Since a few of their toys are in this thread I figured this would be a good place to share. Apparently despite having physical headers and hashtags stating stuff was made in japan these guys have been making toys in China. They got called out by a legit Chinese maker for being dishonest about where they make stuff pretty recently. So now after releasing like half a dozen different vinyl monsters they are finally admitting that it's Chinese production and anyone who feels cheated can get a "free header card replacement" without the made in japan text. The funny part is how they are threatening legal action towards anyone making "false" statements against them.

I have no issue with where any toys are made and I love the high quality Chinese stuff but honesty matters.

 

I've always known those were Chinese. Not because I know the company, or anyone that has 'em, but just seein' the toys in photos it's obvious to my eyes. This shit is so whack. Takes me right back to Tan's bullshit about stamping his toys "Made in Japan" when the feel and the joints of the vinyl were glaringly Chinese. I loved Skattum's transparency right out the gate with his toys. Not only was that appreciated, but the quality of vinyl is fantastic, in my opinion! What's to be so embarrassed of? If you're Chinese and you're makin' toys in China, be proud of that and be a cheerleader for your home production.

 

I just looked at their IG... their cat toy in particular has that strange waxy look that the MVH bootlegs have. It's also milky white, huh. What the heck is up with that vinyl?
But dang, even on a design level, the eye placement is bugging the hell out of me. They seem uneven in every damn photo.

 

Even as a translation to english, that is the most passive-aggressive statement i've read in a while.
Starts off as a kind of apology and then turns mildly condescending and snippy at the end.

Toy companies most of us have never heard of releasing statements like they are Kaws.

Just shut up, and in 3 weeks no one will care anymore.

I've also heard these were sculpted in the mean streets of New Haven CT.

I think it is a relatively well-known company. They sell their stuff at OneUp and probably other places.

 

I've never heard of them, not going to lie. I have seen that stupid-looking rabbit-turtle before on the #sofubi tag, but other than that... nope.

 

I hadn't heard of them either. I just checked them out - not terrible but nothing particularly inspired either. A lot of their stuff looks like Grody rip off to me. Clearly another recent-ish maker who immediately start pricing their toys at expensive levels of moolah. Or am I wrong? Do they have some pedigree? Their toy design skills say no, from what I just saw.

It's just a lot of speculation by me without really knowing anything about them , but I suppose I shouldn't have deleted my post either. Ha, so now knowing that, here is my original post ...

That was my impression right off the bat too ; sometimes you can just look at "art" and know that there's no passion behind it. Can't you just just hear them saying, "We thought it looked cool", or something of the sort. I don't mean to sound cruel and I understand it's a bit of a strong statement to make , but it seems so glaringly obvious to me . In fact, I can't think of any other maker who's work strikes me this way so blatantly. I feel like they're bootlegging some stuff I came across at an outlet mall / gas station in Florida.

I would like to say that I give them props for getting out there and making what they want, but there's something so disingenuine about their work , now backed up by this recent statement.

 

Some folks make things to be noticed, others for a perception of being part of something larger.

Folks who create are not always creative, based on the volume of garbage that keeps flowing out, it seems obvious.

Just speculating on folks who are influenced by said garbage, it seems we have seen a cycle, now what comes next?

There's a lot of truth behind your statement, and anyone can see that... a Grody-like babyhead animal, a fortune cat that looks uncannily like it's riding the coat tails of the popularity and collectability of the "Misfortune Cats" blindbox series and the RxH Cats, an illuminati pyramid with tentacles, a bunny/turtle that looks like a resin garage-mashup of two copywritten toys... It's just really uninspired and looks so excruciatingly self-promoted by the looks of their IG that it's almost painful to look at.

Personally i couldn't give a rats-arse who makes what, where and when. Its none of my business.
If they find a fan-base with their lacklustre sculpting, good luck to 'em. There's a sucker born every minute.

What i find distasteful is the amount of money these people are charging for their 'product'. Uninspired
dross should not cost you an arm and a leg. All they are doing is fucking up the hobby for the rest of us.

I'm hoping these kinds of makers will fade away in time, and leave the real artists to continue the big work.
I suspect that will be the case!

 

... What's an example of some of their pricing? I couldn't find any in my search .

 

I saw $140 for the cat/turtle and over $300 for the pyramid with eyes.
