Friend of mine sent me a snap the other week of the view from the place he was staying at in the Czech Republic.

I replied with a quickie of the reading materials on the table in front of me. Best I could do.

I don't really recommend the following two graphic novels other than for it's wonderful art. Story wise both were a disappointment. I remember both of them being release and quite excited to get my hands on Spider-Man Hooky simply because of Bernie Wrightson art and Elektra Lives because of Frank Miller's return to Elektra. Elektra Lives is not so bad of a read, but it's not great or memorable.

Marvel Graphic Novel The Amazing Spider-Man in Hooky. Published 1986.

Epic Comics Elektra Lives. Published 1990. (It has been reissued sometime in 2000's, but under the Marvel Comics name)

@Lalo - As nice as Bernie's art is, it feels out of place in the Hooky story. You have these scary looking beast more fit for a horror comic than a Spider-man story.

1980's Epic Illustrated. Something I use to read as a kid. Never did complete the collection. Mssing about 5 to 7 issues. Might have to hunt down the rest some day. Short stories in each magazine. Some story lines carry over through other issues. Epic Illustrated reminds me of Heavy Metal magazine with less sci-fi feel to it.

    those epic books look great!

just finished reading hip hop family tree. loved it! great art and it was a good way to tell the story of hip hop's early days. makes me look forward to piskor's grand design even more!!

just read the first dark tower collection. writing is good and jae lee's art is amazing. perfect for the book.

about to begin reading godland. the sci-fi/kirby vibe is heavy, and i love it! hopefully the story lives up to the visuals.

Yeah, i have a few EPIC stashed away somewhere - they are great. That splash page you shared really reminds me of the classic 'Arzach' by Moebius.

I recently picked up the NBM translations for 'Roxanna and the Quest for the Time Bird'. Its a surprisingly sophisticated story, the covers make it look like something a lot less interesting than what it actually is. Wonderful stuff, the artwork reminds me of Hermann's 'The Towers of Bois-Maury'.

Went to a small comic show today. They didn't have anything I was looking for, so I hit the cheap .50 cent boxes and grab a couple dozen comics. These are some of them.

@sketchyhabits - Awesome. I have the complete collection that comes in the cardboard suitcase. I'm only about 1/4 in so far. I've never really been able to definitively say if Nemo or Krazy Kat was the better comic. It probably depends what you mean by comic.

    Now you're talking!
I have the 'complete' hardback collection of these and the gigantic 'So many splendid Sundays' collection.
Reproduced in the original size and colours, probably the most expensive comics collection i've ever bought . . .

I picked this Omnibus up recently second-hand and i'm loving it. 'Ogri' is a lesser known cartoon by Paul Sample which appeared in 'Bike' magazine and later in 'Back Street Heroes'. He is obviously influenced by the American underground comix and especially the famous British cartoonist Hunt Emerson.

Anyone seen this new The Tick show? I did not even know it was a thing. I kinda feel like Puddy is always going to be The Tick to me, though.

Shoot Anthony, you made out like a bandit!! Very lovely scores, those are some incredible choice collections you dug out of those bargain bins, and for 50 cents too??!!! WOW. Awesome stuff, love the bronze age, as it is really what I grew up with and still read the most of. Would have been very thrilled to be right beside you in that action digging through for treasure.

@ultrakaiju - I was surprise to see 50 cent boxes around still. Most dealers have moved up to $1 for years now.

Anyone read the comic WE3? I read about it and it seems interesting. Is it worth a buy?

Checked out the pilot months and months ago, and had a look at the next one when they all showed up online. That was more than enough. The show is fine, I suppose, but not nearly as funny or compelling as one would hope, and the tone is all over the place. Too bad, really, as I absolutely love Serafinowicz and can't think of a more perfect actor to step into the role.

The live action version with Warburton in it is worlds better, for sure, but the One True Tick adaptation, for me, will always be the Fox cartoon. Watched a few of those after the Amazon disappointment and they still hold up.

YES! A wonderful book by a fantastic team - Grant Morrison has long been one of my favorite writers in the medium, and I've yet to see a book pencilled up by Quitely that isn't a total treat for the eyes.

    EDIT:
50 cent bins!!! All 5 of these actually only set me back $2.12:

I read this English translation published by SelfMadeHero.
    A low-key and engaging little graphic novel . . .

Lovely stuff indeed. And nothing beats the original colouring. While I am grateful for 'modern' collections, to offer such treasures (often unobtainable to the general meek fools like myself), the new version - and ESPECIALLY the digitized panels, which I am sure I railed against here a few times - are anywhere from lesser good, to disappointing, to outright atrocious.
