I doubt it is the same mold from two different manufacturers. The same company likely produced them both, the header and backer are just generic ones that came with a few different toys. The header only reads "kaiju series" so that was used on a lot of figures.

For comparison, you can see the blue-chested version on backing with the other artwork here:

And as well for reference, this photo of a Lion Maru boot (borrowed from Lixx) also has the second artwork style:

If anything would make a substantial price difference, it would be whether the figure had the removable mask or not, but as far as I am aware, only the gold chested ones have it, while the regular versions came in both gold and blue.

Finally can check this long want off my list. Props to @ultrakaiju for noticing on Mandarake and alerting me. I could not have added it to my cart fast enough. Never really comes up for auction and when it does absolute bidding wars break out sending the price sky-rocketing. Pretty decent shape I might add as well (just 3 minor tiny stains on back). I've seen much worse go for much more. 16000 yen? Steal IMO especially with the exchange rate these days.

Excuse the grainy pics. I'm still learning on this new Nikon. I refuse to use a flash (hate flash) and indoors it sets the ISO so high (12800). I adjusted the ISO sensitivity to max out at 1600 but it only works on manual mode and then I get just a dark photo with no objects on indoor shots. I guess I need a lightbox :(

Maybe @lurker can answer this question: Curious how the wings attached on these smaller versions? Was it some sort of sticky tape? I though for sure there would be a small knob or something.

You know I was kind of annoyed with that for literally one second and I laughed at myself outloud saying "Are you crazy when are you getting another chance at this mini for that price?" I now think it adds some charm.

Great score Chris, I know you've been looking for one of these for a long time.:twisted:
Plus you took it for a decent price, because in JPY always end up very high.

Hell YES. That is one superb toy Lixx, so amazing and thrilled that he arrived now. I mean, really, do I need to say any more about how great he is? I don't think so. And anyone still in doubt had only to look at that photo; any discerning toy collector can see what an excellent figure it is. And I am wholly on the side of loving the wonky eyes and character. Double thumbs way, waayyy up.

And for all those new to the hobby, and still too busy chasing the latest thing or art toy lotteries, let this be a lesson in how diligence, patience, and dedication to the hobby pay off. A wonderful addition to your collection Lixx, congratulations.

Thanks everyone! Super happy to land this toy. Big big thank you to @ultrakaiju, because had I not woke up early that day and saw his pm a little less than hour after he wrote it- this would surely have been long gone. It was just one of those perfect storms you have once in a blue moon in the toy world where funds are available, the toy you have been after pops up, and somebody was kind enough to alert you to it!

A couple of days ago ended the auction of this pair of Devilman bootleg for 43,500 yen which I think is a fair price considering that the mini Devilman is in perfect condition, the standard size Devilman would be a plus for me.

Thank you Mark, but unfortunately I’m not the lucky winner, but for the minis that I have seen in the past, it’s a fair price for the Devilman pair.

That is a really lovely duo. The mini is such a great toy, I'd be just as in love with his derpy face if these guys were a dime a dozen.

Thanks for saving those pics for us, Roger.

@Alebrije awesome posting too bad about the auction. I have never seen this little dogface in the wild...but the price looked like a good deal for them both. that is a golden chest large devilman did it had a mask?

I have seen a couple of those mini dog face at auctions, most without wings or not in very good condition and regularly go between 35,000 ¥ and up to 60,000 ¥ depending on the conditions and whether it comes with wings or without them. That's why I think that this is a very fair price for this pair, as @bryce_r says, it seems to me that this mini Devilman never was played, this seller regularly auctioned vintage figures especially bootles so I think it can be a deadstock and the Devilman Standard is a plus for me. The standard figure is not the version with removable mask, always this version when it is packed comes with the mask on one of the arms, I imagine to make it more attractive for the children of those times.

I think that it is the first one that I see it in the original bag, the auction ended a couple of weeks ago and went for: 250,000 yen
Note: I have the impression that the figure if it was played, that the wings are repro and that the seller in some part got the headercards and put all together to give it at a higher price.

I hope the seller knew what he was bitting cos I would be upset as shit to know that wings are not vintage...it would make me question the whole toy the bag looks new and the backing card looks to perfect...but then I have never seen a complete one in person.

I think it is very likely that the seller knew all this, my theory is that the seller was completing the figure, that somewhere found the headeracard alone and probably the devilman is a piece that already had, but without wings, he did a repro , put everything together and ready. It went from having a figure of 80,000 ¥ to one of 250,000 ¥.

@Alebrije - I agree with your assessment. There are also multiple staple holes on the header card, which looks like an obvious re-packaging. The wear on the doll itself is enough of a clue that this is not an unopened item.

That was a shady auction all around. He relisted it several times after getting decent bids each. I wonder if the winner was even legit.
