I actually only started watching a little horror this past year or so, so I do need to do some catch up. This sounds pretty interesting, being basically derived from a ballad, etc. I'll put it on the very short list (along with Texas Chainsaw Massacre) of older films I kind of dread seeing but will probably end up saying "OK, why was I making such a big deal about it" about, I mean, most of the stuff I've seen so far isn't really all that "scary" in the way I'd imagined it'd be (and why I was avoiding it, frankly). So far I think I the thing that affected me the most was Get Out, and that was more on a creepy level than a scary one. At any rate, I am a sucker for good scoring/soundtracks. I want to actually notice the music and for a director to give it the same importance as the camera. It just effects you in a way other stuff can't, even if it's not as quantifiable.

So I'm 0 for 2 for horror movies this weekend.

I watched Sacrifice on Netflix which stars Radha Mitchell. It was more a suspense thriller than anywhere near horror. It was more like a tv-movie even! The description threw me off with "pagan rituals" and whatnot. That being said, it was shot in Scotland and Ireland and was rather beautiful....just not horror.

I also watched As Above, So Below. I enjoyed this but wouldn't considerate it horror in hindsight either. 1/3 found footage, 1/3 Indiana Jones/National Treasure/treasure-seeker-vibe, 1/3 creepy = this movie. Points for filming in the Paris catacombs though.

Next up: Tag from Japan in 2015. (That is horror, right?)

I really liked As Above So Below. It fit into like 5 movie genres I generally enjoy. I agree that it isn't really horror but I never know how to differentiate between a horror movie and a scary movie. It was for sure scary I think.

Saw the Leatherface prequel this weekend. If it was unrelated to Leatherface I would have considered it middle of the road horror but as a franchise prequel I didn't enjoy it at all. The original was scary as hell because it was so randomly brutal and vicious for no reason. The bad guys were just bad guys. No motivation other then killing you and eating you and wearing your damn face. This whole movie tried to make you have sympathy for the killers. Tried to humanize them for some reason and do that thing where it seems possible that anyone could end up that way. It didn't work at all in any way. Sometimes killers should just be killers. The why and how isn't always something I want to know.

I love this movie and plan on watching it again sometime this week. Trying to rewatch some of my classic faves and new faves for Halloween, and this is definitely on the list.

Caught The Loved Ones on Hulu the other night, Australian film from 2008. Pretty nuts set up, outcast girl takes
boys that have rejected her hostage. Some reviews classify it as torture porn, its pretty close but there isnt a ton
of gore just hard to watch torture. We still enjoyed the hell out of it since your easily rooting for the kid. But now
I cannot stop thinking about the damage to his voice, gnarly as hell and worth watching if your into this thread.

That's directed by the same guy who did The Devil's Candy, which, I for one, liked.

We talked about it in this thread a ways back, with some liking it and some not. It's on Netflix and worth a watch.

If anyone is interested check out Channel Zero. There are only 6 episodes and it's pretty good. At least watch the first episode.

The first season was sooooooooooo good. The 2nd season isn't as good, but it's had some super creepy moments, and a pretty interesting plot.

In my mind I compare this to the awful shit-hole of a series American Horror Story. Channel Zero is so effectively creepy, yet subtle, and AHS just wants to hammer you in the face with over-the-top gore and sex and ham-fisted dialogue from awful actors. I'd rather watch the former, but that's just me.

I have Hausu on the ol' DVR from the last time it was on TCM. I've not tried out Devil Doll yet. Gotta be in the right mood I think.

And you know what? I keep watching that AHS crap. I haven't watched all seasons, but I do pop my head in from time to time to see how much I can bear.

Ok, The Devil’s Candy was pretty good. Although I felt that the super religious would show this to the growing children with the slogan “ metal = Satan” lol

2017 leatherface... started out good, Nice twist to what I was thinking and then just downhill... don’t really want to say predictable as it’s somwhwat a origin story and a known franchise... but it was just ehh after the twist. Fun up until then though.

The Mist tv show is on netflix now. One of the few things I've ever bothered to DVR so I saw it while it aired. I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. It has lots of flaws for sure and the special effects range from great to CGI garbage but being a huge fan of the movie I had to keep up with the show. It is worth watching and doesn't pull punches with characters and violence. If you liked the movie the show will probably pull you in pretty quick.
