I don't understand why some of these triple digit cock monster makers don't just skip the bullshit. To enter the lotto everyone should have to send in a dick pick, and the top of the pack gets the privilege to spend hundreds of bucks on a piece of plastic.

These quotes make me think English isn't their first language! . . . . 'nuff said!

Run sizes have always ben part of the sofubi/kaiju mystique. If you are purely buying shit on the grounds that it's über limited then really you're just a speculator which seems to suggest little love or passion for what you're buying.

    Don't believe the hype!

Seems like HxS might be getting close.

It appears that you need to supply your name/email and instagram handle in order to receive a lottery ticket just for the chance to buy something (anything) at the latest exhibition.

    But who watches the Watchmen?

I never could figure that one out. Do we blame the flippers and speculators for making some artists feel as though their price tag should be 5 times higher? Do we blame the artists for charging 5 times what they probably should and demanding buyers jump through laughable hoops just for a chance to throw fistfuls of money at them? Is it new Chinese makers fault that they try to emulate the most popular toy makers out there or collectors fault for making that bullshit so popular in the first place? The so-called "high-end" part of this hobby just keeps eating itself and growing back at the same time. It will be fun to see the day when the only people buying $500 dollar toys are the ones making $500 toys and they realize no one else is paying attention anymore.

In a hobby where everyone wants to be Nag I hope we get a few more people trying to be Bwana and Grody.

Cost is a culmination of artists trying to making a living and what collectors are willing to pay in a simulated market.
Factor in R&D and production costs... prices go up.

An artist selling a toy they can make in-house for the price an American artist has to pay import and materials on... that’s a stretch. Though the quality on some of the Chinese vinyl toys is really good.

hard time justifiing 500$. Shit. ...

Chinese are able to run in the market because in reality, they make most of the toys. Wasn’t medicom outsourcing to china? And arnt the VAG minis made in China? Yet... it’s considered sofubi.

Japanese production times have become unrealistic and rely upon lean manufacturing systems.

Next toy I make is coming from China no doubt.

Let us bicker on line and hug in person!

Turns out all you guys were just being debbie downers. Instead of being a preorder it was an extremely limited release of only 50 at a measly 500 bucks a pop. I don't know how many people deleted their #nokaidan99 repost, but as of right now there is only 6 posts with that tag.

Medicom makes tons of stuff in China including Pushead toys and all the vinyl artist gatcha stuff.

Japanese production times can be very long but so can Chinese production times if you are getting quality vinyl from a good factory. In the past I've waited over a year for Japanese production and well over 2 years for stuff from China.

The Chinese places that will do production really quickly and bump out other projects if you throw more money at them tend to have poor quality control. Or even worse you could end up like that prolific Chinese toy maker that recently found out another toy maker who was using the same factory was taking all there leftovers/test pulls/color samples/defect toys and selling them on the side.

Back to slagging off toys someone took time to make but you still think are shit, innit. People are falling over themselves to praise the 'detail' on this one. Detail doesn't make a bad toy good, you know.

^^ id wear gloves if i had to touch that shite too!

Chiwen looks to me like a rip-off of Gamaotoko crossed with MVH Dokuro. It even has another face on the reverse like Dokuro. Its following that shorter, chunkier style that is trendy nowadays. The thing looks like someone making something to fit with current hyped toys rather than making something original or different.

No worries, Taviq. I’m not one of these people that will stay silent just because you buy from me. Of course I appreciate you following thru with the shh lotto tho! But it’s about the community being able to continue, not just me. Think this to yourself as deeply as you can - “What if every person buying believed they have the right to refuse after winning any toy lottery?” Hopefully you’ll see what kind of person that is and not want to be him... But if you cannot see the reason to put people that are doing that in their place, then I can’t help you however it’s put. And Taviq, if someone acts like an asshole, eventually someone is going to treat you like an asshole. How you thought you could say that, here of all places, and not get the appropriate response of dislike, made me actually think you were trolling, cause it was so backwards.

Anyway, the fact that you look at my reply to you, where I also specifically pointed out that those comments only apply, “If you were actually doing that”, and in the following you can’t be humble about it , then to also block me, just backs all that up.

What, are you going to say, “I don’t like Boon because he told me to funk off if I was breaking lottery commitments? Even though I said some stuff that not only suggested that I might do it, but then also defended myself by replying that it was my right to not pay whenever I wanted to and Even Then replied insinuating a blame on the other person for being unjustifiablly hostile.”

Okay.. I’ve heard you reply enough times now. Especially if you were collecting from me, I’m glad I know not to bother with your nonsense. Just be sure that when you say that boon’s a poop head, that you say why.

IF it is true however , that you have yet to withdraw from a lottery winning, Good, I don’t understand why so defensive then but please keep up the good work of supporting your artists by following thru with your commitments...

It seems silly to even have to say that. I mean, am I wrong? Is this how things are done now in the ever changing scene? Seriously, is this is a young attitude thing or Do people think that entering a lottery and winning isn’t the privilege that it used to be? Is this part of the changing atmosphere where there are so many toys to choose from that there’s a certain desensitization at present? I genuinely want to hear feedback about this.
As much as it seems to make sense, you can’t just go by the nice factor tho. Because that should have been decided before entering for 1, but also, anyone can be nice. The first thing people say when someone does something wrong is , “But they were so nice”. You’re not going to let someone into your house to then be robbed if they weren’t nice enough for you to let them in. Most artist are nice people anyhow, and even flippers can be nice people which is why some are so welcome and even friends with the artist(s). Haha, and I’m Nice and even stuck up for @taviq on here before and now after sticking up for everyone, I’m blocked by him.

