Think of the vibe you get when you log onto Skullbrain and start browsing around.

Now think about the vibe you get at a Death's Vault show.

Same people/collectors, completely different vibe. The contrast is significant. The difference is that one is reality and the other...is Skullbrain. Online communication has always had it's challenges and SB has some very specific challenges that causes it to be a negative and frustrating place for many members. It can also be a really awesome place at times too. Personally, I think IG works really well for you. I'd love to see more details about your work and process here on SB - but if it doesn't feel right, or leads to toxic threads, then don't waste your time. I also think that it's pretty obvious from your success that you have a good sense of what works for your brand.

Honestly, I love what you've been doing with Death's Vault. It's pretty rare and special for a physical venue to exist for such a niche community. When I look back on my time as a collector I'm not going to remember Skullbrain threads but I'll definitely remember my visits to Death's Vault.

Not to take anything away from what you are saying Patrick, but the flip side of that is, for many people - actually, the large percentage of folks, if I might expand things to not be so egocentric - have not had the chance, and likely might never be able, to attend such events in person. And for those people, and many other good souls just looking to talk toys with other like-minded fans around the world, there is Skullbrain. I am not saying this place doesn't have it's warts, but there is a lot of dumping on the forum going on, when I think that people also shouldn't lose sight of where they might be without it having existed, even if they may have moved passed it. It still affords a good connective link for the toy community, and I think still has the chance to lead to positive things, even friendships, virtual or otherwise.

I'm obviously out of touch. This talk about Skullbrain being a toxic place filled with haters, is puzzling to me. The majority of people on SB are perfectly OK in my experience. I'm also puzzled by the comments about chat board days being numbered. Since when?

Compared to Reddit this place is full of pussycats. I had to stop visiting Reddit because of the amount of racist, sexist and just plain crazy users on there, it just made me angry. The amount of slack jawed tripe being spouted was staggering. Sure, Skullbrain has a few snide feckers who enjoy winding people up, but isn't that like everyday life?

I’m pretty succinct when it comes to these things.
All I can say is please post, because IG is a steaming pile of hot garbage. Finding something worthwhile to look at on the #sofubi tag is like finding a needle in a haystack... a haystack of cheap quality, uninspired toys.
Here I just choose a thread, and get to see what I like.

    Edit: a word

Forums and IG are static most of the time, I wouldn't suggest you rely on either but rather add your own to each. I am looking forward to your YouTube efforts. The ones Amapro did are epic and very fun to watch as a fan.

To answer your initial question.. I agree with the fellow that said it would be better if all your stuff (any artist, brand etc.) be on a single thread. Easier access and place to glean perspective etc.

This place has needed a make over/enema for quite some time.

There will always be dicks here but there will also, hopefully always be toy fans. Anyway just some thoughts. Keep pushing yourself and be the best you that you can be.

    There really is nothing else.

Some of my favorite, sort of related quotes.......

"Adapt what is useful, reject what is useless, and add what is specifically your own."

"Mistakes are always forgivable, if one has the courage to admit them."

"It is not a daily increase, but a daily decrease. Hack away at the inessentials."

Rich - Not a collector of your work but just wanted to say I really enjoyed your live stream today on IG - that is what I always enjoy from artists sharing about their behind the scenes stuff like the tin foil balls for the head to save on Sculpey, etc.. Of course you keep on posting here - forums are alive and well.

This has drifted away from the original question, but posting or not posting is an individuals choice. It's still a free country (just) and members, with exception to pr0n or Du**ies, can post whatever they want . . . whether anyone reads it, interacts with it, agrees with it or kicks off about it is all part of playing the game.

I don't collect most of the junk posted on here these days but still enjoy reading (most of the time). Kinda like trawling through Mandarake's cabinets, . . . it's always fun looking for that hidden gem lurking in the depths.

One mans 'haters' and 'trolls' is another's reality check and healthy discourse

The two are not mutually exclusive! ;)

I like seeing the posts. But I won’t post here (except now) so please continue. I’d rather lurk in the shadows. Whenever I see your avatar or MVH in the headline of “New Posts” I click. I’ll support Dv and MVH weather I win or lose a lottery. I like your art like so many others. I like seeing yours and others insight.

I hope Joe stays at number one forever. To think how much he posted so much that even years later without any involvement he’s still number one is mind blowing.

    Love live fiends.

The threads here are always a better discussion than any IG post. Im glad this place exists to chat and nerd out about toys

and regardless of what you do Rich, youve certainly made a mark on the sofubi landscape. That is something I think of very often, youre probably the most recognized American maker right now.

Very high compliment thank you very much.

I really do want to make the best I can for my fans, on all levels.

However I’m on the fence about this place still being the bettter place for discussion. There is still large amounts of rudeness for no reason what so ever. And many discussions turn ugly very fast, at least with me.

I’ll keep posting and see where it goes. But I’m feeling between, shows at my shop, my IG ( with IG live) Facebook, and YouTube it’s being covered in a healthier way at this point. Nothing is better than actual meet ups at shows to talk toys. I wish this place takes a turn to openly discuss things without people taking their opinions as solid facts and being assholes about it.

I’m all for discussion on everything and have had my mind changed many times. But it’s in how it’s handled.

I hope to improve sculpts, paints, release details but can only do what I think works unless people speak up. And not the people who just want to speak up because they can, but people who are active and it affects them.
