I figure I'd share my new sculpt with SB. This is the new version of my old resin figure and it will be produced in soft vinyl. He's about 8 inches tall.
Going to be 100% honest, because that's how I do things... Great texture. It looks like you really sculpted every clump of hair, vein, maggot(?), and bumpy lump smoothly and masterfully, which can't be said about a lot artists these days. (A lot of the "new crew" just vomits texture on things with obvious tool marking or even worse, 3D print lines) BUT. Another rotting golem makes me yawn. Not my thing, and I don't think it brings much to the table in terms of being new or exciting. The baby-face also gives me the creeps, but most babies scare me anyway.
To me it just looks like the bodies of two Tkom designs smashed together, with a different head on top.
My favorite thing about the sculpt is how you managed to add different textures to the whole entire thing but still somehow kept it all kind of smooth. You don't see that often at all. People either put tons of deep jagged texture or none at all. Paul Kaiju has pieces that I love that pull off the same effect of great texture but an overall smooth feel so it still has a somewhat classic vinyl feel to it. I also like the overall shape. It's blocky and looks tough with that square stance which I am a fan of. I like the head too. Doesn't look too mean or dumb. A thoughtful creature! What I don't like is how the left hand would run smack into the thigh. One of the reasons I usually avoid painted toys with that issue is because I went through a string of buying great stuff that ended up with lots of scuffs and paint rubs before I even got it in the mail. Stuff like that hand was the main cause. When the hands or arms can interfere with the legs or body like that mailing stuff is a big issue. It's also why most toy makers avoid letting the arms interfere with the body even if it makes the stance a little less menacing.
SB needs its own version of that Portlandia sketch, "Put A Bird On It." Except it'll be "Put A Penis on It." "VINTAGE GOJIRA? PENIS! A MINI? DISPROPORTIONATELY LARGE PENIS! A LUCKY BAG? PENIS ON EVERYTHING!" But seriously please spare us the penis
.....PUT A ZOMBIE PENIS ON THAT SUMBITCH! But in all seriousness, nice work man. This style of figure isn't my cup of tea, I'm getting quite picky in my old age. But I appreciate quality work when I see it. Kudos. I do get a little Swamp Thing vibe from him, which I dig.
This is a really tight sculpt! I like the smooth-yet-gross texture work, and the bulky proportions. Solid work man.
Thanks for all of your honest opinions and insight. Love sharing things here and seeing the reaction. He's not getting A penis
That's actually a good choice stylistically, and I don't mean that sarcastically either. He has plenty of features that add interest and a bit of a creepy-factor... putting a penis on him would just add unnecessary shock value that would take away and distact from other parts of the sculpt. (Also, I'm just so sick of sofubi penis.)
