There was a cap on that release though.

    My 2 cents:
Just pick a drop time. None of this window or mystery time guessing game bs. People will always complain about not scoring on drops but it happens with every sought after product sold online. Most toy makers set a drop time and that's it. Seems to work fine for the majority. When you have people taking off work and sitting around all day at their computer smashing f5 (all clearly their own masochistic decision) waiting for a mystery drop that could have easily been a set time, can we really be surprised, or even blame them, when they have tantrums when not scoring? It must be agonizing. Their choice but it's like an addiction for many.

I mean, once you hear that people are acting this desperately to get your toy, its kind of sadistic to continue using those methods that encourage this kind of behavior. Can you really ask people to clear out a 3 hour block of their day for a drop and then act surprised or put off when they fall apart and don't display good sportsmanship? As dumb as it sounds to me to be taking off work for a drop, don't those people kind of become some of your most dedicated fans, who often end up without reward?

I didn't even check the site this time at 7 because the drop window was 7-10 and I just recall one of the the last sam drops happening at the last minutes of the day when people had been anxiously awaiting the mystery time drop all day. MVH is rightfully one of the most sought after toys. There's no need to create unnecessary hype through mystery and suspense. The toys are very limited and many people want them. It's hard enough to score without the added shenanigans. People will feel entitled and complain. Why feel it necessary to even respond to these complaints? But also, why continue to promote methods that will surely maximize aggravation and disappointment? A good mix of scheduled drops and lotteries should suffice. You could even vary the drop times each release to give people better chances who live around the world. If fans still have a problem with that then there is no pleasing them, and at least you know you did everything you can to have a normal, fair sale.

I don't think I realized that, I thought it was just open until it wasn't.

I think the reason for the mystery time frame was because he wanted to deter folks from using bots and having something automated go up. I mean I don't know the whole logistics around that so please correct me if that doesn't help at all. I understand how frustrating it is to miss a drop and waiting around trying to score something. I don't think or know if there is much of a solution to make 5% of the collectors happy. Some are fine with missing out and the others well.. you've been following this thread lol

Would much rather lose to my own fat fingers than a bot, quite honestly

I don't think bots are the problem. It likely comes down to your internet/computer speed and your own timing against the huge number of people simultaneously pressing F5. There are probably lots of people trying to grab releases on their phone, on public wifi, or with shitty internet/slow computers at home, who don't even factor those variable in. I think there are plenty of us that score regularly who don't use bots to negate the idea of having to go to such lengths to battle said bots. Maybe I'm wrong, or maybe we all should be using bots

If there were a significant proportion of people purchasing using bots, we'd know, because maybe one person on this forum would get the drop if that. When it comes to carrying out a set of well-defined instructions quickly, there is no competition between a properly-built program and a human being. It happens in prints all the time and I've seen it with some overhyped western toys. I'm very grateful that it hasn't happened here yet.

Bingo. Beautiful take; he's right about it being trivial with a coming soon page but it's doable with an unknown page unless someone takes steps to prevent it in designing the storefront. That's kind of my problem. Get big enough and you will attract the kind of people who will either buy a nontrivial bot or write it themselves.

This scares me...because I agree with every single word here. @Rich I really should have just brought these views to you directly rather than melt down. But YES. It's hard man! EVERYBODY is on the MVH train now and it's just so limited. To us oldies it's like....get off my lawn!!!!!! I've become a sofubi Nebbercracker.

I just close my shop, get it all set and then open it all at once. Obviously I don’t get the traffic that Rich does, but if I’m dropping something that’s clearly in demand, or if I have ‘mystery items’ going up, then everybody who is there when I open the shop (at the pre-stated time) has the same chance at choosing an item and purchasing it. That or a lottery. Other methods seem a touch cheeky to me.

In Japan I would ask people at events (who wanted the same thing at the same time) to thumb wrestle or paper/scissor/ rock for it. Was kind of fun. Maybe a game of online chess

Get people to post a video on instagram eating a whole tub of ice cream, fastest five get to buy the toy - obviously due to instagram restrictions if you can't finish off a tub under 60 seconds then you're fucked anyway

And from here on out I’m just gonna go full on sadist muhahahaha ! ( twists rolly finger mustache than taps fingers together...)

You must have at least one child named after one of my toys to buy from drops that I will only list with open window of 8760 hours.

Also, you’ll be required to give me a full write up report ( no less than 4000 words) about how I can better my sales system. For bonus points an essay on why only you should be allowed to win lotteries, complete with full video and graphic chart.

Well is there a system where you can't get cart jacked? I just think if I'm there, on time, and get it in my cart I should be safe to check out for a few mins. It's like tease me with photos, tease me on Instagram, tease me me with a cryptic "don't blink" message, I get it in my cart, get all the way to the end, then the message is "maybe you should start shopping." Mocking me. It's the whole site process that's a joke. Stop inviting me to an all you can eat buffet and when I get there there's 3 shrimp and 2,500 people. Just say upfront "you probably won't get one" or better yet just hold a damn lotto. The ones who didn't win can't cry, they just don't get the winning email. Keeps this drama shit down. I was under the impression that this was a big release, maybe an open order due to how it was advertised. With a 3 hour window. I mentioned Pushead before because of his fuck you attitude. He knows how limited it is, he says little to nothing when he releases stuff, and he doesn't advertise. Same with Dennis, it's lotto only, fuck you if you don't like it. I hate to say it but stop driving people mad. Be honest and say "you'll be very lucky to get this toy, it will be fast to sell out and there isn't that many, good luck" or just once agan n avoid all of that, say you have some very limited numbers email me your lottery submission. Otherwise it's like....what did you think was going to happen? People get upset. Yes it's the type of collector I am. I'm a single dad with a career, as Ben said I had my mom come take my son just to be there at release time, I was pretty jacked up thinking the new doji must be open order or a good chance because of how rich was making it sound. My whole week was over in 25 seconds. I didn't blink. I refreshed perfectly. I got cart jacked on the final stage of checkout. Then get told "maybe you should start shopping, your cart is empty". I don't appreciate being led on, then being jacked, then being mocked. That's the problem here. There are reasons the rest of the sofubi world has moved to lotteries.

There is a taoist saying that says "turn the lamps off at night as not to disturb the moths." I am a moth to your flame Rich, do me the favor of turning off the lights so I don't buzz around the lamp all night and tire myself out. Tell me ahead of time it's not going to be easy. Or...give everybody at least a shred of hope via lottery. At least that's a legit shot. Theres my essay.
