's grounds to be taken aback.

With regards to the rest of your post I couldn't agree more. It is of course always the bad seeds in fault for starting off a poor reception towards specific communities and while at times those who did nothing wrong have to suffer the consequences for it, at the end of the day it's all up to the artist's discretion and I have nothing but love for the toys themselves.

You have to see the irony of you being upset that you believed someone judged your country as a whole because of the actions of a handful of profiteers then you go ahead an insult this entire community because of what one person said.

Admitted to be a gross exaggeration after the fact yes but I feel no guilt for thinking this post judged my country as a whole.

However with regards to my response towards this... touche. It rings true and I apologize.

Glenn, I'm sure all your fellow countrymen are very much appreciating the fact that you're making them look like assholes on a daily basis. What would this hobby be without Australia.

I did and I'm being told the problem must be on your end, probably something to do with cognitive impairment or "being a douche", although I'm not familiar with that term in a technological context. I'm sure you'll figure it out.

Watching people try to cash in on this 'sofubi' thing is probably a turn-off to many, yes.

Just going to throw it out there, money making aside (Protip: there's none to be had for organisers) I think Glenn was trying to highlight the positives for holding shows in other countries such as Australia.

I mean this point might be debated, but this quote:
could also be interpreted as "keep sofubi only for the ones who have been there since the beginning" I'm sure my point may try to be debunked in the next few posts but it sounds like a boy's club thing to say. Can't we all just get along?

EDIT: Pardon me, I don't mean to sound snarky. Not trying to argue or stir the pot, just trying to be sincere. I understand there is a lot of stress behind the "business" side of toys but I think in this thread we might all be looking at the wrong places.

One of the things I've seen that's been brought up, and mind you in comparison to some people I've hardly been collecting that long (4 years now) is that most of the time we see a lot of newer people enter the game, throw around a bunch of money, and then flip toys. Or something else that's similar happens, where-in you get new people that buy the toys at retail, and then realize the potential for money and begin to flip them. While I don't disagree with the idea of bringing new people in, when I first started attending D-con Pauls line was about 40-50 people in the lotto, in comparison to now where it has tripled that in the 2016 year. And don't get me wrong, I'm glad to meet new people, but the people who show up and buy toys that could gladly be in others homes, just to flip them for a profit, is the reason most of us are a little bit wary.

I can definitely understand the thought process behind this. I have been collecting for a similar amount of time now (4 years) but in my case, I don't get to attend many shows besides from when I visit Japan and travel interstate within Australia. I'm sure that lines tripling what they used to be at Dcon with less recognizable friendly faces sucks. As most of my shopping is online, I feel the sting when I come across flipped toys. We are lucky here that the community here is still relatively small and a lot of us know each other.
