Been 10 days for me. I have plenty to do (almost overwhelming amounts) and nowhere to really be now that CB is postponed. (Not that I would actually hit a skate rink if it was open like people did last week. NUTS)
The lady is teaching from home which is a relief.
About the only "real" worry aside from human madness and the news is food and variety as I'm the cook. I managed to get in a slew of orders off Amazon before the gridlock (slowness). Don't skimp on some dried food like beans and stuff if you see it (Pasta has been VERY rare here) . Dried anything that can be thrown in a crock pot full of simmering water and spices so I don't have to run to the store 2 days a week keeps us happy. I'm truly vegan now.

First of all, I fully acknowledge this falls under the category of first world problems. But one of the incredibly frustrating things over the past week - I mean, aside from going to a dozen shops to try and find basic groceries and being faced with nothing but empty shelves - is that my internet provider has decided to completely crap out. I am talking zero service for more of the day than there is any, and this occurring every day - suggesting it is not just a technical fault they are working to resolve. While they is understandably higher network demands right now, I have not heard any others suffering this issue, which leads me to believe it is something very much that they are doing. At the same time I have not received a single notice or explanation as to why this is occurring. And, of course, this is a company that has no customer support email. I fully recognise this is moaning about something which is a luxury to have, but frankly we live in a society now where regular access to the internet is a common service. I don't have a cell phone, and so this ability is key to me. Particularly now, as we are going to be forced to stay home, and conduct all business remotely, there is no way that most people - anyone who can work from home - can really do so without access to the internet. Never mind for sanity reasons, if this sort of thing does not get sorted out, I'll have to be giving some hard explanations or be forced to make trips back into the office.

First confirmed case in my hometown here in CT. Thats frightening.
I no longer live in said town, I live a few towns over now.
But my ex and child live in said town. She works at a daycare and has been laid off until further notice. They are saying people can be out of work for 3 months if not longer.
I also live with my 81 year old grandmother and 88 year old grandfather (I am their caretaker) and have been getting more and more paranoid about them being exposed to this, especially from other family members as somebody is stopping by almost daily and do not heed my warnings. They are both in poor health as it is- my grandmother can not walk and my grandfather has suffered multiple heart attacks and has a pacemaker. It takes more than just "hand washing" to keep the virus at bay, especially around anyone between the ages of 55 (if in poor health) and undoubtedly those that are 70+. Newborns and very young children can also be at risk. The virus will not kill any able-bodied, healthy child or adult but please be cautious if you are around young children, elderly acquaintances, friends, and family!

I'd say it's time for you to get a cell phone. You can tether it to your computer when the internet goes out.

It kinda feels like a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders knowing that my toy collections are pretty much worthless for the next 6 months or so. I have them with no possibility of selling any off, I definitely won't be buying any more, and I can just enjoy what I have sitting at home.

I've hit that same state of Zen with life in general!

This is the first time in 10 years I have no clients chasing work, nowhere else to be and no real need to leave the house/yard.

As an anti social recluse . . . it's bliss!

I've been "joking" about how I finally have a socially acceptable, even NOBLE reason not to leave the house! Welcome to my world, b*tches. Still enjoying and buying toys though - just scored the marbled Star Toys set hours after it was posted, so I feel it's actually a great time to buy dollies!

I've been in this position for a while pretty much, and its interesting. When you're not constantly chasing the next big score, appreciation for what you already have on your shelves deepens.

. . . given all the shite that people are making and the crappiest sterling vs dollar exchange rate in 25 years, I’d say we’ll be in that same position for quite awhile eh?

Good time to sell though! :?

My cousin and I have decided to go around the elderly community here and drop off soap, paper towels, soup, and bread (when we can find enough!) on the porches of some of the people that live here. A lot of them are living alone, don't have families that are close by, or they are just legitimate shut-ins before this whole thing even started.
I've done my good deed for the year, heres hoping this insanity stays away!
Anyway, my point being- if any of you have an elderly neighbor or someone with a disability that you know can't get out and doesn't have much of anyone to help them, please try and do what you can. Even a little goes a long way!
Seems like things are getting worse here in the US and with the constant changes in information about the virus, its just a total brain blast. Frightening stuff.

My brother's wife has gone on Facebook and declared to the whole world that he has the corona virus but he swears he doesn't have it. He says its just a standard cold and he hasn't had any of the main symptoms (persistent cough, fever etc). She messaged me with a short message last night: Frank's got the virus...sure he'll be fine. Take care x.

My brother then texted me in the morning saying he's not that bad - he just has a heavy cold (he's pretty sure) but his wife is convinced he has the virus. so, now my elderly mother is all worried about him and shit ... thanks for that you dozy cow.

Not. Fucking. Helpful. The bollocks she's banging on about on Facebook is pretty pathetic too, telling everyone what they should and shouldn't be doing. I swear she's acting like this is the best thing thats happened to her in years. She hates her job, so is probably overjoyed to not have to go to work ...

Yesterday evening the internet went out in our area for a short period of time. Didn't last long, was just some sort of normal hiccup. But after a few minutes I thought, if they don't get it working soon the shit is going to hit the fan. With all of the kids at home, people tethered to their devices not being able to go out, (as Andy put it to me in a dm) the Purge is happening. Luckily for humanity, everyone could access Tiktok again and cute cat videos. It was close. Unless you are in my area you don't know how close humanity just came to becoming extinct.

I have ONE child in my home. It's already challenging to keep her occupied. I am about to resort to getting a 1000 piece puzzle for her to keep her entertained. Kudos to the ones with multiple kids in the house I feel ya.

Its times like this I'm glad I'm an avid reader. Books don't need the internet or batteries. As long as you've got a chair and a light to see the pages, you're all set.

That's actually the age group I rely on when I can't figure tech shit out. Anyone over the age of 11 is not qualified to school anyone else on tech issues. Need to figure out your updated OS, take it to a 5 year old. These developmental milestones are crazy nowadays

@Nate shoot me your addy and I'll send you some puzzles. We're blowing through them over here

Well, the UK has officially entered a 'lockdown' status.... unless you happen to work at Sports Direct I guess? We've received the message to slow down/cease operations in our development centre (prudently, to reduce risk to patients and staff in the building), while we will continue to support the manufacture of important therapies. Not sure how the next few weeks, or months, will play out, as we never had access to grocery restocks following the initial wave of panic-buying.

Time to start thinking about doing some vintage toy baths, and maybe figure out a way to get some photos out there somehow. Stay safe and take care of yourselves and family.
