meltdown in los angeles. i was there last night and nobody wanted to speak or comment about it. nerdist had the school and theatre in the back. the shows have been lackluster. harmontown left as well as doug bensons shows. sucks that they will be gone in a week. comics as a whole got worse when it got political and started to become a stage to destroy old tropes and by greenlighting terrible comics that don’t sell. nerdist too has gone crazy how can comedy fold to political correctness? ucb has been goin down hill too just to stay current with the social climate of hollywood. i miss the comedy where men and women can be gross, violent and funny in the same sketch or bit. even improv shows they have to hold back now its just weird. well rant is about over sucks that i have to find a new spot for books and random things. there’s a few smaller shops that dont carry what meltdown had but the indie comedy scene us getting way more cramped here but hey at keast its eaining in soul cal

Just read it on their IG, did a double take. Real bummer to hear even though I haven't been there in ages.
Using Amazon and the ease of online comic platforms has really killed small and even large stores. The
world wide web is taking our jerbs.

yea i didnt want to believe it but it seems all the comics from the past 2 years really hurt the comic stores. the all new all different marvel didnt help and rebranding and re-sexing heroes didnt bode well too. nerdist is sad to see them lose a venue. LA comedy scene is strong but less space to perform is bad too. not sayin social causes and equality ruined things or just lost a building lease is bad but cant help to think it had to do with something but i will miss it all. the toys as well

I was on a holiday in LA for a few days at the beginning of March. Scouted some comic shops worth visiting and Meltdown was among them. Was excited to visit it and the cuphead promo looked cool outside. Stepping inside was like a punch to the face, there was literally nothing interesting, shelves were empty and it was disorganized and just looked sad on the inside. What a letdown!

Stopped on our roadtrip at Silver Wolf Comics & Collectibles in Bakersfield. Cool place, very friendly staff and lots of stuff.

Oh man....what a bummer. I hadn't heard this yet! Meltdown was the first comic shop I went to when I moved to LA. Such a cool place that stocked a crazy variety of mainstream, underground, and small press stuff. I helped hang and organize the Kevin Eastman show in the side gallery several years back, and hung out on the rooftop while he and Bode painted the giant TMNT mural. Good memories of this place, and always something interesting going on there. Damn.

I disagree with this. If you actually read some of these rebranded Marvel comics they are very good. Not to mention X23, Thor, X Men (Gold, Blue, and Red) and weapon H are some of the better ones iv read in awhile. The indie comics scene is has a lot of awesome stuff to. If anything you probably should be blaming the cost of living in LA in general is through the roof.

But to each there own. I support my local comic shop every Wed by purchasing 50-80 dollars worth of stuff when I can.
