Hopefully some HXS news or photos can surface to unclog the flow of this thread.

Unfortunately photo sharing is a lost art on most of SB in 2018, and still more so when it comes to the world of HxS toys (and others). I think that is almost exclusively reserved for the fanhypebeastprayhighfivingsellforum that is Instagram.

    @ultrakaiju

Back in the 'good old days' of SB, I recall Geotaro being verbally attacked for posting photos, which were all beautiful.

Not shocking as to whom that was.

I am not sure what your point there is? That because someone, at some point in the past made a comment about some photos, no one should share on the forum anymore? That no one should bother to contribute to this community? Personally I still come here to appreciate what people share, and I hope that they continue to do so.

This place is what you make it, ultimately. If you choose to bring a positive view here, share, discuss, and generally enjoy toys, then that is what it will be. If you don't, then it won't.

It speaks to a different point that you asserted, that IG is causing folks to no longer post here.

Geotaro in this point of reference was basically run off the board for posting "too many" photos years ago.

IG did not exist back when Geotaro posted photos. SB lost a good continuing member back then.

Trolls and bullies did that, not IG

Folks today are fixated by IG but I would think contribution here would be at it's easiest in history as a result.

    Lazy would be a guess.

You seem to have overlooked my sincere hope that any news or photos can be added to this thread.

    Clear?

Oh no, I totally understand and agree with what you're saying, I do hope people come back to posting more regularly here. It is incredibly unfortunate and regrettable that people have left the board, or feel reluctant to take part here, for any reason at all. So I join you in hoping that participation here does increase.

I was also just trying to suggest that not giving in to bullying or trolling culture is the best way to keep this place a good an open one, where people are comfortable, and even happy, to take part in the forum discussions.

That was the first thing that crossed my mind. I have a feeling these will be a difficult come up, but then again, so were the originals for me, as are the newer ones now! Looks amazing.

Would look pretty cool with a SecretBase Deka Skullbee. But will likely never see it, since most of the deep pocket collectors, probably wouldn't even have one since there's no hype behind it.

What I hate the most, is, lots of people don’t even care, maybe even know, that it’s Takeshit and Cosmo Liquid. It’s just pulled by Hirota, so they want it for that. Same thing happened with the resurgence of the Pilot Ace trio of sculpts. Got pulled and painted by Hirota, and that’s all people hashtag ‘em as. :( Now, granted, I have no idea who sculpted this new giant ass Fink Shit, could’ve been Hirota. But I doubt it.

A few years back I had the door open to move one of my molds to Hirota. I hem and haw’d for a while, eventually deciding that it would just become ‘another Hirota-made toy,’ and saying ‘thanks, but no thanks.’ I honestly don’t regret that at all, but sometimes wonder where that would have led.

I like my current people - they are genuine, fun, reliable and affordable. ‘Nuff said.

@JMRampage I don’t doubt you would have gotten all of the aforementioned with Hirota, sans maybe the affordable aspect, only ‘cause I have no idea how he operates. But I’d personally worry too much about my toys being more about who’s pulling them than who’s sculpting and painting them. If it’s a future possibility I’d say why not. Otherwise, if there’s really no reason to, or urgency, there’s no need to fix what isn’t broken.

Hirota pulls for others covertly and pricing remains ‘unhyped’.

It seems that using the ‘Pulled by Hirota’ line is often a marketing ploy employed by the artists to generate more interest and piggy-back the HS fanbase.

The fact (in some instances) the toy becomes more about the manufacturer than the artist probably speaks volumes.

Up-sized Fink looks great but the little guy infront catches my attention. .
Wishful thinking but Go Medicom, Hirota :)

I didn’t even take to noticing no glasses, but he’s definitely got gloves. If you look at the right hand you can see the “fingerless” glove lines over the middle of his flanges. The top of the left hand looks like a sap glove.

Agreed, but Pilot Ace toys are great in their own right sans any involvement from Hirota. Although the toys he was involved with did look nice.

EDIT: I think I wrote the above while half asleep and buzzed. To your point more directly, yes- in most cases the toys from other makers should speak for themselves without mentioning Hirota’s involvement.

I think there are exceptions there; if a run is going to be unpainted/marbled, I like to know who is pulling the vinyl, since that is a big step in the artistic process when it comes to marbled unpainted releases. I want to know to satisfy the nerd in me, not for hype-related reasons.

I personally find Cosmo Liquid’ s sculpts more interesting and compelling than the majority of Hirota’s.

Theirin lies the misnomer . . . there is no 'artistic process', it's not a black-art or a creative marvel that has to be mastered over a lifetime . . . it's squeezing two or three bottles of vinyl into the mould rather than just one!

Sure, it takes fractionally longer. Sure, there are some hits and misses, and sure, you probably get better over time . . . but it ain't rocket science or brain surgery and the end result is usually more down to luck than judgement.

Okay...I’ve seen some really shitty marbled vinyl in my day. And I’ve seen some fantastic marbling. Call it whatever you want, I’m interested in who makes my toys the majority of the time. Otherwise I’d be collecting dunnays.

With the garbage that passes for “art” these days across the spectrum of human experience, I am personally 100% comfortable in calling some of the marbling out there an “artistic process”. If you’re not, that’s cool.

If it’s so easy to do and akin to flipping a burger, why are you even personally interested in multiple toy lines that rely heavily on marbling? It’s a visually appealing aesthetic in toys that’s a combination of luck and skill of the practitioner. Not to mention color choices. But heaven forbid we call label it anything remotely construed as art.

I get that labeling any of these toys as art is a way for opportunists to inflate prices and create hype. But that ship sailed long ago.

EDIT: I stand corrected. Andy has told me he has poured vinyl, and creating marbled toys literally is as easy as flipping burgers.

I’ve done ‘marbling’ (double/triple pouring - or whatever we want to call it) while hanging at the vinyl factory, and it came out perfectly acceptable. However, there is certainly skill in making it good - and yes, the color choices are important. However, the prices to get things made in marbled vinyl aren’t so very different from regular single color vinyl, so the massive price jump is kinda funny. Anyway, it’s a supply and demand situation, and demand exists beyond supply surprisingly often.

Though I enjoy seeing well done marbled stuff, all the unpainted things I own are actually solid color vinyl (my own figure samples aside).
