After reading @brianflynn s recent post maybe we need a thread like this to right the ship. Things are getting a bit unsavoury on the boards - and I've been fanning the flames for sure so here's an attempt to bring toys back to SB! Rules are: Show off the Top 5 toys you've scored in 2018 - doesn't matter if the toy itself was produced in 2010, as long as it joined your collection this year, feel free to include it! Here's mine: View this post on Instagram View this post on Instagram View this post on Instagram View this post on Instagram View this post on Instagram
I’ve gotten a hold of so many goddamn good things this year, it’s unbelievable. It’ll be extremely difficult to pick just five, but I’ll definitely try and get back to this thread. Those are some choice pieces, Glenn, but that TE Baby Zag definitely takes the standout position!
I wish I could.. Although the Kai Hammer and King Smog would take up 80% of one shelf all together! Don't worry, I'm hoping to do a huge rotation this week
It is hard for me to quantify happiness, and I'd say 2018 is my favorite year of collecting so far. I have no right to complain about anything, looking at the year in retrospect. As far as pure happiness from either learning I could buy it , or receiving and unpacking, I'm gonna hand it off to these guys... 2018 had an amazing start, with RecycleC New Year's Lottery, and the Winter lottery for King Korpse. I went to Monstrosities and the Refreshment Toy Pop-up at Myplasticheart. It had a lovely Spring, with my first MVH show and Five Points Fest. In the Summer, I acquired the Golden Dogura, which I thought I would never get to see. And in the Fall, I had an amazing time at BS3, and then at DCon I had a great spot in MVH lotto. To top it all off, I won my first lottery from Utsugiyo for the IWF Black Friday set.
I think I only landed about 5 toys this year, so I guess my list made itself! Now I just have to remember to corral them together while the sun is up.
I still have some pieces that are still in transit so I'll have to wait a few more days to make my list of the top 5.
I really admire the discipline some of our fellow collectors have. In this hobby, it is amazing how one can limit to only a handful of purchases within a year. This reminds me that I need to seriously reflect ...
It's pretty easy when the lines that originally pulled you into the world of sofubi are on the decline and being replaced by the shite and shenanigans that pervade the current 'scene!'
What Andy said, and also it has less to do with discipline and more to do with finances... or the lack thereof. Lol. It’s so expensive nowadays, I don’t know how some folks manage to collect so much.
Here are my top 5 scores of 2018. most of them are grails that I have been looking for quite some time.
I’m enjoying most everyone’s choices so far. @shincartoon tho. That sure is a refreshing list and something I wasn’t expecting to see in this thread. There’s no doubt that you collect what you like . I have a love for sd finger pupps too and need to find that Kamen Rider. That chartreuse color really draws the eye, even among those bigger fellas. Thanks for sharing em. It’s a nice lot, with my favorites being the KR and Goji.
it was made by Hazawa Gumi 羽沢組 it is the Megaro-Goji released in 2012, I love him too! There is also a teeth version and a open mouth version, and different colors to choose from. @boon velvet Thank you so much for the kind words. I love finger puppets~! more than half of my sofubi collection consist of finger puppet size sofubi.
not following the rules, but photographed just about everything the postwoman has delivered in the second half of 2018 (tiny collage best viewed on a larger screen): View this post on Instagram
Heres mine First big get of 2018 was this custom Deathra Rampage toys custom Pigumon that I picked up at 5 points (this pic was also my entry into the rampage toys photo contest). Got super lucky with my Gargamel lucky bag this year Couple of months ago I scored my first Miborah And my luckiest get of the year was my Buta Griffin
Some cool Pus and Shirahama schwag showed up during 2018 but most has been boxed up and stashed out of the way for the ensuing Christmas chaos. These guys are some of the most recent and still make the top 10 . . . One of the last few remaining Gatchagons needed (please hit me up if you're moving any of the rarer versions). Classic RxH in hyper-glitter with paint and a rub . . . subtle it isn't! When planets align, and an offer turns up when Paypal has spare funds sat in it. Had these guys sat in my cart for 3 months before realising they would complete the AstroBrain shelf and finally hitting 'Complete Order'.! A stoopid but fun bit of nonsense from NYCC via one of the good-guys! Just because . . .
A couple of nice finds as 2018 comes to a close. This was a total, and unexpected, surprise. A secret release from the debut of the first RxH minis was this Chaosman with special 'swirly scarf'. Supposedly only 2 given out, but who really knows. One of Kiyoka's customs from the Gargamel show at Rotofugi at the end of 2010, which, strangely enough, came to me from Japan. I remember being amazed by the 'full color' style of this custom Randall, and then being blown away by the eye-watering price. Years later, it shows up in Japan at a pretty good discount. Strange times these are.
Really tough one, but narrowed it down to... Vintage Bullmark King Maimai Butas: Rainbow Postman, Red/Gold Eryops, Alien Zarab Set (since it's a set, I counted it as "one") Buta Cat Tanks (er... yes, it's a set! )
A terrible year for everything apart from toys a friend visited Tokyo and was able to get me some Aimodo and Mirock, the Missle Robot turned up on Ebay UK.The gods of customs and shipping blessed me with Gumtaro's new Succulent Kaiju Gobira just in time for solstice. various by i thorn, on Flickr gobira by i thorn, on Flickr
