I thought Resident Evil too, specifically William Birkin:

I will say Planet X as a whole is WAY over-producing everything. Even if everything they put out was gold it just seems like they are churning stuff out at an alarming rate.

I like the mutant too, but I wish it was smaller. At an 8" scale, I'd grab a blank easily.
I think this is taller, maybe 12"?

There are very few Planet X toys that truly belong in this thread. They just all get shit on, pun intended, for the lack of originality. Almost all are a direct knock off of something else that is also popular in toys at the moment...gorillas, robot gorillas, 2 heads, Harryhausen, extreme detailed gnarly sculpts. A lot of these I'm a fan of. They just need to do something better or different, to get me excited. The Goliathon and this new mutated(Resident Evil X The Thing) sculpt are technically great but feel a bit overly designed and a little unbalanced.

My favorite sculpt they made was Two Headed Creep; again 2 heads... but a bit more cartoony, and a little bit TKOM style/proportions mixed with 80's/90's gross toys and classic monsters. It had enough influences mixed together to finally feel a bit original(though most are recurring toy themes). Then they go and make a Harryhausen cyclops head(which does fit the design), and now a terrible Freddy Krueger head/hand. They had me with the classic Frankenstein and Wolfman heads, but took it too far.

Yep, that's my main dislike for a lot of their toys, they look overly detailed and i dont feel anything when i look at them. They look like they're made by an action figure type manufacturer jumping on the sofubi bandwagon. It all seems a bit contrived and lacks soul, so they don't have the fun vibe most Japanese toys have. Just my opinion at gut level. People on FB always comment on how large those two sculpts are as well, which is yet another trend they have jumped on. They pump this shit out like a company riding a wave and trying to sell as much as possible before people realise they are actually quite uninspired, rather than slowly building a catalogue of memorable work that stands the test of time. What i'm saying is, it mostly looks like random generic fluff to me, all sound and fury but signifying nothing.

This is a good way of putting it. They look like something NECA or MacFarlane would design.

Pretty sure this ripped from menko card. The design at least.

It just looks like Jamila with that Gudetama egg for a head, to me.

That’s exactly what I said in my initial response! So I think that says something when that vibe reads across multiple people’s minds!

Moog, not havin’ the fun vibe is somethin’ I’d have to agree with. Again, far from bad as far as sculptural integrity. There just isn’t a whole lot of life past that. Very stiff.

Yep, personality and fun is very important for Sofubi IMO. The best independent makers have a distinct style of their own, which took them many years of persistance and ceaseless creativity to achieve. They build their brand with love and often humour, so there is meaning to their endeavours, like any artist or craftsman.

They don't have that throw lots of shit at the wall and see what sticks mentality.

Anyway speaking of shit, another fugly coprophilic delight for your enjoyment:

I couldn’t agree any more. What’s the point of a toy if it’s got no personality or fun factors to it? Of course, this is subjective over only a few opinions expressed here, but if you can’t even hold these things and imagine *something* productively fun, why even own it?

Reminds me of Tom Hanks in Big:

I like my toys to have an element of 'dumb'!

Even reproprortined fight figures to humanoid proportions would hold no appeal . . . squat lil' cartoony dudes, no matter how 'wannabe badass' or 'fugly' are still squat lil' cartoony dudes.

I don't think I have seen that vinyl color before, and I am thankful for that

Don't diss poo colours! Iffy as a blank, but that base opens up some beautiful paint options... on a different sculpt. If it's coloured like a turd, it can't also be shaped and textured like one.

All the way back from page 2...not in the brilliant turd color, but the same toy looping back.

Also I like brown and other "murky" colored vinyl, both painted and unpainted.

    It hasn't improved with age.

7 years later and it still sucks!

Sure, I have a few brown sculpts myself. I like some darker vinyls too, but none of my toys look exactly like a little glistening turd !!

Brown vinyl is my least favorite vinyl. Pair it with gold spray and I doubly dislike it. Yet, I did buy this:

There sure seems to be a whole lot of money being spent on making horrible toys these days... kind of like the movie industry. Millions being spent on an endless barrage of crappy movies, most of them cgi garbage.
