Anyone else watching this new show based on the book? It's on AMC and so far I am pretty amazed at how well done and brutal it is. Apparently it's based on the true story of two ships that went missing looking for the Northwest Passage. The really cool part is that since the ships vanished they get to add all kinds of supernatural eerie stuff to fill in the blanks. So far it's very true to the time period and wonderfully acted and horribly creepy. It doesn't pull punches or carefully explain things to the audience at all. It just sticks you in a frozen wasteland and leaves you there to suffer. I am really enjoying it. It's on Mondays on AMC and up to episode 4 but if you have amazon prime you get lots more episodes sooner and can already watch 7 or 8 of them so the season is almost over since it's 10 episodes long.
I'm not seeing the other episodes on Prime. Only has through four that I can see. What trickery am I missing??
Thanks for mentioning that this is based on the Simmons book! I'm now interested in watching, even though I've only read Simmons' sci-fi books. My wife has read several of his horror novels, but not sure if she read this one. I do wish Simmons would write some more sci-fi...
This show is awesome! The fact that so many film and television production companies have finally figured out how to make great shows. Start with the foundation of good writing.
According to what I read the last 5 episodes are being released through amazon prime today so maybe check again tonight?
Exactly! Great writing and great actors makes a great show. I thought AMC would ruin it like they did the walking dead but Ridley Scott being an executive producer I guess they had the money needed to do things right.
They still have time to ruin it. If it's popular enough they'll make a sequel, get a new writing team and push out four more seasons of crap. God I really don't like the walking dead anymore. That show really sucks. Can anyone realistically explain how humans lost the ability to speak english? Stupid trash people
They can't ruin it. Seriously it wouldn't be possible at all. Don't read this unless you finished the series... Spoiler It ended much like the book did and it was supposed to be a mini-series so I think it's actually over and it was fucking amazing. There is nothing left for another season. Everyone is dead. Well almost everyone. Such a beautifully brutal show.
Well that was a bleak and interesting 7 hours so far. Can't decide if I want to finish up with the final episode tonight. 'Prolly won't be able to wait. Thanks for bringing the program, and now novel, to my attention, @Waterbear
Blerg. OnDemand is only available if you have AMC Premiere. Color me confused and frustrated. I'll just watch 'em as they record.
Sorry! I just watched them all with a friend and didn't realize there were so many hoops to jump through. No idea it would require two services or whatever it is.
@Waterbear, so this past Monday’s episode was the finale? I don’t get that... I must be missing something.
AMC released all 10 episodes via their pay app a month ago - the rest of the world only get 'em one at a time, so you're probably only half way through.
Yeah, I think the Amazon Prime thing was an error. All the episodes are on AMC Premiere, where you can pay more on top of your cable bill and then binge your favorite shows.
Really?! Well that changes Everything. I’ve got to cancel the bored meeting, push all of my experimental rain surgeries to tomorrow, and reschedule dinner at Poppy’s Pizza with the president of Old Timey Radio’s bi-annual bi-sexual periodical, it’s time to get my Terror on. Merci, @toothaction . I bid you a fond achoo.
Got this downloaded and on the 'to watch' list after revisiting Westworld again before season 2 drops! Thanks for the heads-up!
