@siphilon That’s a huge bummer, man, I’m sorry to hear. I hope something might be able to change last minute and you end up bein’ able to come hang!
Hey LA Skullbrainers, how are the wild fires affecting travel to LA? I saw Malibu has been evacuated now. Any flight issues, do you have any concerns of them being problematic for visitors.
i know parts of pch are closed because of the malibu fires and its looking like its creeping towards the san fernando valley but LAX and surrounding cities shouldnt be affected except for traffic maybe on the 101. but i feel like from lax to the 5 to head towards anaheim should be regular bad traffic lol
Yeah I'm driving from SF all the way down on the 5. I suspect that it will be the usual boring drive...
New Devilman colorway and one-offs by UNBOX/Sutfin at Designercon 2K18 Toy collaboration TBA Mondo Toy Booth 2219 Saturday NOV 17th, 2PM Thnx!!
Stop by booth #1402 if you are coming to DCON. Last Hurrah Records will be helping out the Swamp booth - www.swampco.com Come see lots of silkscreen gig posters and serigraphs as well as a host of surprises and colored vinyl records!
i feel this might be the year that the flipper brigade fully infiltrates on a massive level. Thoughts?
I'm pretty sure last year was about 90% infiltration and this year has been hyped quite a bit more. New, bigger, venue. Lots more exhibitors. Hopefully not, but time will tell. Even so, Dcon is still my favorite event of the year.
Very excited for this year, hopefully the lines aren't too out of hand and I'm sure it'll remain fun, definitely looking to be a good time! If you're gonna be there and we haven't met, we should definitely chit-chat, always nice to make new friends and all that jazz!
Oh, you needn’t the face for starting the thread, David. I think it was a relatively constructive conversation, but everyone’s trepidation for even uttering who actually ran the booth suggested to me that literally nothing was going to actually be said/done about it. But a good conversation nonetheless. So I think you did the boards a service in creating a dialogue. As far as the Instagram - esque questionaire of “thoughts”, I don’t think it’ll be any different than Five Points, in terms of droves of flippers. It’s slowly turning into an SDCC mini of sorts in my opinion, and the exposure, while not necessarily bad, will also expose flippers from other facets of collecting into potentially flipping sofubi. I’d like to think artists are pretty mindful, though, and keep watch for who they know is/isn’t there for what’s considered the right reasons. Bearing all of that in mind, I’m right alongside David in, that, this is still my favorite event of the year. Three days of getting to see faces I otherwise never get to is an absolute treat all on its own. The toys, though greatly enjoyed, is just merchandise to the memories I’m lucky enough to come home with.
Guess you'll just have to wait and see how many over the top flower bouquets are left in front of the entrance of the event with hyped toy wishlists pinned to them