And Glenn , do we know if it was an actual scam? I haven’t heard that. Cause otherwise what does it matter what anyone thinks about the toy After entering the lottery , After already saying they liked it and agreeing to buy it? Changing your mind afterwards because you don’t like the toy anymore is the #1 No no for withdrawal... Besides, people have a Lot to say about this toy and maker , and whether or not I believe it, none of it has actually been proven in a way for anyone to warrant not being a nice guy themselves and funking the artist over. There’s nothing that says you have to continue supporting any artist afterwards tho.

But just because money hasn’t traded hands doesn’t mean you can back out. Or maybe it does now, I don’t know. When someone can suggest it on Sb without a mob getting “hostile” for the Right reasons, there’s clearly a new order I’m not privy to yet.
I wholeheartedly agree! It seems like so many people make sofvi now think that’s a requirement tho. I even heard a fairly well known newer maker say on Instagram, “Smooth toys have no soul.” It could have been sarcasm in response to his hyper detailed toys, but I didn’t think so at the time.

No ill will towards that creator, I just think it’s interesting that he might think that is true, especially amongst the likes of many people practicing that same belief in styling with their toys. I have so many toy plans I have long wanted to see into fruition and honestly I question how many people other than myself would even appreciate them now like they would have 10 years ago. It’s one thing to do it because you love it, but there must also be a market for the toy to keep it healthy and alive.

You are not wrong, and that's how i took the original post as well:
And I won. But I've already spent a bunch on toys this month. If this has a large run or is an open order, it definitely doesn't feel worth it. I mean, what actually feels worth five hundred bucks?

Anyone who enters a lottery and then tries to back out is a douche at worst and very annoying at best. Same goes for idiots who try to back out of ebay wins / SB sales thread claims too. Its just not cricket, old chap.

Of course its all a matter of opinion and taste, but anyone who makes sweeping statements like that is just looking for attention by saying something divisive. I think it may have something to do with a lot of these newer hyped toys being designed digitally, instead of sculpted by hand. Maybe there is more of a temptation to keep going back and adding more and more detail because you can, rather than sculpting something by hand organically. Personally, too much detail stops a toy looking like Sofubi and makes it look more like a model or 'Art' toy (or a toy kids play with).

Thank You for blocking me @taviq . It’s not surprising after everything else you’ve said that you would do that.

Ha, and just so everyone knows what “threats” you’re referring too, there have been no private messages from me anywhere! He’s just crying “Threat” about what I said a page or 2 ago which summed up was IF TAVIQ WAS WITHDRAWING FROM LOTTOS AFTER WINNING that I would have 0 problem passing his name on to the artists he collects. Haha, the funny thing about this is that blocking me is Exactly the move just to keep me from seeing what artists he collects.

You don’t seem to realize that this has nothing to do with me, @taviq . I’m just the one who was first to call you out. As soon as you typed those words, any artist on Sb sees what you wrote. There could be a topic going up Right now, with no words other than yours with certain phrases highlighted. So let me guess what you’re going to do next? Delete or change your comment maybe?

But most importantly now - So I’m Threatening You?! If I knew you were flipping or you have made false lottery entries and I passed that on to another artist, that’s called looking out for each other. I suppose my mistake was voicing that I might do that because part of me thought you were just going to say that you were kidding around and so it wouldn’t be an issue anyway.

Boy am I glad that you chimed I’m with that nonsense though, @taviq. You showed your true colors to everyone online who may come across it and I would also hate for anyone who really wanted a toy to lose out to someone with an attitude like yours.

Cry threat all you want, the evidence is all in plain sight, so everyone has the same access to how “horribly” I treated you as you do. Move on already!

And I have to say it - Forgive me for replying on this again, everyone. I’m long sick of it and hate carrying on with negative topics not going anywhere. I intended to leave it as was, because @taviq had already made his view clear enough and there was nothing left to say,.. But I’m not going to read that I’m “threatening someone” and not respond. The irony of that statement is kinda funny though.

As long as he doesn’t say that he’s suing me for defamation of character, I think I can shut up now.

OH, something stupid but kinda funny, so I said this as part of my first post to Taviq, a few pages over - “If you Have Actually canceled out of a lotto just because you changed your mind, the only Fuck You here deserved goes to You! If every asshole thought like that , makers wouldn’t be able to do this.” ... Soo, when I said that, I thought we were in the FU thread. It’s 2018 and I still don’t know what thread I’m in

I can see your point about digital sculpting and it makes clear sense to me. It takes a learn-ed eye to know when to call a design finished and without something tangible in front of you, there could certainly be that temptation. Of course we know there are makers that like to cover their toys in detail that aren’t sculpted digitally, but it is interesting that digital sculpting and hyperstylized soft vinyl seemed to hit their stride around the same time.

Funny enough though, the fella who made that comment is all hands and clay.

Its a bit of a weird comment then, but he's entitled to say whatever he wants. Still sounds like something to say just to get a reaction, to draw attention to yourself. Personally i like my Sofubi rough around the edges - i would say . . . . detailed toys have no soul. Haha. The more detailed the more mass-produced they look to me. I like it when you can see thumb-prints etc.
