Yeah, I think these are made from similar plastic, but sturdier than the blow molded jumbos, and also smaller. Pretty sure the head those is soft vinyl? I think they are pretty rare, but don't really know much about them, and have never had the chance to see one in person (I'd love to see the missile firing action from the chest). The jet pack scrander sure looks like it would be fun, too. Maybe one of the heavy robot collectors can add something (if any of 'em are still kickin' it in the shadows)? @Sanjeev @nekrodave @diceone

At first I thought what a Jumbo Machinder, because it has the same missile launch performance, but the figure itself is smaller in size. If you look at the scrander it has a propeller where the turbines go and on the top spoiler it has a small hole, so I can infer that it is one of those figures that used to hold them with a string to the ceiling and they flew in circles. The flaying Mazinga!

Was trying for this guy yesterday, but last minute bidding pushed him far out of my reach on this occasion. And here I thought, with the low price right up to just before the end (6500円), this guy was going to go unnoticed. Really so hard to add any of the clear/cyborg guys these days, even in a relatively poor state.

Bullmark clear Ultraman Ace large size, ended at 30.5k yen:

Definitely a dream toy for me! I’ve always thought, however, that the base vinyl was grey. It kind of looks as if this one has flesh vinyl under grey paint, which would make it even more similar to the M1 HMV 2003 exclusive that I own.

The M1 flesh version is, probably, one of the coolest and best toys I own from any modern-era line. Yuji did such an amazing job recreating this iconic toy, and in a way that almost brings it to a whole new level (I just adore that hidden flesh base). In terms of the Bullmark original, the vinyl is sort of a light off-grey, and I think maybe the contrast with the darker grey sprays is giving it that look. So, at least as far as I know - though we've recently had this discussion on another vintage piece, so excellent callout there, Rei - it is not painted all over in the light grey as a 'base.' But the numbers on these are so little, with even the actual release details being under a bit of cloud, and there is also the possibility of repaints (esp. on the 80s kits and bootlegs), so it is quite possible that some odd flesh versions have popped up in the past.

I will never get the point to have a flesh vinyl figure painted almost fully in grey...
Does it somehow highlights details of the figure? :?:

No, but it allows collectors to easily determine a reissue from a vintage original to avoid counterfeit sales. There is no additional M1GO or modern engraving on the sculpt. It also displays the color matching and paint skills of the artist in this specific case. A more interesting comparison would be the color of the vintage Bullmark vinyl to the 1992 Bandai reissue, which has also been known to be repainted and attempted to be sold as the original vintage Bullmark.

Was anyone here playing in for this guy? I would have loved to, had I the funds on hand to do so. I know, he's got some damage; the horn obviously, but also the fingers and nose being a bit wratched from play. Still and all though, I love these Pharaohs. They are always pricey, but not without reason in my reckoning. The Marusan originals are all wonderful, and this guy's aesthetic is just so great. A beauty of a toy and one I would be honoured one day just to hold for a few minutes.*

    * so um, yeah, if anyone here did win this guy..... ^_^

Marusan giant size Pharaoh/Ultra Saturn (ウルトラサターン), 33cm from 1971, ended appropriately enough at 71k yen :)

@ultrakaiju Thanks for sharing the auction Steve, I was also following this auction, because I was curious to see how much it ended, for being a rare figure I assumed that it would not go cheap. But curiously today I woke up thinking that if it was worth paying a high price for a rare figure even though it is in very bad condition, figures with cuts on the vinyl, with no limbs or severe cuts and scrapped by friction. My question is does it really satisfy you as collector pay $1,000 USD, $6,000 USD, $20,000 USD or even more for a broken figure, strange as it may be? Not for me, but that is my opinion I would like to know what you all vintage collectors thinks.

I am happy with an example, as long as it’s not terrible looking, I would rather pay less for a damaged one. I still wouldn’t have spent $400 on that, but $250

oh, I think you were talking about the pharaoh.... my mind was on the Hawaiian kg

It’s a matter of taste, no? Depends on where “character marks” stop being an attractive feature and become “damage” for a collector. I suspect, if I was more of a vintage collector, I might be cool with a more worn piece, because it would fit better in a collection where things are more beautiful because of their imperfections. In my collection there are a few very “worn” examples, which I keep for their sentimental value. But to spend a lot on a “new” vintage piece, for me the wear must be moderate.

Nice to see one of these Ninja Arashi Majin Sai [魔神斎] figures available with the weapon, hard to come by complete these days. Under different circumstances I'd consider upgrading for the accessory. Also, a somewhat common occurrence is for these dudes to have had a 'haircut' at some point through their lives, whether that is to remove split ends damage or just ambitious children. This guy looks mostly to have his original length 'mane' but similarly along the back has suffered a bit of a trim. :) Not bad really though for this price, and he seems to have tight limbs, too.

