You're welcome, gents! Happy to share. The page flipped quicker than I realized it would, so I'm repeating my initial post here.
It's about exposure, not vanity, I swear! :D

    • ooo

Amazing times for us mono-lingual devotees of Showa-era Ultra shows ---

Everybody knows about the scrappy but still appreciated box sets of Ultra Q, Ultraman and UltraSeven, but have you noticed that...

A Malaysian company called VGB Network has released fully subbed versions of the complete runs of Return of Ultraman, Ultraman Ace, Ultraman Taro and, as if that wasn't enough, Jumborg Ace? All leave a bit to be desired - each disc is jammed with up to 19 episodes, the translation on the subs can be a bit ESL at times, etc - but they're still plenty watchable, and perfectly understandable. Oh, and CHEAP! Low thirties if you go the eBay route, about half that plus ship if you go with a company like SkyDVDs.

What, you still want more? What if I told you that a company called Crunchyroll had licensed both Ultraman Leo and Ultraman 80? And that they were streaming both, with absolutely perfect subs, for free? You'd be happy, right? Here's links to, if you don't mind a few commercials, those streams, and if you do mind, links to torrents of quality MKV rips with removable subs:

Don't feel quite complete yet? Hi no Tori has teamed up with MegaBeast Empire to bring us a fully subbed release of Ultraman Story, Tsuburaya's revisionist history film from '87 that tells the tale of a teenage Taro trying to prove his salt to the Ultra Brothers and the 'rents:

Back to '66 for a minute, Midnight Crew Subs has an interesting revision for fans of the OG hero show - same muddy Chaiyo transfers, but with vastly improved subtitles:

To recap - EVERY Ultrashow from '66-'80 is now out there with subs in English! Now if only someone would show a little love to Fireman...

      Happy New Year, toku fans!

      ooo

I guess I should mention some of my Heisei and Millennial discoveries as well.

You'll see quite a few more films and series in the SkyDVDs link above, but I can't speak to their quality from personal experience.

That Crunchyroll company offers Max and Mebius with the same great English-friendly treatment...
plus there are quality rips to be had as well:

I'm still none-too interested in the newer stuff, but this quote I found has me thinking about giving Max a look:

    • When Ultraman Max was announced, the news that such Japanese cinema luminaries such as Shusuke Kaneko and prolific film psychotic Takashi Miike would be directing, one wondered what could possibly be the result. The first episodes, while enjoyable, resemble the typical pattern of the kid friendly shows. The special effects are very good for an Ultraman show and show the eye of Mr. Kaneko. Many of the monsters are from the original series or Ultraseven. It's not until episode 8 that the show really starts to hit the gears. The quirky imagination of the original series starts to come back along with the experimental photography. Then with episode 15 the show goes to new levels. A very unusual story of a blind girl who plays the flute and a giant blob that reacts to everything around it. Episode 22 is an existentialist story of the show's writer confusing his identity with the lead character in dreams. I suspect Miike was behind this one since there's a creepy transvestite in the episode. ...

I just found this handy - if a bit out of date - cheat sheet, too:

There's plenty of info on where to go to find further post-golden age fancy there.

Had no idea that these subbed eps had been uploaded fer streaming.

The rest are out there, have been for a while, but you have to put a little work into it.

Any interest in the Ultra brother what goes by the name of Ace?

A giant-hearted stranger has been putting in the time and effort to transform the salad Engrish subs from the Malaysian DVD set into perfectly timed and mostly comprehensible sentences. He's only finished the first thirty-some episodes so far, patience is key, but you can enjoy the work in progress by following this link.

Folks can keep their Stranger Things marathon, I think I've found how I'm going to waste the day:

This whole run is up and subbed at Shout! Factory TV.

Need some Canadian Content with your Sebben?

Some fellow took the time to sync the Cinar dub of U7 with rips from the R2J blus.
    Playlist here, DL elsewhere.

This is handy, I've been watching said Malaysian DVD. Need to get back on this but I'm currently on a Kamen rider kick, sitting on episode 52 of the original series.

I was able to find this in full online, raw if interested. By the end, this show its self apart from the herd IMO (despite seeming almost exactly like another Ultra entry to begin with).

Oh, thanks for the reminder! A quick check over to my source and I learned some sad news - the sub crew is no more - but it turns out that they made it up to episode 7 before they disbanded. And yes, I'd love to know where I can grab the raws!

Will try and locate this for you later on. Hi no tori disbanded? Noooooooooooooooo. Loved their work. It's worth noting I was able to squeeze two raw episodes of Booska out of one of the staff members on the forums there, if you are interested.

