Not going to lie I wanted to buy this. He wanted $400, I laughed, told him he’s a bootlegger who steals other peoples hard work and that it even says “say no to high prices” he told me it’s a one off and that his prices are reasonable compared to the market. Fucking nut.

I actually asked Rich if he would be bummed if I bought it. Told me to go for it. I wanted it for the simple fact that it has a Nag head on Leviathan body and if I remember correctly Shig don’t like Rich or some shit like that.

Nothing at all personal against this toy, the maker, or anyone who appreciates it..... but, there is just so much going on with it. I am not sure if the artist was trying to incorporate something of every single element (in toys, as well as life) that they like and forcing them into some sort of three dimensional rendering, but it comes off as too hodgepodge. It is a miss/Ms. for me.

I'm not a huge fan of the Molly design either but for the record Erosion Molly is the head from Kenny Wong's 'Molly' figures with a body in Instinctoy's style, with the flowing liquid. It's a collab between artists with two very different styles. But yeah, too jarring for me as well.

I like this one even more. Great sculpting and design but I am not paying 400 bucks for it.

Those remind me of Stephen Gammell's illustrations from Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.

I just saw one of these posted on the Mandarake webshop. Its an alright toy but no way in hell am I going to pay 70,000 yen plus an additional 2,000 for shipping and handling.

Thought Chokehazard toys are dumb and boring, really dislike the stupid face on this bomb. Reminds me of a stupid drunk uncle at Mexican bbqs that can’t speak Spanish or English very well, but tries to use both in the same sentence, while trying to hold in explosive diarrhea.

I have one and quite enjoy it... Then again, I also got it for $200 at the Five Points sale, and it was the last "large" piece on my list to pick up. It actually looks really nice in person. Very nice vinyl and nice colors. My only problem with the piece is in this version, the "K" on the crown is a sticker, which is already peeling off a bit (I heard this is a relatively common issue).

I'm also a huge fan of Hiroto's style. With that said, I'm not really a fan of Kenny Wong's work, nor do I own any Molly characters not produced by Instinctoy. I concur that the Mandarake photo looks terrible, though.

Also, how can one not be a fan of the 'Finest United Convention for Kaiju'?!?!

I can't stand Kaijutan, but I guess he appeals to someone.

Shots fired! My friend tried to win me Toysbian lotto for the Monster Primary School set but no dice.
Really thought it is a fun and playful release, and would have looked great on my Autumn Stag Shelf.
Being mid-move, I haven't even been looking at the new releases. Plus, Black Sabbath 3 and DCon coming soon!

$500 for a debut figure? Over the top details? Harsh model-kit style paint app? Stiff looking expression on the face? Ridiculous re-post on instagram strategy for a lottery sale?

Everything about this figure points to chinese production - however, I noticed the entry email is a yahoo.jp address. So that really surprised me and got me thinking..

If it is actually made by a Japanese artist, they have totally missed the mark on this. I wouldn't be surprised if this cheap looking vinyl was produced in China.. the paint almost looks like acrylic model paint rather than a readily available japanese paint like v-color. If it is a chinese production (which I would bet $10 on given the checklist above), then that's just lame that they are using a yahoo.jp email address to try and decieve people about the figure's origins. Maybe I'm thinking too much about it. It is definitely the fugliest toy I've seen in a long time - regardless if it is produced in Japan, China, or anywhere else in the world. The sales strategy and possible deception is fuglier than the toy itself.

I wondered why it was getting reposted everywhere. Honestly I enjoy the design; it feels like a bit of a nod to Utsugiyo. But at that price, and knowing nothing about the quality of production, I can't get into it.

I assumed someone would post about this. My sentiment was quite similar to yours. I do like the little fish it comes with, and the detail on the top of the head is a cool concept, but the rest is definitely not for me. And $500 is just a crazy price. Still, seems he will sell out, so clearly he has the demand.

Honestly comparing everything below the neck to Beshimi it seems to lift heavily from that toy, but I don't know my history well enough to know who else has used that style in the past. They both have a monk as the omake figure too, which can't be a coincidence.

Bad Utsugiyo copy cat. The expression is so contrived i want to smack it across the face. Paint looks much sloppier than Utsugiyo as well. hope it comes with a wooden box so you feel less shafted.

I can’t stand these new “toy makers” that come right out the gate with these ridiculous prices. They’re capitalizing on hype beasts, which I can’t even say is the fault of the artist, but it seems like the major concern is getting the return on their investment back from molds and pulls. $500 on a first release of a new toy from an unknown maker is just such a bad form.
