    I think I messed up.

Was this not a lotto for a vintage Hakosuka?

With so many DMs I've sent to him, I'm starting to look like a crazy person talking to myself.

Motherfuckers won’t even pay (or want)100 bucks for a dune or mooneyes vinyl ratfink, but Hirota makes a ratfink head with half the charm and people are lining up to throw 500 bucks at his feet. SMDH

It's just the power of branding, but it's sad to see in such a niche hobby. Collect what you love and forget what everyone else thinks. I like a few of the HxS kaiju quite a bit, but not for their current price. To each their own I guess. But it's nicer when people buy pieces because they are clearly drawn to them.

It's crossed my mind many times before with some popular makers. If they sold under a different name, would they still sell out? A la when Banksy sold canvases on the streets of Manhattan posing as a homeless man. Even at $20, he wasn't really able to sell originals.

I don’t know man, I think it’s more than that. One I think many do collect the Dune version, but they are small in comparison and have been released in I’d say, 25 different colors right now ? I have 8 at this point. The HxS is a few things, it’s a 20th anniversary figure celebrating his original fink toy. It’s massive in comparison. And finally it’s new and hyped up. Plus he pulls and paints them himself. He’s also more a artist brand rather than a license style brand like Dune. His history in toys is richer than Dune, which does carry weight.

    Just some food for thought.

Because right now a toy that’s closer in line to Dune is Headlock. Those are selling well now because they are fresh. Sculpted by the same artist as well, Knuckle. They are also made in china which I’m happy no one has had issue with. Goes to show quality is really improving.

I'd argue that most people don't know, or focus, on the points you made Rich.

Even more so I doubt they collect any other Ed Roth/Rat Fink type toys.

It's a 20th anniversary toy for a bunch of collectors who are on their 2nd year collecting, and probably have no clue who Take Shit is. Just like the Medicom/Harryhausen toys, they don't know the Beagle/Pilot Ace side of it...and maybe not even the Harryhausen side for some :(

As a brand HxS has done an amazing job of growing, both by his own and his fans doing. Smart partnerships(Pushead), the return of Finks and a lot of sculpts based on nostalgic characters that no one else was doing prior to him. I think a lot of this came from his toy history, which seems to have faded away with newer collectors. What has also faded with that, is his loyalty to those who were collecting years ago(or maybe they're just not posting when they win). I understand that with a huge growing demand it is tough to keep a balance.

On a side note, Dune really did exploit the crap out of their Rat Fink toy. A better comparison would be with the SecretBase version which sells out immediately each release. But it is still relatively new, so it too might slow.

Yeah I know there is more to it with the history of fink shit than just a rat fink head, I was just over simplifying it. Still, this hobby values copies of original properties over the originals themselves and I guarantee 99 percent of people entering don’t even have a single rat fink toy

I bet your right on all this, very good points. Id like to hope some of them though, end up wanting to dive into the toys back history and do find the inspiration behind this.

sad, but some only want hype. won't touch a toy if its not hyped, and will clear the shelves of said toy if it becomes not the thing to be. Happens in shoes all the time, and it annoys the hell out of me, that people let the market tell them whats hot, instead of using their own brain. it's actually sad at times.

Not to bring up an old, tired, conversation but this is where SB(even on its worst day) has an edge over IG. There is a sense of knowledge and research on this board. And I'd argue that people like this best about SB. For example, I can pretty easily look up and compare the Pilot Ace Cyclops and compare it to the Medicom versions. While doing it I can also get lots of other info about it...like 1 vs 2 horns, or alternate club hand info. Even this thread has a great early history of HxS toys, including release order. This also makes it hard to see SB die in its bitter popularity. Much more, we'd never converse like this on IG.

Obviously, it is Friday and I don't have a lot to do at work...

Shoes are always the best comparison to toys in every aspect. There really isn't anything else comparable, maybe purses.

For the most part. Flipping is way more common there and acceptable now. I’d assume more scamming there too. I think the skeleton of things for the most part is the same. But most definitely differences. For me it’s the closest thing to this hobby that mimics. I know some could care less about shoes, but they might have yet another hobby they can compare it to.

Whatever you do, don't make a comment about current releases being overpriced on Hirotas instagram.. he's got that trigger finger on the block button! Oh well - ignorance is bliss as I totally missed this latest lottery :)

No worries though - I'm sure Rich will hook me up with his Fink release.. oh wait..

What’s been bothering me the most about this notion, is, so many Fink Shit posts I see don’t even have Takeshit’s name tagged or attached anywhere. Just a multitude of varied Hirota tags, and even captions that say it’s BY Hirota on one or all of the original trio. It just sucks that so many people have zero desire to know the actual history of what they collect. I don’t have any Hirota, or any desire to, but I will absolutely forever recognize his place in this hobby and what the toys he pulls and puts out has done. Dude’s been in it for as long as a factory as he has been an artist.

Should have posted in purple.. no violin needed  MVH is lumped in with Ministry of Kongz, Red Hot Style, PLT, PlanetxAsia.. not even a blip on the collecting radar for me anymore. Although any chance to annoy Richie boy still gets the juices flowing tho ;) shame he censored his reply to me while I was sleeping..

Anyway back on topic - Hirota's toys are still super nice and fun to look at. Just sucks a lot of older collectors have seemingly been flushed down the toilet for the new wave of n00bs - where's the loyalty? It's also a bummer that a lot of fans have been priced out of collecting his fantastic figures.
