OK I had to play catch up before I could really sit down and comment.
So I have a weird twist on both perspectives of the show.
This was the debut of my new Witch Doctor Toy. David (Animator) was awesome enough to let me show at his booth and asked me when I would like to sell. I thought about this and it was very clear to me that being a small blip on the sofubi radar it would be smart to jump ahead of the mayhem and sell Friday. I figured having them out the entire time would be the best way to ensure a good chunk of them would sell. That said like everyone else I can say 60% of my product sold Friday. I probably sold 10% on Saturday and the last 30% on Sunday. This doesn't shock me at all. Im not going to compete with Pus Paul or Rich thats a fools game. As someone who collects those artists I knew Saturday was going to be insane. I was super disappointed at how stacked everything was time wise on Saturday. I wanted to be in more places then one on multiple occasions and some may recall watching me run back and forth from the MVH line like a crazy person. I think Ecko made a good point about splitting days and booths I think it would help to clear up the confusion. I can say that Joe selling on Friday made life way easier for me as he is a primary of my collection and getting to check that off was for sure a sigh of relief scenario.
Security was ignorant and incapable of there jobs. no concept of what they were doing.
So all of that said I will continue to go to DCON but it has for sure lost its luster for me. I will go knowing i'm there for headaches as much as i am friends and toys.
That said we need a new low key con or two. We need something that is more about the interaction and the scene then it is just about getting all the things. Dcon is the new SDCC Five points is the new NYCC. So we need a new DCON and a new Five points. those can be the easy fly in tourist city big number shows that are flipper friendly. Lets have two shows that are non coastal non touristy places that are easy on the wallet to visit and the con is small intimate and still worth the trip. something thats just as much about scoring a piece as it is hanging out with friends you never see except once or twice a year.
If you want to talk about this more PM me I'm serious about making it happen.
Also thanks to anyone who bought grabbed or looked at the witch doctor all of that means the world to me in a building where its one toy in a million.

Atlanta is on the coast but Kaiju Cult fits this description otherwise

I see kaiju cult as a group show, not as a convention. It's wayyyy too small.

And if people will fly from Taiwan to LA or New York, what makes you think they wouldn't fly to Atlanta?

I vote Denver.. It’s in the middle of the country, there are tons of breweries and good eats and weed is legal. Plus it’s an awesome city with tons of stuff to do!

Yeah it is a group show but it’s only in its 2nd year. And people can fly anywhere? Not sure what you mean there

Someone said we need to make it away from the big coastal cities and I was implying I didn't think it would change much

Well one could argue that cities like LA/NY or Anaheim or SD have so much to offer that people have twice the incentive to go. Like If im going to these places I get other things. We have a PK show every year here in Albuquerque and only the die hards seem to come.

I could be wrong for sure, but I think that its because you're comparing a group show to a convention. I think if there was a convention in Albuquerque that rivaled 5pts, it would draw at least a comparable crowd.

I only go cause Frontier is across the street ;)

Dcon was fun, I did feel like I was running all over the place most of Saturday but Friday was nice and chill imo. I tend to get anxious at big events so another smaller type of event would be right up my alley. Kudos to the artists putting up with all that goes into making a dcon appearance, I can only imagine its a small nightmare for most.

    That's the plan.

Right now we're focused on building the name and scene more. At DCON a lot of artists told us we were the best gallery they've ever dealt with. We want to make this fun for all involved first and foremost and not just figure out the quickest way to extract the most amount of money.

The goal is to build up our reputation more and make it a fun experience for artists and fans alike. We have some unique opportunities and partnerships that no one else can really offer I am not quite at liberty to talk about yet.

Keep in mind Atlanta has something from a travel perspective that makes it very unique, it's the busiest airport on the planet AND real estate is still cheap. You can get here and stay here cheaper than you could most other places, generally speaking.

Hey now... Always pains me not to be there (same goes for the Gunnzo event). Best believe I run the numbers for both potential trips year after year.

ABQ-wise: smaller airport = considerably higher air fare. Couple that with food, lodging, transportation etc. (not to mention setting $$$ aside for a gallery 1-off or micro run) and the trip adds up quick. For one-night shows it's incredibly hard to justify the cost involved.
    Hence the annual Dcon pilgrimage.

I do like your idea of the low-key con though. Would suggest Baltimore, but NOBODY in their right mind wants to travel here ;)

Only been there was once, but it was alright. Little 5P was pretty cool.

L5P and EAV are the hot spots, most definitely.

Ideally for those who are traveling I would do something special to make their trip worth it. I was thinking of adopting MVH's RSVP system. I think those that honor their word and are willing to travel deserve some level of recompense for their efforts

i thought dcon was whacky and wild but it was bound to happen in my opinion with the growing demand for these artists. im a big fan of group shows and am willing to go out of my way for these guys. driving to SD, ABQ, or flying to CT. i thought five points this year was fun and it was tiny and cool. with some really good artists! but if there was a new con i could picture myself just saving up to attend group shows and dcon/5points instead

@smurph get yer ass down here so we can hang out!

We have a quite a collection of solid breweries in ATL now.

Tons of fantastic places to eat.

But the traffic is fucked

I think Chris and Wondergoblin will definitely keep growing the kaijucult show here in ATL; it was really nicely done this year.

Atlanta is getting to be a cooler city with every passing year. It helps if you come here prepared to mostly Uber it around town, that will save you a ton of stress.
