    Hello everyone,

I will be visiting Chicago for the first time this weekend. Anything you guys suggest I check out?
Landing on Friday, stupid Black Friday, so don't know if it'll be crazy the way it gets out here.

I would also love to hang out with any Skullbrainers on Saturday if anyone has the chance.
I understand its that time of the year for families and eating, so if it can't happen oh well.

Blanking on the name - sorry - but when you hit Rotofugi, ask them about the Wicker Park bar that has (had?) an annual sofubi display. I'm not sure if it's still happening, but you used to able to depend on this place to have a HUGE monster diorama in their old storefront display area every holiday season. 'Twas cool.

Pictures, please, if it's still a thing.

    Edit: Remembered the name...

Im an SAIC student, want me to get you into the Art Institute of Chicago for free?

Also, theres rotofugi and a few other stores that have toys if you want that and all around them good food and stuff to be had.

I say a visit to logan arcade (for killer queen) and maybe a slice of pizza or bbq with poutine and you'll be set for a night. Let me know if you need a tour guide, I love giving a tour.

and yeah, rainbo is a great dive.

    Welcome to Chicago!

Galerie F is a fun spot if you're into urban art. Vertical Gallery is also nice.
Food wise there's the Girl and the Goat but it might be hard to get a reservation. They have a sister restaurant across the street that is for walk ins.
If you find anything else cool let us know. I'm out there a couple times a year including Christmas

Its crazy weather rn. Bring a light jacket or hoodie.

Also, Rotofugi is still around, but thats about it when it comes to sofubi.

Nakama Toys has jpn import toys if youre into that.

Skip the deep dish and take a water taxi from the loop to chinatown for some decent grub.

Hope your time here is great! Just ask if you need some specific things depending on the neighborhood.

Thanks @gatiio I never miss a trip to Rotofugi. I don't need the deep dish but I can already taste the Italian Beef. I don't think I've ever been to Chinatown so that sounds really good. Made a reservation at Proxi because the menu and atmosphere looked good but if you have a specific recommendation for a nice spot for me and the lady I'll happily take it.

    @Brooklyn_Vinyl no worries!
motts Street is supposed to have a cheeseburger on par with au cheval’s. I’ve had it and still like the experience of au cheval, but worth the try.

Chinatown as a very good Korean place Called ajjumas apron. Worth it if you like korean food, quite authentic.

What kind of spots are you on the look out for?

I've never been to au acheval and I love Korean food so I'll put both of those on my list. I've been to Chicago so many times to visit my inlaws and I'm always looking for an excuse to bust out on my own and try something new. I really like street art so wandering the streets looking for new instalations is always a pleasure.

Try Pilsen’s murals on the trains. They’re quite good and second to San Francisco’s.

Hope you have a lovely time!

Just following up on this thread. Chicago was great this time around. We ate at Proxi in the west loop and had a drink Fox Bar in the lobby of the SoHo House. I recommend both of those spots. It was fun to watch members come in and out of the club. One of the highlights was the rooftop bar at the Chicago Athletic Association and then dinner at the Cherry Circle Room. I can't recommend this place enough. The details of the building are stunning. My brother-in-law said it was a spot for tourists but I was a tourist.
Rotofugi's sofubi selection was never great but it's next to nothing these days. We went to the MCA to check out the Virgil Abloh exhibit and then went over to the pop up he was doing with LV. Visited Galerie F who has a great show going on. From there I went and checked out some street art in the neighborhood.
Overall I had one of my better trips to Chicago.
