It was a quite intentional, and not so subtle, attempt at "course-correction" by the group Force of 4-Chan. I'm sure they'll be quite pleased that you noticed!

I didn’t read through the whole thread but what are you guys thinking about The Mandalorian?

I’m kinda pumped for it and I want it to be good. The trailer looked pretty cool...

Spoiler alert, this video is better than the entire sequel trilogy.

@MisterYuck excited to start this one!

Planning on putting that free year of Disney+ with my Verizon plan to work.

I was gonna wait for the whole series to come out, then my wife found out we can get a year of Disney+ for free, as part of some Verizon promo! The series is doing something that none of the prequels/sequels have really done so far, which is tapping into that retro fantasy feeling. This feels like a contemporary to the original trilogy, instead of a retcon or a pale imitation. That being said, I’m hoping Favreau is going to pull some fun stuff from the “legends” and make it canon again. My only complaints so far are that some of the effects look too shiny & CG.

I enjoyed it for the most part, I am a huge fan of the old Karen Traviss EU novels dealing with Mandalorians. So there were parts that made me giddy to see; but that last minute or so has threatened to
Ruin it all for me. If there was one thing in The Star Wars universe I didn’t need revealed/explained it is *that*. I hope John Favreau can walk the tightrope he set up for himself by choosing to go with *that* without falling into another eye-rolling-ly bad narrative choice for the SW franchise.

@Smotemotem, I agree that some of the effects from earlier in the episode weren't all that great-looking, but the quality and length of the the final action sequence was top-notch. I think that's where most of the money was spent.

Regarding *that*, I think it was a very shrewd move by Disney to build it into the story. Not only does it add something the main character's story needs, It's going to spoil quickly. It will spur people who were on the fence about subscribing to do so.

I also wouldn't be surprised if *that* ties into Episode 9 somehow.

I'm still not sure what to think about *that*. I wonder if *that* is just a random *that*, or if *that* is the *that* of the other *that*. I'm leaning toward random. KOTOR had *that* and even though it's a 100% stand-in for *that* which we are already familiar with, I don't believe *that* from KOTOR was directly related to *that* from the original trilogy.

I really enjoyed the pacing in that first ep. When I was a kid and Star Wars first came out, the grown ups said it was a Space Western. I had seen westerns, and Star Wars did not seem very western-y to me. Still don't. That first ep of the Mandolorian seemed very much like a western. Felt good to me.

Oh, and when Brian Posehn showed up I just about shit a brick laughing. I love his Nerd Poker podcast.

    I don’t know how I feel about the cameos yet. It’s a bit immersion-breaking.

Don't want to get spoiled, so I really do appreciate folks not dropping any bombs here thus far. I am tentative in saying so, and I really want to curb my enthusiasm, but I am very excited to see what Mandalorian can do, in terms of really hitting that classic massive science fantasy world building of the expansive domain which Star Wars always seemed to be about. I know everyone shits on it incessantly nowadays, as it has become the hip thing to do, but I goddamned loved the EU when it was around (not that it has gone anywhere for me). Yes, there were a small galaxy one or two duds in there, but hey, that is what made it interesting, that expansive creativity where your mind (and authors, etc.) was free to play and imagine all the things the SW world could encompass. This ability and artistic freedom is precisely what allowed the span that caused there to be some missed alongside with some truly great hits; and on a personal level you were free to choose to accept or reject any aspects of it that you chose to. The control over all things SW, and this shoehorning of 'canon' into every aspect has been stifling, annoying, and has just in the end made the whole SW universe seem so small - which is completely contrary, in my mind, to what the OT was all about. And for all that, you have to also remember, which many younger and modern generation fans can't quite imagine, is how desperate and happy fans were to have any Star Wars material to digest in those 'dark years.' I relished the EU surge that came in the wake of the Thrawn trilogy, because, what the hell, it was Star Wars again, man!! :D

Anyways, I don't want to get into a long rant on Star Wars, it's obviously something I have been passionate about my entire life. The main point is there is new Star Wars, hopefully sufficiently different from the 'existing' movie vein, and a fairly reputable dude + fan at the helm. This seems like a good thing.

Now, if only I could figure out some easy way to view it.

PS to the above. Before anyone jumps in with comments pertaining to if you want content, then pay for it, Disney+ is not launching in the UK and Europe until March 31, a full six months behind the US. As idiotic a decision as this seems to be, it also makes no sense to me from a business point of view. People who want to view these shows will have to source other means, e.g. most likely through less-than-legal channels, and the company therefore is losing a potential revenue stream. Much like how HBO content was basically non-viewable to a large portion of the world, this is exactly the sort of thing that lead to GoT being the most pirated show in history (soon to be supplanted?). I admit as a Star Wars nerd I don't exactly expect to feel the same excitement six months from now after hearing everything that has happened in the plot of this show. :?

So, umm, yeah, would like to see The Mandalorian.

Seen and enjoyed. Even as it does feel like a scientific formulation of Star Wars-iness, designed with utter, canny precision to push our buttons... who cares, it's still fun. Life's short, enjoy your Trandoshans where you can get 'em.

My theory about that ending. (Keep in mind my theories are wrong 90% of the time.)

It's been implied that Yoda/Yaddle's species is special in some way, and that they have some connection to the Force that other life forms don't. Some have speculated that these little things are the "Whills." If this little yodaling is 50 years old, that would make it around the same age as Anakin (if he had survived ROTJ). Maybe one of these is born whenever a vergence in the force occurs?

I would prefer if Force-related stuff was totally absent from this show but maybe that's where they're going with this. Maybe it even ties in to Episode 9 in some way.

Someone on Reddit also pointed out that Dr. Pershing has a patch on his sleeve that resembles the one the Jango clones wore on Kamino. Maybe they want to clone the little guy. Or maybe he is a clone.

And is that crib floating by mechanical means (like a landspeeder), or is greenbaby making it levitate?

If the yodababy will be a central part of the show and not just shuffled off somewhere, I think it's a good storytelling choice. The Mandalorian never takes off his helmet so the writers have to humanize him through his actions. Having him care for a baby accomplishes this.