It is a very good specimen Steve, it is very rare to see these Ninja Arashi villains with their weapons these days. I think that my maximum bet was 23,500 yen so I fell a little short, as you mention Steve my idea was also to upgrade my own Majin Sai, but I have noticed that most of these figures that have come out lately, at some point in their playing life somebody cut it the hair, but this Majin Sai in general has very good paint and vinyl condition, for me the weapon was already a plus.

Yeah, same Roger. I think if I had the funds, it would be tempting to have gone in for this guy. It;s like you've said, more and more of the ones which seem to be coming to the market recently have had the hair cut; I am not sure if most of the better specimens are now just in collector hands for the most part. He is good condition, and at least still has some of his full length locks, from the front displays fine. The weapon makes it nearly the perfect package. But yeah, situation as it is now, plus having a 'beater' version, I had to wait it out.

Wow that is a great price for this figure!!!!! I didn't see it, that looks great for a good price, but then again i was drooling over a ultra father cyborg that sold for more than I could afford. Thanks @ultrakaiju for the post.

I saw it, figured it would go for way more and I was really sad when I woke up and saw the end result. Still pretty bummed about it

So it seems I'll be fighting quite a few of you then for that accessory version! (I keed, I keed  ) Here is another auction I thought was going to go way higher, and yet only a single person bid! I was utterly shocked. The figure itself is not rare, but these Redman guys have been steadily climbing, along with a lot of other heroes, the past few years, and even loose versions can now approach this price. :| But this 'sealed' example looks minty fresh. Honestly the only reason I didn't throw in a bid was a combination of the current situation and the fact that I would just have to open this guy (sacrilege to man, I know!). So, full disclosure, he doesn't have the sword, but speaking to the seller this was as he bought it decades ago from a shop. It could be a reseal, have fallen out, or even a mistake where it didn't have one. But even if you consider this as a 'loose' Bullmark Redman, in great condition, with the packaging, the price is stellar. Personally, I think someone got an amazing buy here. I sort of wish I had bid. As I said though, I had no idea this was going to end like this, and I suspect it just went unnoticed. If this pops up for sale again elsewhere, I'll be disappointed. 1 BID!!!!!! Ahh, toy regret. We've all been there.....

Bullmark removable mask Redman figure, in original packaging, ended at 26k yen

    * danggit, the rest of the photos were pulled, sorry guys and gals (why did I refresh the page??!)

The low selling price on the bagged Redman auction might have to do with the fact that the figure was re-issued within the past 2-3 years since re-issues often absorb some of the demand for the original vintage figures. The missing sword also likely cut into the appeal to and price paid by the segment of collectors who are willing to pay a premium for deadstock bagged vinyls.

I am actually a little surprised this one did not end up higher actually. I cannot have enough Zazahn in my life for some reason, but the appearance of this guy was ill-timed for me. But seeing him complete and still sealed in his original Jack packaging was a genuine treat for me, even if I wasn't able to get in on the bidding. A wonderful header and the bag looks really clear, too; a nice treat after all these years. I reckon someone got a good price here.

Bullmark Zazahn in sealed packaging with insert, ended at 46k yen

A really decent lot of toys for a good price sold recently. Looks expensive, but if you had the money on hand (I don't) then the price per figure on this grouping actually snags you some nice buys. I was really interested in the Bullmark Hedorah and the Zazahn puppet, but you'd also get some decent lot of Toho monsters there (Viras, Baragon, Gezora, and Ganime), a nice Captain Ultra figure in Garuban, and Eledortus for a Return of Ultraman contingent. A sadly broken Huck toy rounds out the lot. So, not super amazing for rare toys, but actually in my opinion a decent amount of fun to be had from these adoptions.

Lot of Bullmark randoms, having some love, ended at 83k

Not a special share this time, but a personal one. This is one of those toys I have hunted since the first time I ever discovered it existed. I was setting aside a lot the last while to see if I could make this happen, but alas the timing and current situation just pushed it beyond my reach. I was right in there until the end (but who knows what the competition would have bid up to). In the end though I had to pull out, to make sure things didn't go poorly this month. A shame too, because I would have paid the end price too, situations being different. I have always been an advocate of, when something special you have spent years hunting, of going that extra mile, as much as possible, because you don't know when the occasion will come again. From a toy collecting standpoint, and being in this for the long game, sometimes overspending for an opportunity is a necessity; I think most vintage collectors have faced this conundrum. But, alas, there is a simple physical barrier as well. This is a tough one to lose. I was hoping that with the markings on this fella (having writing on both his legs) he would have stayed cheaper and I would have had a shot. Wasn't meant to be this round. I would have accepted his condition though all the same, that is how much I love this dude. That silvering on this example is just outstanding as well. As my avatar suggests, a figure dear to my heart. If only I had a time machine, this price was quite nice. Ah grumpy Gary, how you continue to elude me!!

*why oh why did I not just bid more??!! Gah, I am such an idiot

Marusan original 'Garugon' pachi Garamon figure, ended at 25k yen

    I regret everything.
