If you have a buying service or someone in Japan, you can pick up figures from his webstore like Cat Aunt Osaka:

mm Id like to get one of those kappas with the key chain strap on there, but I've chosen to remain ignorant of the buying service game.

Just got a Cat Aunt earlier this week.. my second Dehara figure! I love the 'unfinished' quality to his sculpts.. the creases remind me of old claymation tv series.

Those are great pieces from the show at Giant Robot. Nice score for whoever picked them up.

i've always liked how the packaging is on them but scared by how fragile they look.

The show was pretty great in person., with dehara focusing on micro versions of his work. I grabbed a few pieces, but have to admit that they did seem a little pricey compared to the regular sized pieces that would come in the great plastic packaging.

Not to bump this out of nowhere, but I realised today that I'm uncomfortable collecting Dehara even though I'm interested in his work, because many of his toys genuinely unnerve me. Probably more than any other designs I've seen in sofubi.

    Cause of the subject matter?
I actually love his work then again, I like films by Takashi Miike.
Yakuza, addicts, otaku, wrestlers, sex organs, homeless, fan service (probably missing some other common subjects)
    All good IMO

On the flip side, I would never collect the random messy autopsy-like stuff by others that seems all the rage

Not even. The sculpting style just hits this uncanny place for me. I dig the original Satoshi but Morlin, for example, just oozes this skeeviness like a gigantic sleazy insect. And I kind of enjoy it to be honest  I'm impressed at the emotion they get out of me. But I don't know if I could keep it in my room. For sculpts without the usual blood and guts it's amazing how much they affect me.

I love and collect Dehara. His style is tongue-in-cheek which always makes me smile. With two of his latest sculpts pictured above however, I can kind of see what you’re getting at... (photos taken from Dehara’s instagram)

I appreciate Dehara's place in Japanese culture and his toys. Fullstop. I actually think that they are perhaps more cutting edge then tkom, bemon, izu, or hxs etc. Dehara's vinyl toys speak volumes and are never safe. But I'm to cognizant of my kids' perception and wouldn't want others misinterpreting those toys on a bookshelf if they came to my house. I guess I'm old.

I see this sentiment echoed alot and now that I have a child of my own I can understand. I suppose I can explain away Morlin’s “I Love Pussy” shirt to my kid as being in reference to felines but anything with genitalia becomes progressively harder. Personally, I find my guests generally don’t pick up on these things because the toy room is too cluttered for their vinyl virgin eyes to decipher.

I manager to see Dehara live probably 10 years ago, it was incredible !
Can't think of a toy producer like him ! Probably because he is not an actual toy producer !

Jealous! I’d love to attend his workshops as well as his live painting. Seems like such a cool guy.

Dehara absolutely nailed it if you find Morlin skeevy and sleazy. He’s a degenerate sex fiend monster who’s best friends with the unassuming salaryman Satoshi.

One of the many things I love about Dehara’s work is that he creates a whole world of characters with personalities and zany backstories.

The Dehara Works 1998-2018 book gives a great overview of his various characters and work if you’re interested.

Saw this Dehara custom for the upcoming Angel Abby show pairing Dehara and Izu Monster together. Something about this is absolutely hilarious to me. I love how Dehara can apply his humour to just about any damn thing.
