Didn't know until just a few minutes ago that James Whale's The Old Dark House had been given the 4K restoration treatment...

...or that it is being screened around 8 miles from my house all weekend. Must find/fund ride, STAT!

Same spot has showings of both Night of the Living Dead and The Crazies* going on, too, and I can't for the life of me figure out why I don't care all that much.

    You should go!

The Night of The Living dead remake is in my opinion the best zombie movie ever made. Even Romero said it blew his version out of the water and it was his favorite one as well. He was asked to direct a few episodes of The Walking Dead in a similar style and refused saying that the show was just a soap opera that happened to have zombies in it and he wasn't a fan.

I just watched We Are Still Here last night. What an awesome movie! It started slow but what a payoff by the end. This has just become an instant recommendation.

I like how all of the supernatural mayhem was just from the angry spirits of previous sacrifices. The evil beneath the house that required the sacrifices didn't even surface yet. That town is screwed! ;)

I didn't know where else to put this but I highly recommend the SNL "David S. Pumkins" Halloween special with Tom Hanks.
It's animated and really funny. better than the whole regular season of SNL. can be shown to kids too.
I thought the weird dance music sounded familiar. credits rolled and it was by Mark Mothersbaugh. Extra bonus!

I do. And yes. I have it as an add-on subscription through Amazon Prime, and watch via my FireTV stick. But if you have a Roku you can watch through that. The downside of going through Amazon is that some of the movies available on Shudder are also licensed to another subscription service so you can't watch it, but that only happens to about 5% of the movies. I watch more movies with Shudder than any other service, so it's totally worth the $5/month.

If you already have Prime then you probably know about some of the issues with movie pages on there. Sometimes the titles are mislabeled, or have the wrong description. And often they have multiple listings for the same movie. One version will be available through Prime, one through Shudder, and one from another service. I found this out with Argento's Deep Red and the classic Maniac.

Damn. Guess I better get on this one!

Speaking of Shudder, they added Better Watch Out yesterday, and if you enjoyed Netflix's The Babysitter you might like this one. I can also see a lot of folks not liking it for various reasons, it gets pretty sloppy in the middle act for one, but I was pleased that a "kid" horror flick had the balls to go where it did. And the end redeemed it for me. It's nothing mind-blowing, but not everything can be The Witch. ;)

I finally saw the original Blair Witch Project. Loved the movie, and can definitely see why it inspired the whole "found footage" genre of horror... But am I the only one who found the end completely underwhelming? :? I know sometimes less is more, leave things up to the imagination, blah blah, but other than
the guy standing in the corner just like how kids were made to face the corner in the folktale of the killer
there really wasn't much else to go on.

The ending never worked for me, even watching it again recently I was like, "Huh? Meh."

The new one is pretty dumb. Lots of really loud noises for no good reason, and jump cuts that drove me bananas.

I watched Jigoku last week. It was pretty good.
For a film from 1960, the gore (when there was) was rather explicit for the time. I could totally see this unsettling people.

I definitely had to do some research after which in regards to symbolism and beliefs of Hell.

Exact opposite for me. The only part of that movie I liked was the ending.

And thanks for telling me to get Shudder @Lttr Prssd best thing I've done since my daughter was born. HAHA! I'm on a XMas horror movie kick. Watched Black Christmas for the first time. What took me so long! Those phone calls were so freaky! Loved the different ways they portrayed the killer! Made him extra creepy. Saw Christmas Evil as well, which was a disappointment. I probably would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't thought it was going to be a slasher. More of a psychological thriller. Watcher beware. Also watched Jack Frost. Horribly bad on purpose but mostly watchable. I wish the video cover appeared in the movie. The snowman could have been more monstrous.

I love Black Christmas, and actually enjoyed Christmas Evil. Although I'd read about it previously so I was prepared for the different take on Xmas horror. :) I'm going to watch both leading up to Xmas. There's a new one on Netflix called Red Christmas that I'd read about awhile ago that's supposed to be pretty crazy [Edit to add: DON'T BOTHER, IT SUCKS!]. I watched the pretty lame P2 the other day because it takes place on Xmas Eve. Wes Bentley at his coked up worst!

Also, It Comes at Night is now available through Prime. It's one of those slow burn films that ends with a that's it? Also, the aspect ratio changes throughout the film from 2.35:1 to 2.55:1 to 3:1 to denote certain changes which I won't go into. It's mostly unnoticeable until the finale. It's well-acted, although the female leads have little to do, and worth a watch, but it's not terribly exciting.

Jigoku is awesome, need to re-watch but remember there's at least two scenes that Raimi lifted directly for Evil Dead...

So, I never knew Robert Altman made a horror flick, but I discovered this very thing recently and by golly if it isn't a damn good one, too!

The great thing is it's available via Prime right now, and I suggest you all head on over and watch it. It's called Images and it's a trippy little number similar to Polanski's Repulsion.

Another great '70s film I'd been wanting to see for awhile just happened to play on TCM over the weekend. Night Visitor with Max Von Sydow reminded me of the movies I'd catch on Saturday afternoons that would kind of bewilder me because of their foreignness. I really liked the structure of this one, and the long stretches of physical acting (sans dialogue) Von Sydow had to perform.

These two would actually make a pretty awesome double-bill for those what like psychological horror.
