A recent 'whether it's disrespectful to the artist or just a dickmove to paint rare blanks' conversation reminded me of another first-world dilemma . . . the curse of general release uncut blank sofubi toys/kits.

I know my preference but am curious as to what the general consensus is?

Cutting is blasphemy, blasphemy I tell you!
I weep when I see assembled wing kits.

Edit: if you’re talking big-ass blank unassembled preorders, then whatever floats your boat. I still think over time it’s MUCH cooler to keep em uncut.

There just aren’t that many unassembled toys floating around in our little niche universe, at least on the collectors’ side of the equation.

I like a bit of both. Some I have assembled, and some stay a big pile of parts.

Cut it, paint it, play with it, expletive it. It's mine so I do what I want with it....is my opinion.

It’s not a simple black and white decision, is it? Maybe more of a black and pink though?

I recently cut a SHB figure I had in my collection for years as uncut pieces. I was on the fence for a long time but for me I just didn't really enjoy having it in pieces. Couldn't really play with it. Couldn't display it in any kind of way that wasn't annoying. So it sat in the back of a display case in a pile forever. Now that it's assembled I enjoy it so much more. I was curious if I would regret it or not but I don't at all. The only real reason to leave it in pieces with all that flash was because it was rare that way but I went with fun over rarity and it was a good choice for me personally.

Did the same thing with a glow kumon recently too. Was fun in the bag but assembled actually makes it a toy which is way more fun. Plus it came with fucking beautiful instructions for how to cut and put it together which probably wouldn't have been included if the artist wasn't cool with doing that.

If some one buys a toy, the ownership is theirs.

It's really up to the collector.

If it is a truly a Kit, and was intentionally Sold as a Kit, then feel free to assemble or keep as-is.
If it is uncut, and was not intended as a Kit, probably gifted as a Sample or Sold as an uncut version... 'tis blasphemy to tamper with it!

Agreed 1000%....I think that goes without saying though. It’s an opinion poll/thread, folks are just expressing their opinions.

As someone that has cut kits, sold cut kits, regretted it, and repurchased uncut versions of said kits, I say don’t do it. It was fun while cutting and assembling, but I immediately regretted it.

It’s like opening a vintage bagged toy. It’s lasted this long in its state, do you really want to be the one to alter that? That’s a lot of responsibility,, I don’t want that blood on my hands.

Just as with bagged vintage, why buy it in the first place if you’re going to tamper with it? There’s plenty of assembled versions, do you really need to assemble one that was intended to be uncut?

Not telling you what to do with your toy, just food for thought.

i think it really just depends, i have more left uncut than i have cut, but i have cut some kits. my latest one i did, i wanted to preserve the kit as much as possible, but after looking at the pieces i had, i only needed to make 1 cut and a bunch of heat to invert the joints inside, and still be able to build it. lol.

Zach has so much kit blood on his hands. lol

That’s a pretty strong logical argument.

.....A prime example of what not to cut.

So then are planning on cutting whatever it is that you were having this dilemma about?

No dilemma. Most have already long since been cut (although a few test pulls have escaped and got buried in storage which is a shame!)

I was more curious about opinions in general.

i definitely think cutting samples/gifts/non-kits is blasphemy. if its meant to be cut and assembled you’ll know.

but yadda yadda you paid the person money so its like yours or whatever yeah yeah yeah is a good enough reason for people to do as they like with their property. or you could just like, wait for an assembled one to come up for sale, dude
