Much like the "what are you listening to" thread, I thought it would be a good place to have a thread for any randomly addictive stuff you are watching: youtube series, Netflix show, whatever.

For those who like true crime this is pretty fucking nuts. Vice always has a very interesting perspective on things and how the culture of the small town this all happened in shaped the people is just fascinating to me.

I've been binging on 'Elementary' with Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu. I've just bought seasons two and three, so ive got plenty of episodes ready to go. I personally think its way better than 'Sherlock'.

It’s 100% better than Sherlock. The Holmes character is insufferably smug in Sherlock. In Elementary he’s still brilliant, but much more human and likeable as a result. Lucy Lui is also great as Watson.

Yes, both characters have been modernised in a much more believable and interesting way. I think the fact they're based in NY helps with that, Holmes is a foreigner, so his arrogant behaviour is seen more as eccentricity. JLM is obviously having the time of his life in the role, and Lui is as good as ever.

Just finished season 2 of Mindhunter the other week and quickly veered right over and watched the whole first season of Cold Case. Both excellent series if you're into murder mysteries.

Also Mindhunter season 2 was just as good as season 1. The casting they did for the individuals in S2 was incredible. David Burkowitz........holy fffuuuuu-

Undone on amazon is amazing. Sad, interesting sort of science fiction. Finished Carnival Row, which I think got pretty good towards the end. And I just started Rook also on amazon. Pretty good so far.

I’ve been going through all of the work satoshi kon directed. I only went through bits and pieces in the past. It’s crazy to see how far ahead he was.

@skaldavsatanssol Batman: TAS was so ahead of its time, in my opinion. And the voice actors are SO perfectly cast. My favorite episodes are The Gray Ghost(amazing Adam West cameo), Almost Got ‘Im and The Laughing Fish. And, of course, the show’s character innovation of introducing Harley Quinn to the world via Arleen Sorkin!

Lately, I’ve been binging Fresh Off the Boat a few episodes a night with the lady. But on my own time I just finished American Horror Story: Apocalypse. The main antagonist was pretty annoying as an actor, but I did thoroughly enjoy the storyline.
The constant throwbacks to the characters and precious seasons was incredible, and I loved that so many actors/actresses played multiple characters throughout the season. Having the Coven(particularly Zoe) and Marie Laveau return was especially great!

^^ I think you'll find the full title of that obscure show is 'Seinfeld Curbs His Enthusiasm' ;)

I've been binging a show my brother kept banging on about called 'The Expanse'. I finally got round to it. I've just finished S01 and I'm loving it

Ha! That one's on my ever growing list of intended binges, along with Patriot, a super-smart, subtle and hilarious spy series also on Prime. Had a look at the first few episodes of each and dropped the ball.

Other top contenders for my time are Neon Genesis Evangelion and the second series of Dark and The Terror. I haven't even gotten around to the rest of Legion, Flowers or Fleabag, three of my favorites from the past few years, though, so who knows when and what I'll binge again. Maybe once winter proper sets in. It'll be too cold to move then!

Millenium actress is my favorite work of his. I haven't seen tokyo godfathers and I need to rewatch perfect blue. If anyone hasn't seen millenium actress yet you should. It's a great movie to watch while feeling down if you like watching depressing shit while depressed like me. Or if you just appreciate an incredibly well put together film on a techincal level. Paranoia agent falls off a little as it goes on in my opinion with the exception of the suicide episode.
I rewatched synecdoche new york again and you might like it if you like millenium actress.

    RE: Mr. Kon

I absolutely love Paranoia Agent and recommend it to people often. Rather than 'falling off', I think, the series benefits from taking it in as intended; in installments with a break inbetween rather than one right after the other. Each episode has it's own, er, identity I suppose, and bears consideration as a standalone piece of art* as well as being an essential part to a whole.

As it hasn't been mentioned yet, I'd like to toss up some praise for Tokyo Godfathers. It's the one work of his that I'd be comfortable calling family friendly, but that doesn't mean that it isn't dark, mature and richly told. It's also oddly uplifting in the least saccharine way, and if it isn't on your list to screen in late December every year, well, consider adding it to your annual traditions - it's my Secret Christmas Classic.

I understand it was a way for satoshi kon to put his ideas out without being stuck for a long period of time on a movie, but I feel the overall plot feels forced in the later half. That's why the suicide episode episode was so much better than the others around it because shonen bat complimented the story instead of feeling forced in my opinion. This also happens in my favorite manga dorohedoro. I think people just end up working on something for so long the 2nd half just ends up not hitting the same notes.

Edit: What I'm trying to say is that I would of preferred if they were 13 completely different episodes instead of having the shonen bat be "forced" in.

Going to have to disagree as I found Shonen Bat to be the catalyst that changes the situation in each episode, being representative of progress.

Regarding the “suicide” episode as you call it, I always wondered what the final scene with it’s zoom up on the condom machine was meant to represent. Were the characters unborn children or should they have been? Really gets the noggin jogging.

    ^ This!

But... cranky ol' man that I am... watch with the potential spoilers, y'all! I'm pretty sure that all of the specifics mentioned so far will seem like gibber soon to be forgotten to the uninitiated, but you never know.

You can have your Frisbees back, though. My lawn is your lawn up to a point.
