^ Me and the Canadian disagree, but I feel comfortable speaking for him that we're both happy that you enjoyed your time in front of the television.

You disagree that I liked it? Who the hell is the Canadian?

Just taking a piss, I'm fully aware it doesn't have many fans here, but that's the great thing about movies. Hell, some people don't even like Dead & Buried. The assholes.

One thing that I really dislike about this software platform that we switched to is that you can't tell that the page has flipped over until it's already too late... let's pretend that I quoted the relevant passage from your post that I was responding to, ha!

    Me and the Canadian agree.

You and this mysterious Canadian disagree that it's worth a watch then? I'm still confused.

Maybe you, the Canadian, and I can agree that Ghost Stories is pretty much a mess?

The royal we didn't have a look at Ghost Stories... but we agree that the you should be able to visually tell when you've flipped a page on SB 2.0 and that you shouldn't waste your time with Summer of '84! DEVIL FACE EMOJI

The past of week has been focused mostly on schlock, but finally got around to Mandy. Favorite N Cage overeaction line - 'you ripped my shirt'. Moral of story - don't do acid w/ demonic nare-do wells.

There were a couple of other aspects that I found quite compelling as well when I had a look (and another look, and then another) as a 13-year-old boy.

I think you did an absolutely wonderful job at summing up this very, very special movie in three sentences. My favorite part was when
Cage finds that grimy jar of the über-acid that turned everybody into Charles Manson ("...and they're fucking loving it!"), dips his finger for a taste and immediately goes (even more) insane.
    Also: "You're a vicious snowflake!!"
Also also: To everyone writing elaborate "reviews" on how Mandy is an enigmatic masterpiece that confounds you to no end - you're all gooey fucktards.

Agreed. Halloween was PERFECT. I am looking forward to see where the next one takes the story.

Ghost Stories had its drawbacks, as I've noted. Sort of formulaic, and not as much within the 'scary horror' genre as fitting more into, well, whatever you might classify Tales from the Unexpected or Twilight Zone as. It could have been something interesting, but as it was, was just sort of an average film to pass the time. I've been really against Martin Freeman for some time though (which is I guess unfortunate?) so he raised himself very slightly out of the muck.

A budget and someone with attention/research skills, or heck, who was even alive in the '80s, would have made Summer of '84 a heck of a lot better (purely for nostalgia's sake mind, but at least that would have been something).

Haven't been able to see Mandy yet, but based on the recommendations here I am giving it efforts.

Also, finally finished Hill House. Meh. The more they told you, the less you wanted to know. I get that the novel was twisted from the point of psychological mystery, but I don't think the show ever even considered that angle. As a result, if you are going to embrace the full horror/ghost haunting aspect of it, then do so. Don't just half-ass it and try to make it all family drama, over-explanations, and repetition. The show could have done with some serious editing, and I mean multiple episodes could have been cut with shortening. I understand it is harder to draw out a story to fill an entire season of a show, but that doesn't mean you just fill it with fluff and shoddy meanderings. Honestly, there is more of a 'horror' aspect to Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. At least they got some effects in there.

Okay, I'll give you that! Well timed and executed, with totally earned thematic resonance. A rare bird, indeed.

Guess I must've dozed off at that point. Because, while I can think of a few occasions where this might have been in the show, nothing made such an impression on me that it immediately comes to mind now.

Episode 8, when the sisters are driving to the house. You should probably just rewatch all 10 hours of the series today, those 2 seconds are that good! ;)

Seriously, though, I was as shocked that such a standout moment was somehow snuck in there as you are suspicious that it actually happened, ha.

Anybody else watch Devil-Doll for the hundredth time on Halloween? No? Lonely world we got here.

@evom - Good to know that you're enjoying it. I'd made the knee-jerk decision to ignore CZ this year, but maybe now I catch up instead.

My wife jumped about two feet off the couch and the cat went flying. I may have shrieked a tiny bit with that one. We laughed for about ten minutes afterward.

Watching The Beast Within for the 2nd time in as many years. Not sure why I passed this one up during my weekly video store visits in the '80s, I think I would have loved it. It's got that weird mix of classy/sleazy I kinda dig with the added benefit of some bonkers bladder effects at the end. I mean a cicada monster? What's not to love?

I was finally able to see The Endless. A different style to Resolution (and Spring too, for that matter), but still executed with the same keen excellence I think. I am not sure I enjoyed it quite as much, mainly I think because I feel the 'linking' would have worked better as a subtle nod, versus half-sequel, but still thought it was very good. Considering what these guys can achieve with their budgets; this is the quintessential indie fillmmaking for me - it doesn't suffer itself for the sake of being 'arty' or pretense(iousness). Many questions of course, probably to which I don't want any answers. It deserves some more viewings. Needless to say I am very keen to see more work from Benson & Moorhead.

Seems like it's been forever and a day since I watched one of those "special" films I dig so much. But one that's been on my watchlist for awhile finally popped up on Prime today, and it did not disappoint (although the third act does drag a bit it ends on a high note).
It's got a gorgeous lead, a great, creepy opening, the dude who plays Mr. Winchester in Summer School, an evil/deformed twin, a puppet rottweiler, gaslighting of the female lead, a strange score, and Donny Most's (future) wife! Directed by the man who gave us the horribly-awesome Exorcist rip-off Beyond the Door. Would make an awesome double-feature with Happy Birthday To Me.
    Check out Madhouse! https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093468/
