Haha! Thanks! I feel like I don't convey them as well as I'd like to...words are hard. ;P

Thanks Nate! Always good to hear your point of view. Just to clarify, I haven't seen Quiet Place, so also have no idea what to expect. Only was bringing it up there because both were showing, and I had seen trailers for Quiet Place. For the record, and anyone reading this that doesn't know my peculiar movie critiques, do go see Hereditary it is most certainly worthwhile.

Oh, yeah, I misunderstood you. Also, please take my opinion of AQP with a giant salt lick - literally everyone else I've spoken to about that movie absolutely LOVED it. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts once you've seen it.
Another factor is that I walked into Hereditary mostly blind - about all I knew was that Toni Colette was in it. Whereas I had several people tell me how awesome AQP was before I got around to seeing it. Expectations really do impact my opinion - low expectations that are exceeded will lead to a favorable opinion and vice versa. I like to go into movies blind whenever possible to remove the opinion-tampering effect of expectations.

Watched Xtro for the first time last night. An 80's gem. An ET for horror fans. Almost lost my lunch during the rebirth scene. Highly recommend!

Patient Zero really has me at a loss. Basically it wants to be a combination of 28 days later with lots of Day of the Dead mixed in. Humanity destroyed by a zombie version of rabies and the last hope of mankind living in the last military bunker looking for a cure to the whole thing. Pretty standard fare except somehow this thing got Natalie Dormer to take the lead role and of all fucking people Stanley Tucci to play some wanna be badass buffed up mastermind zombie thing. How the fuck? The only interesting aspect was how one human was able to talk to the zombies because he was bitten but never turned. Overall it was totally unremarkable. It wasn't horrible but it wasn't good either.

So, if you've read through this thread for any length of time you've no doubt run across some fairly long posts from me. Well, now you can LISTEN to some reaaaallllyy long podcasts from me about a bunch of my all-time fave movies. Yup, I done did make me one of them radio programs. So I'd love it if you guys could check it out. Got two episodes up on my blog/SoundCloud. iTunes is all fuckered right now with their podcast connect so that's gonna have to wait a bit.

Interesting news, Mark - I was wondering about your avatar change! Hopefully I'll be able to give you a proper click this weekend.

EDIT: Hurray, an excuse to finally have a look at the copy of Phantasm that I grabbed a few months ago!

I was trying for that whole Jack's Back thing (anyone remember those billboards and ads prior to Jack-In-The-Box bringing the Jack character back??).

Well, I hope you end up loving Phantasm even half as much as I do!

And a little nervous disclaimering from me, I've never done anything like this before, and these first couple of eps show that. If nothing else you might find the Phantasm ep as confusing and incoherent as the film itself! ;)

Oh, and watch the movie first, there be spoilers in the podcast!

Oh, I know the picture well, ha, I just haven't hung out with Mr. Scrimm and company for the better part of 20 years. I just figure I should do my homework before I take your class, professor!

I know how you feel. I probably hadn't seen the darn thing for 25 years before the remaster was done. It was one of my teenage self's absolute favorites. And still is.

So I tried, unsuccessfully, to watch either Endless or Resolution, but Netflix international was just not cooperating. Instead, I got recommended with Temple, which - surprise, surprise! - was a load of garbage.

Booby prize here was that I ended up finding somewhere to watch A Quiet Place, and have to agree with Nate's initial assessment. Glad I didn't end up seeing it in theatres, as even without expectations, it left a lot to be desired, I felt.

A Quiet Place is pretty much doomed by its giant plot-hole of a premise.

Sorry you had the same experience. :/ But other than the surround sound engineering, I just fail to see why people thought it was so good. Oh well - not the first time I've been disappointed by a movie, and certainly won't be the last!

... Watching “The Return of the Living Dead” right now.

I forget how well done it is. I mean, always a favorite, there aren’t many movies that keep me interested every second like ROTLD does. The music and sound, the actors, the set, the camera angles, the makeup and wardrobe, the props, lighting, all of it, it comes together in what I would call my ideal type of movie. And I feel like it’s Halloween.

We need more of this kinda horror these days...

... the rain after the crematorium smoke just started pouring on the graveyard... YEESSSS

After all the love and hype I finally watched Heredity and didn't really like it. As with Babaduk I found the family drama and emotional insanity to be too annoying.

I was just coming here to ask and say the same thing. I saw a trailer quite awhile ago and then forgot about it. Now it's showing up on all the VOD platforms, so my curiosity was raised again.

^ I wasn't as big on Turbo Kid as some were, but I'm still curious about what the collective came up with for the nostalgia crowd this time.

Speaking of nostalgia, I've recently had my Puppet Master cherry broken. I made it almost 30 years of knowing absolutely nothing about the franchise, but an offhand recommendation from @boon velvet that I have a look at the reboot, Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich, sent me back to the beginning. We've since had states-apart synchronized viewings of the first three installments, and it's been a pretty fun way of dipping into the birth of Full Moon. Nothing beats a shared couch when consuming eye garbage, but it's still great knowing that you're experiencing a fresh kill at the exact same moment as a pal. SB film night, anyone?

Reich, by the way, was a damn entertaining return to splatter for me. Practical effects from front to back, with more than enough inventive sadism to walk you through each elaborate demise. Everybody knew but me beforehand, probably, that the venture was spurred on and penned by the fellow that brought us Bone Tomahawk. Time well wasted.

Nor was I. Nor the Kung Fury thing.

I have not dipped my toe into the Puppet Master pool either, but it's interesting you mention it. My next podcast will be about Tourist Trap by David Schmoeller who wrote and directed the first PM.

In other news, @toothaction, our man Damon Herriman from Quarry is going to play Charles Manson in Tarantino's next. I loved Buddy!

@toothaction there were some really inventive kill scenes too! My faves were
the guy pissing on his own head, and when Charlyne Yi landed on the dumpster, the theater audience lost their shit on that one.

I highly recommend Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich if you're a fan of the franchise. Plus it was kinda cool to see Barbara Crampton come full circle by making a return 30 years after her appearance in the original.