Found the site to download the Fireman raws: krdl.moe

You need to create an account but it's totally worth it because it's free and you can also find other classics such as:
    INAZUMAN (subs, completed)
    CONDORMAN (raw, completed)

It is also worth noting that avistaz.to is currently hosting Kure Kure Takora (raw, completed) and Ryusei Ningen Zone (raw, completed) however it is a private tracker. Keep an eye peeled for when registrations are up and running again! :D If people feel like going through the various Kamen Rider entries, I believe these are for the most part all available on kissasian - a free streaming website.

Interesting news coming out from the folks at Shout! Factory. They are launching a new streaming channel/service [of course] in conjunction with Pluto TV called TokuSHOUTsu. This new forum will have available, as just some of its content, much of its back catalogue of the Sentai series it has previously released on DVD, but perhaps key to the announcement is it will also included, for possibly the first time ever in the US in an 'official' capacity, series/season one of Kamen Rider. That is pretty incredible for KR fans, if only the promise of a minor taste at this point. The announcement also shared - particularly useful to me if I was in the US - that this service would include Tsuburaya's own Ultraman Leo!!!! :D I am not sure how they worked out the licenses for these properties, but hopefully this recent wave of Japanese content is a great sign that the historical walls are being broken down, and soon we can all enjoy the toku shows we love.

From the coverage of the info through iO9 :

FYI to those who don’t know but Tubi which is a free steaming service is hosting the original Kamen Rider as well.

EDIT: this may only apply to the yanks. Others will have to continue their nefarious ways.

Well now, more fairly incredible tokusatsu news (especially if you are Japanese), to cheer you up after - what I think we can all agree - has been a fairly gloomy week.

Toei, perhaps the biggest studio name associated with the genre, has just announced it will be kicking off an official YouTube channel entitled "TOEI TOKUSATSU WORLD OFFICIAL." This will include a backlibrary from their catalogue from up to 70 shows!!! :o These will cover their series from the 1960s all the way through the '90s. Obviously the Super Sentai series is going to be a key marquee here for them for the fans, but I am actually more excited about some of the other offerings - knowing how much Toei actually has. I won't cover the list here, a simple google/wiki dig can turn up the extensive names, but as a brief offering, here is a glimpse from their own announcement:

For me, some of the obvious releases I am excited about are the Captain Ultra series, and especially the anime. To be able to watch shows like Daimos and Combattler V will be such a treat. There are some glaring [to me] omissions from this list (though to be fair this is a very early access on); I am really excited by the possibility of shows like Barom-1, Spider-Man, Inazuman, Kikaider, Akumaiser, Kagestar, Giant Robo.... I mean the classic titles we might get to see are amazing. :dam:

Importantly, for us international fans - and for the first time ever - they've announced that the first two episodes of each of the series will be released with English subtitles. While this is sort of a tease at this point, since it is not a 'preview' to try and tempt you to buy the remainder, well let's just hope eventually (or with lots of views) they will gradually work on rolling out more.

Anyways, some potentially great streaming coming up, for when a third of the globe is in self-isolation.

The YouTube channel is all set to kick off 6 April, 2020.

Been looking forward to this. To my understanding they have the capacity to release more eps subbed if members of the community participate in providing subs. Perfect timing in this crazy world.

More news for the yanks or those with VPNs: the violent kung fuspolitation entirety of Ultraman Leo is now up on Tubi courtesy of Shout! Factory! There is now no excuse to miss one of the greatest Ultra entries, especially since it comes at the price tag of free.

Oh fudge. I mean, that is excellent news, just sad now that I didn't sign up for the VPN offer I saw a few weeks back (before all of this really went down, you know what they say about hindsight..... :( ). But it did seem too good to be true at the time, and coming from an 'ad' I am particularly skeptical.

Looking at some of these options here, and I might give one of them a go.

I just watched the Mitsurugi episode, this is brilliant !
Why all those movies have all of their fight scenes happening in a quarry? This is so weird !

I always manage to find something to complain about, so here it is: I wish that Toei created playlists on their channel. Granted, most shows like 8-Chan and Janpersson are only a couple of episodes in so far, but I hope that they rectify this.

I am loving the TOEI YouTube channel. Loads of things I’ve wanted to see but never had the chance alongside many shows I’d never even heard of. Spent the day watching Captain Ultra and Kikaider and the unbelievably bizarre Nemulin. Hopefully they do more than just 2 episodes of each with English subs.

I knew that HnT had disbanded, but I didn't know that they'd let the archive evaporate. Foo.
