It's that time of the year... let's see those drips from 2019! I've got two sets of 5... 'New Releases' and 'Older Releases' that I've picked up this past year: 2019 Releases: View this post on Instagram View this post on Instagram View this post on Instagram View this post on Instagram View this post on Instagram Older Sofvi Bought in 2019: View this post on Instagram View this post on Instagram View this post on Instagram View this post on Instagram View this post on Instagram
To each their own, but these threads always feel like a pissing contest to me . . . and I'm just happy still being around to piss!
Think they easily can be, but making a full post of hype toys reflects more on the collector than the format. I find instagram top 9 to be more of a pissing contest, since the stuff drawing the most likes tends to be fancier. I didn't think my top 9 reflected my year properly, so I didn't post it.
I was waiting on a few more things to come in, but I don't think I'll have them before the end of the year. I started collecting late into the year, so I don't have many to pick from. Here are my favorites, so far! Bandai/Bullmark Anguirus Medicom/Bullmark/M1GO Ghidorah Konatsu Shibara & Negora Gargamel Toxic Conifas
HERE COMES THE PISS! View this post on Instagram #5 Burger by Amapro AKA Balger. Been wanting one for a while. Finally purchased through Lulubell. Come with mini fries, drink, and tray too! I just love this goofy looking burger monster. View this post on Instagram #4 Ushi Oni by Cereal Box Toys Haven't seen an Ushi Oni sofubi before and I feel this one is really well executed. I grabbed a blank glow at DCon. Great sculpt but is a major shelf hog. Photo stolen from Cereal Box Toys since I don't have a good pic. View this post on Instagram Pretty much everything in this picture but especially #4 Couch the Sofubi Sofa by Neil Ewing and #3 Bog Dweller by BogxSquad X MVH. These were both part of my Five Points haul. The Splurrt lab rat fink is great too though... View this post on Instagram #1 Escaregot I nearly shit my britches when I waddled past the Super7 booth at DCon and saw a BRAND NEW Escaregot version. Escaregot started it all for me and will always be my favorite toy so having a new release is MAJOR. Honorable Mentions: Everything Fig-Lab Re:Boot, especially Zipperhead by PK and Kaijin Namazu (Wanted) by Science Patrol. Bwana's new smaller scale Suns of Brodarr! Chibi Godzilla bank that I snagged at NYCC. Watermelon Sludgie.
I like the new/old releases format, so excuse twice the number of pictures. New Secret Base Astro Boy #3 "Vintage version" Classic, ambitious, perfectly executed. He's imposing on the shelf but still simple and sturdy enough to play with, and one of the few toys above the $300 mark where I think the sticker price is entirely justified regardless of market changes. Owltoy Otus, Five Points 2019 paint Utterly weird, with an unusual choice of base vinyl and paint that strongly reminds me of pulp scifi comics. Excited to see what Owltoy has planned for next year. Yoiko Omocha Odd-Eyed Super Yankee, 2nd release Nasty-cute little king from a maker decidedly doing his own thing. The overall theme is unique, and Yoiko has shown impressive attention to detail in the toy and its extras. I think elements like the short manga included and the little shaker beads inside the toy distinguish it from the most obvious inspiration in Ilu Ilu/Uzumark as well. Bwana Peanut Killer handpaint Perfect size, texture that's half hammered metal and half wrinkly amphibian, paint to die for. Pocket toy of the year. Cojica Ankeron, first release Rambled enough about this one elsewhere. Perfect toy, get you one! Spoiler: Oldies Old Miura dino - shout out to @xSuicide Squadx for showcasing the pitted texture on this so beautifully I had to find one Tosa Kenta - jointed legs, can nap and piss wherever he pleases! Gorz - strong contender for my favourite Ilu Ilu sculpt, received from a fine friend I hope to see come back to the boards soon. Skullwing/Hevi Ghost kit Pheyaosman - the first RxH toy I saw and wanted, about five years ago now. Thanks to the collector who put my long search to rest.
Booska! Didn't find the Marusan 450 blue glow this year, but got to finally score a painted marugacha. T9G...this piece I've wanted for years and it just popped up at a great price brand new. I don't collect T9G like I used to, but there are pieces that I'm crazy about. Great weird style. Too lazy to take pics of others--but the rxh chaos is more about how I was able to respark my focus this year in a meaningful way. Giant Kumon. That is all. I got into super robots more this year after I finally completed my GGG. Great year.
I limit myself to toys that are new to 2019 or toys I haven't owned a version of before 2019. This helps me limit my option a bit more, I get to feature some new toys that I'm currently admiring. This year I'm a bit all over the place with my top 5. Individual pics, with makers tagged on my IG.
Cojica Ankeron is gorgeous!!! I hope they continue releasing this sculpt, I’d love to nab one. Wish I could share too, but I didn’t buy anything in 2019!
