@Alebrije - Roger, yes, a legendary goji on light green vinyl with a full coating of green paint with dark green highlights and oversized sloppy orange eyes. This is only the fourth example I have seen of this rare variant. It is very exciting to see Toy's King surface another one of these treasures. I don't know how they source so many incredible vintage toys, but many of them seem to have been dug up from really filthy storage rooms. I hope they keep turning up more though, including some of the editions that are even rarer. ;)

Also, there was a Bullmark Megalon with faded metallic red sprays and some light marker on the left foot up for auction last night. It sold for ¥432,000 yen:

Thank you for all the explanation @deafmetal Mark, I was also struck by the detail of the eyes, I think this is the second I've seen at auction and in fact the price of this was higher than the previous one.
I was also following the auction of that Megalon another gem that is not seen so often either. Let's wait and keep coming out more rare pieces.

This was not a Yahoo auction, but this very rare Fujiko Fujio inspired Frankenstein mid-size soft vinyl by Takatoku immediately sold for 580,000円 from Moserite/Kobe Toy:

Bullmark Gomora on flesh vinyl with metallic blue sprays, reportedly a rare Hawaiian version, immediately sold for 350,000 yen at KT:

As the listing mentions, "Personally, I think Blue Gomora and Blue Kamerking are the best masterpieces of the monster soft vinyl." Some of you might remember the Kamerking that sold for a similar amount back in March. An amazing specimen:

A listing from some time back I forgot to share here. An auction for a Popy jumbo Ultraman Leo which ended last month at 701k yen. I love Leos and this big guy is real beauty. (and I also love jumbos, so this is a pairing in my heaven) How I can imagine this hero towering over guarding my other toys. :) Lovely details and execution, and that chest crystal is just perfect.

The prices are insane...but I get it. I just can't wrap my head around toys released in 2017-2019 that warrant that much.

It is worth mentioning that this was my holy grail for over ten straight years.
I searched for him online every single day of that decade and bugged the shit out of countless people. You know who you are.
The drama and blood pressure during this acquisition had to have shaved years off of my life.
This may be the sixth or seventh one of these I have seen for sale. I landed the third one I had seen, this was back in 2009.
This is an interesting specimen. It was clearly stored in some attempt to keep it in good condition, yet it is obvious it was in a damp place. The sad staining on the face looks like vinyl mold. That would be awesome if I am wrong and it cleans off. My specimen was stored in its box as well but it was in a very dry place, so my suit was quite brittle and has a crack in the crotch. The colors on mine are not as vibrant as this example, but there are no stains.
The Nakajima nodder sculpts have been my thing since about 1997, maybe a little earlier. They are the wackiest, most perfectly balanced renditions of humanoid Japanese characters, ever, in my opinion. This one, being a giant-sized version, is peculiar and very rare.
In all of my personal cogitation on these weird figures, I will add that my sense has always been that these were, despite all of their gimmicks, primarily for collections and display. I would love to be wrong about this, but it has sorta become apparent that even when these were produced, and particularly this figure, they were presented in such a way that really did not cater to children's play. The giveaway is the fact that the arms can not really be turned upwards to "flying mode" with the vinyl suit on (Astro Mu 5 did, actually address this "arms up" issue and then go "full send" with the missle-firing playset, but everyone knows that is an entirely different discussion. . . ) Further, with an understanding of the packaging and the "chase figure" quality of this giant-size version, I have always come away with the feeling that these toys and their makers were already foreseeing and paving the way for what was to come - zinc toys and their "investment" aura all the way up to today's art vinyl scene: objects for collectors, not children.
I appreciate a legitimate reason to opine and ramble about the art history of these toys. When I started collecting these I was so broke I was literally hammering nails in the Oregon rain to just keep a goddamn roof over my head. I was not super-pumped that one of these cost a minimum of $300, when I could actually manage to track one down. Many, many hours were spent wondering what the fuck was wrong with me as you can very well imagine I wasn't putting up roof trusses in blasting rain and wind two stories up with a bunch of other guys who were interested in rubber children's toys with gloves and boots and capes.
    Cheers

^ Actually amazing, and just the sort of post I come to SB for. This is indeed an incredible piece, and it makes me so happy to hear someone's dear appreciation for it. I am very thrilled that you were able to track one down, after all that effort I have no doubt you spent. I think, for most vintage collectors and anyone who has spent a fair amount of time in this hobby, we can completely relate to what you have described. It isn't even so much about setting a 'grail' for collecting which is something particularly rare or sought after - rather, it is about something that we connect to, that we are simply attracted to for whatever reason. There doesn't have to be, and seldom is, any kind of logic behind it. But we love these silly toys nonetheless. And I am sure justifying to yourself the spend at the time was hefty - I have totally been there - but in hindsight I am sure that this Zone Fighter brings you such joy and, especially seeing the market now, all that sacrifice and effort was worth it. So kudos on fulfilling a want, which is just as relevant and respectable now as it was then. And thanks for sharing.

That is such a beautiful poly Ultraman. The backward 'S' in the Marusan is just perfect.

Here is another one I was watching. The auction itself is nothing overly special, but the sneakpeak into the packaging did have me curious. There is a an extra bonus surprise included, even on top of the already great Bullmark poster material. The silver packet seems to contain some special premium cards. I am not sure what exactly is inside, and even I, who probably would not keep many packaged toys for long, would have a tough time ripping through that foil. Anyone have any more info on these perhaps?

Bullmark Ultraman Taro, middle size bent leg, sold for 45.5k yen

Here's another pretty special one, or at least very close to my heart, an original Marusan paint-your-own/rakugai Gomess [ended at 169.5k yen]:

The colours on this toy are incredible, with the ageing you get all nice different blends of that classic light blue vinyl colour, shifting into blue-green. A pretty special figure, and a hard one to chase. This one has some remaining paint from the 'custom' work, which some might take as damage/decreasing its overall value, but actually I love when the toys are like this, it speaks to what the original intent for them was. I think I'd like it more like this than a more pristine blank (personal choice of course). And, actually, I sort of really like the effect the remaining orange-red paint has on giving him a somewhat sinister monster appearance. Very fun, very cool, an expertly rendered classic sculpt, and just a piece of toy history now.

Honestly, I am pretty jealous of anyone who was able to adopt this guy. A special Marusan to be able to have, and one of the fewer Tsubu characters available like this. An easy investment if I had that kind of money to spare, what a gorgeous toy!

Awesome @ultrakaiju , do you know of if ultraman was also sold blank to be painted ?! Not referring to the poly versions. Thanks

Yep. In addition to the aforementioned Marsuan poly paint kit versions, the 'second' version Marusan did of the '66 Ultraman also came as a self-paint kit. I don't have a great source on this on hand right at the moment (a few were posted in this thread discussion but I think the image links might be dead), but you can see it second from the left in this collection shot from Mark N:

It is, of course, highly sought after, even when very crudely painted up by kids' hands.

I would not say it's rare but if it's uncommon to see the whole Nakajima Rainbowman collection together and all the figures in great shape.
The auction started at 200,000¥ and I really did not think it would go up to much.

The strange thing about the figure is the Ultraman headercard and that also says SAN on it. The good thing is that you can still find good things at relatively affordable prices.

I am not a great connoisseur of the Booska figure but it is the first time that I see a figure of this size of the character made of poly and with the SAN stamps, just love it, but not the price.
